Welcome to the Daomu Biji series guys lmfao this author is just like this: very good at characters building and their angsty, full of soul relationships, but if you want a linear & logical plot or world building, give up and turn away cause this man never finished to write/explain any book properly 😂

Ironic how until now Hai Xia always had been Hai Lou's "safety belt" but from this point onwards their roles will probably switch and Hai Lou will need to be the one reminding Hai Xia of his humanity.

The only real connection you'll probably encounter here is the Zhang Family, but the relevant parts will be talked about in the drama so you should be able to follow without problems.

Maybe, at the very end you'll see some characters that are part the main story, but only because this novel is "narrated" by Wu Xie (protagonist in the main story) and they likely will have no impact on the plot whatsoever.

It is part of a bigger universe (Daomu Biji novels), but you can totally watch it as a stand alone since it set a lot years prior the original storyline.

I mean, Hai Lou was "shipped off" to some places nobody wanted to go since the beginning (and Hai Xia got beaten up as punishment by their Master so just he could follow Hai Lou since he was worried about them being separated for so long).

Not only Hai Lou has no Zhang's tattoos so he's not considered part of the family (at least that was people told me), but his Master also sees him as the lowest ranking official in the Archives.
Our guy was also kept in the dark about everything regarding the Archives and the shady things that were going on. And I get it, Hai Lou is reckless as hell so maybe it was a form of "damage control" but still (and protection I guess, in Hai Xia's eyes).

I mean, they didn't even tell him about the fake-death thing?? Like, was he supposed to just go off and actually die if he ever faced a no-way-out situation? 😭

Everytime I remeber Hai Xia is the older one between the two of them, my heart breaks a little more because it is shown in the little things, how Hai Xia is effectively the only one who ever indulged Hai Lou's antics and always looked out for him no matter what (while everyone else kind of treated Hai Lou has a replaceable pawn at best).

I mean, I'd understand if he became loyal to her due her saving him before (plus ye li is smart, as a servant I'd follow her too dhdh), but I'd be so disappointed if he get a crush for her 😭

Is Zhang Xie Cheng being dubbed by any chance? I somewhat remembered his voice differently from Justice in the Dark; or maybe he's just good at changing it depending on his characters lol.

This man has the weird capability to end up being my favorite character in every drama he's in.
I'm not even searching him up voluntarily, like, I only watched three dramas he was in by pure chance and promptly stole my heart in every one of them.

Noooo why did they dub Yiran, his natural voice would have suit the character a lot better 😭

I though it was it at him first because who else could have throw the arrow?? But then they didn't show him so I was left wondering if I was wrong.

(also bc I really don't see the point in ZZ activating a mechanism to kill Prince Xiangyang when he could have just stabbed him with his sword. Unless he was trying to make sure there was no evidence of him murdering the prince so the court can't persecute him, but for a dying man I'm not sure it really matters?)

I agree that probably BYT was supposed to die there, but yeah I got they were both alive once the "two men" appeared at Linglong door dhdh since those were the names they used at first.

I just wish they gave us a little more explanations (how BYT managed to survive, did they were able to cure ZZ poison?), but I read they had to cut from 40 to 37 episodes, so maybe the extra scenes are there (wishing they could give them to us as extra eps lol).
Still loved this drama to fault and I wouldn't mind having a season 2 😂
