I've listened to Xu Kai interviews. His focus does not seem to be on popularity. He talks about working hard, step by step, focus on his acting, and wanting to be remembered by his characters.

Xu Kai is actually not that popular in China, relatively speaking. A while back, I saw a video of the top 20 actors (term actors incl. actresses) in terms of online searches in China and Xu Kai's name was not even on the list. However, among Chinese actors, Xu Kai is very popular overseas due to FIYS has made him iconic. FIYS continues to this day to be a top drama overseas. I came across a ranking had Xu Kai #3 most popular overseas actor. #1 was Xiao Zhan #2 was Wang Yibo (prob. due to insanely popular The Untamed), but XK was like #25, or something like that, in China. With BCE, more Chinese netizens discover Xu Kai.

I think it should hit 28,000 tomorrow. This is fantastic. Most dramas peak in the first week but this one just keeps trending up, except on 7/10 was flat, and 7/13 down. It's so steady. It means viewers are invested in this story.

They say but we watch modern dramas, why have we never seen this actor before? How did he go under our radar? I think during BCE airing, XK was either the most or second most actor who got more followers.

I'm always fascinate why people who have seen XK dramas before are only now finding him interesting. For me, the vibes he gives off in this drama has always been there in all his dramas. ALP, Royal Feast which no one ever talks about is one of his best performances to me, but you have to know what the character's personality is supposed to be like, and this was a real-life character in history been written about his interests, his nature. His acting is so subtle but so powerful.
