its' interesting the vibes people get from Chinese Paladin dramas. In CP4, someone commented that they felt a Jane and Tarzan vibe. I actually think that acting required for Chinese Paladin dramas are complex. The actor has to portray a personality that gives a children's story vibe yet still maintain level of adult emotions.

well it depends on the game. this drama is following the gameplay.

The Chinese government and/or Chinese viewers are very picky about the Mandarin. Most people have some sort of accent depending on where you grew up in China, so it's up the actors to get rid of any accents they have, if they want to use their own voice.

the numbering are not continuation of the same game but Sword and Fairy is a series of games, each number is a new game, new story, different characters. You dont' even have to play game 1 before game 6. You can play any game in any order.

I don't think you can even find CP1 and CP3 to watch! I found CP1 on You tube but the English dubbing is horrible! It's not subtitles but actually in English speaking and just horrible to listen to, but the acting and special effects (19 yrs ago) are amazing, and Hu Ge is an exceptional and very charming actor on a totally different level. I actually prefer the special effects done 19 yrs ago with real things to today's CGI which can look so phony.

I watched two episodes of CP4 and I think it's a good production too. The male actor is quite a good actor too and portray his character very well. But the two dramas have different feel and style to it, both are good.

she's supposed to be cute and childish. I found a video of the game and watched a little bit. I'm only on episode 1 but the drama seems to be following the game closely in story and characters mannerisms like how he talks to her and treats her, pulling her cheeks, etc. The fighting scene in ep 1 almost looks exactly like watching the game the way they choreographed it.

My perception of her character is that she's actually quite smart. Jinzhao is extremely protective of her and not allowing her to grow up. I saw how he took her gold leaf for keepsake instead of letting her keep it herself. At first, I thought that is mean but then later I think he treats her like she needs to be helped all the time. He cares about her a lot, and they only have each other. When will he realized she's quite capable on her own. I loved her interaction with Mr. Meng who tried to scam her. She was really smart and asked all the right questions and did not trust him, in fact, she tricked them and was putting in stones not real money. I think she said it was Jinzhao who taught her how to play tricks on others.

I'm just starting to watch. Someone here already mentioned this. I noticed the Chinese characters of the title on screen are the characters Pray (one character) and Today (two characters). Therefore, the native title is Pray for the Present. The fl name is Pray and the ml name is Now or Today or Present whichever word is used in translation. Their names carry meaning behind the story? This is game 6 of the Chinese Paladin or The Legend of Sword and Fairy, so it makes more sense for the drama to refer to it as Sword and Fairy.

The Chinese characters of the title on screen for CP 4 are in this order: Fairy, Sword, 4. So that native title is actually Sword and Fairy 4.

I'm not familiar with Chinese fantasy. It took me a lot of work to fully appreciate ALP and once I did, I discover what a treasure it is. I'm sure it will be like that for this drama.

What triggered viewers to ask if the ml and fl are siblings? Is it because they have the same last name? Actually, she can't recall her name, so he let her use his last name.

Esther Yu is an exceptional performer.

this has to be the #1 question for Chinese Paladin dramas.

There are advantages to understanding the story and characters beforehand. My preference is to read it first.

Xu Kai used his own voice in SHPH. I think it was not even dubbed meaning it was recorded on the set during live filming, as opposed to dubbing their own voice after filming. His voice was soft and fit the character very well, but he does need to train his delivery and get rid of some accents (he grew up next to Hong Kong) or perfect his Mandarin, and he will get better with experience. Also, he was up against a Four Dan actress Yang Mi, 8 yrs his senior, which made him quite nervous because he said he didn't' want to mess her up. Personally, I think he did a great job with his voice acting of the lovable character, Yang Hua. The unfortunate thing is that audience don't realize what a great voice he has. In fact, when I watch his dramas, it sounds like him so much I forget it's not his own voice. I saw bts of WOL he is using his own voice on the set, and it sounds like the voice actor in the actual scene I watched. To me, it's distinctive handsome voice not what you normally hear. I'm looking forward to hear more of his voice in upcoming modern dramas in 2024, to see how he has improved. He's' not one who formally trained for acting or entertainment industry. From his first drama to now, he just learning on the job. He is a modest actor who still considers himself "baby actor" but clearly, he is more than that and has a lot of natural talent and unrealized potential and is loved by international fans because he has a way about him that has universal appeal.

Xu Kai can change his acting on the fly. In an interview, I think it was Jing Tian who made that comment that Xu Kai is really good at just changing his expressions instantly. I was surprised to hear that because I thought it is natural for actors to do that. Afterall, they are actors, but apparently some can do it easier than others.

I love every Xu Kai drama, but can this beat his portray of Li Ni? Also, I am hoping for ABAY to be his personal best 2024 drama because he doesn't do many modern dramas and using his own voice, so if he does really well there, it's more meaningful. In this drama, he's done these types of roles before, and I know he can do it well, and I enjoy his beauty, grace, charm, and fighting in these types of roles. But I haven't' watched CP6 yet and hope he excels again.

23k is not that high. below 26k is still only moderate. it has to reach over 28k to be consider high and over 30k to be very high?

I hope someday Xu Kai will get to the point he can use his own voice for costume dramas too. His voice is as good as the voice actor but maybe he hasn't had enough training and experience with the delivery.

BLH voice sounds so much like Xu Kai's voice. Maybe that's why when I used to watch ALP, I thought it was his own voice.
