Once a man untouched by desire, Mei Zhuyu begins to unravel after meeting Wu Zhen. His growing love for her clashes with the strict teachings of Changxi Palace, which forbid romantic attachment. What follows is a quiet storm of inner conflict—a battle between duty and longing.
In Episode 12, he finds Wu Zhen and clearly wants to speak his heart, but holds back. She senses his hesitation, grows frustrated, and tells him she has plans with another man. Mei Zhuyu simply replies, “Come back early,” watching her leave without revealing what he truly feels.
By Episode 14, the tension peaks. He leans in, ready to kiss her—but again, he restrains himself. Wu Zhen, now in love with him too, is left aching and confused by his silence.
Nothing seems to faze Mei Zhuyu—he's calm, cool, collected, and always in control, even when the woman he just wanted to kiss is frustrated, tells him off and walks away.
i dont think the rating is bias. for novel reader, this drama failed to show Mei Zhu Yu strong character like…
i found his character in the novel to be calm, respectful, quiet, just like the one in the drama. I remembered he went to work and people won't talk to him because he doesn't' talk to anyone but one day he asked someone what kind of food is good for pregnant woman and it shocked his coworker that he talked to them, so every day he go home to feed his wife and the wife really don't like the food but ate it . At work, people heard about it and soon everyone telling him what to feed pregnant woman and eventually Mei Zhuyu become more sociable. I see the same Mei Zhuyu portrayed int the novel the way he pampered his wife and initially shy, but they just don't show those funny moments.
Somebody was saying it was the work of Esther yu and her team because her father corruption case has occured and…
I'm concern that people come here to learn about the drama may get turn off if they see discussions about ratings and rumors. How does anyone know the "truth." My opinion is the girl is nuts.
Mei Zhuyu staying at Duke’s mansion is the best episodes ever. He is so gentle, calm, honest and little flirty…
he's portraying the Mei Zhuyu in the novel, calm, obedient, polite, fawning over her, red carpet treatment every day every moment but Mei Zhuyu also became quite passionate once he started to live with her. so many cute and funny moments in the novel of their life together. the novel is much more light hearted.
MR reached to 100 millions views after its 3rd day, it can't be a flop. Also, this morning Yunhe results show MR…
Based on Vlinkage, MR is more popular. In the same time period, 8/18 to 8/21, WDBTD garnered 327 points against MR 334 points. However, if we compare the first four days which is fairer comparison since the first day is usually lower, WDBTD garnered only 306 points against MR 334 points.
i read a few parts of the novel as I was curious but they found out each other's identity in the novel after they…
maybe the soft Mei Zhuyu has a ruthless side? In the novel, he has no ties to the temple but in the drama, he still does, and sect used to hunt down and ruthlessly kill demons. I doubt Mei Zhuyu is like that, I wonder if he's maybe the head of this sect, although there is mention of a Master there. Does he have another identity?
this is so funny considering we have more than a half of drama left lol wait for his arc
there was a pretty intense fighting scene where he ruthlessly killed a demon. she was even willing to tell him Wu Zhen's identity, but he said you can take it with you to your death, then poof she's gone like the Wicked Witch of the West, instead of melting, she went up in smoke
The whole storyline behind him being a Daoist Master is poorly written I mean the princess is literally the one…
The Demon City is under the jurisdiction of Cat Lord and Snake Lord; they keep bad demons from wreaking havoc on the humans. Demons are not allowed in Demon City without the seal of Cat Lord and Snake Lord. Mei Zhuyu hasn't even discovered the Demon City yet. In one scene, he said he heard it exists. He grew up and cultivated in Changxi Palace (sect) which once sought to outright eliminate all demons but is no longer active. He works for the Bureau of Mystic Investigations (imperial department) investigating demons and spirits, but he also has personal vendetta against demons. But what he does and what she does are separate as of now, they're not joined forces. He can sense demons and see supernatural except same as in the novel, he could not detect her demon in the cat. So, it's not like he can help her, they're in different realms and if he knew her identity, they would clash. I don't think she's connected him to Changxi Palace yet. By day, she has a lot of power over the county, she's the country princess, so she has power over Bureau he works for. By night, she's Demon lord. He got a job in the bureau so he can discover the truth of his parent's death. Initially, he's a low level or fifth rank official. Later, he became the top guy there. The evil rat demon caused a lot of problems before she stripped him of his powers. Now her second in command is going rogue on her. Soon Mei Zhuyu will discover her identify and the Demon City. First, they will collide, eventually they will join forces. What makes the story compelling is how they fell in love only to have to turn against each other later. These two are blinded by love because as powerful as they are, they could not detect each other's identities, even living together. How does this journey change Mei, he is the ultimate upright Taoist, forbidden to fall in love. He is a son whose parents were brutally burned in a fire caused by demons, only to discover his love is a demon tied to their demise. Her becoming Cat Lord and his parents fire is mysteriously intertwined and at the heart of their conflict.
This director is so good at humor and comedy.
Xu Kai deadpan comedy.

It’s a slow burn of emotional tension
There are many sides to Mei Zhuyu.
he doesn't engage in physical combat though, he uses his hands these powerful talismans
MZY had no desires before until he met Wu Zhen
