Read the synopsis on WoL. Does the ml sound like someone who would be irresponsible like a "doormat"? People say a lot of things. Who knows what they mean by "clingy". Maybe having dinner with your partner every night is "clingy"? or having weekend getaways is "clingy", who knows what "clingy" means to someone.

The ml has never been loved by a mother who died giving birth to him, father who misunderstood and beat him, brothers who bullied him and blamed him for their misdeeds, grandfather banished him. He left the palace age of 13 and went to the army at the border. He found love of brotherhood there, these men are the only true family he knows. Then he falls in love with a girl and discover a happiness he never knew. He yearns to have a big happy family with her, the family he never had. He has no ambitions. He just wants to be a good husband and father and live a happy peaceful life, provide and protect them, teach his children, and spend all his time with his precious family.

I don't think you will enjoy WoL

if you were already offended by the comment "clingy", then you probably don't' want to watch WoL. He wants to be with her a lot.

I can't respond to something someone else said. If you have some examples I can clarify for you? I need to know why the comment thinks ML is a doormat.

Imo, the ml and fl prioritize their personal values over their love for each other.

What's wrong with wanting to be with someone you love, especially when that someone is your soul mate. How many people in this world are lucky enough to find their soul mate in life? In life, there is never enough time. Cherish every moment you can find for those you love. When your love one is gone (off to college, overseas, pass away, etc), then you wished they had "clinged" to you more or you "clinged" to them more.

Keep in mind, this love story is about first love, true love, only love, youthful love innocent love. Someone said Li Ni is only 19, although the actors are much older. Married couples and even unmarried couples, eventually most fall apart, I doubt that will happen to Li Ni and Cui Lin because of Li NI, he'll keep the fire going until death do them part, but that doesn't' mean Cui Lin loves him less. He's more passionate and romantic than she is. She is more guarded and doesn't show her true feelings as easily as he does.

It is called negative press, putting out an unfavorable narrative, can be influenced by bias, sensationalism, and misinformation much like the media. Criticism should be intelligent providing specific (examples), respectful, constructive, and balanced (strength and weakness).

After watching ep 31, I can understand why Li Ni needed to return to Laolan Pass. He left his heart there.

Bao is the true unsung hero of WoL because he was instrumental to shape Li Ni's life and turn him into the fierce and upright young man and hero he became; and Bao protected Li Ni to the very end. Bao was a great and wise man; otherwise, Li Ni would never have become the man he is. When Li Ni was forced to depart the palace at tender age of only thirteen, he was a total mess, always fighting with his brothers who were the true troublemakers but nevertheless, we saw childhood scenes of him always in a rage fighting back, getting beaten by this father, misunderstood, unloved, then rejected by the emperor. He must have been such a dejected, confused, and depressed young man when he joined the army. Bao became his father and mother, his best friend, his companion and brother, teacher, and his savior.

My heart is torn apart. We agreed that we'd go back to Zhao Village when the war is over, when we'd retired but they're all killed. Bao. He had fought so many years beside me and survive the risks, whether it was big or small. He usually said that heaven refuses to accept veterans like them. When I joined the army at thirteen, Bao taught me how to look for water in the desert; how to survive in dire situation; how to roast bugs for food; how to be a good scout. Cui Lin does have this personality that annoys some audiences, don't know if it's the character or the actress. Cui Lin is not the type of girl who fawn over a man no matter how sweet he is to her. She is independent and self-reliant, and never wanted to marry any man. So, she may seem indifferent towards Li Ni and uncaring by not fawning over him the same way he fawns over her. But deep down in her heart, she has fallen for him, but does not easily show her feelings. Li Ni told her that he felt happiness when he realized that she does love him and cares about him. No matter what she does to him or how she acts around him, or seem indifferent toward his advances, or teases him in a merciless way, he knows her heart and her true feelings for him and that is enough for him, and she also knows his heart and true feelings for her especially since he is excessively outwardly loving; unlike her, she plays cool, but because they know each other true feelings, they are already connected to each other in an unspoken way. In ep 31, when they got back together again, he said to her "when did you ever hug me? It is always me who hugs you". Outsiders may think she's not nice to him, but Li Ni understands her personality. Some audiences may not like it and I wonder if it's the character or the actress portrayal that offends some audiences.

I was thinking of the scene where General Cui Yi had just won some key battles for the empire and boldly suggested to the emperor in his report that Prince Qin deserves to be the crown prince. This disturbed Li Ni so much that he quickly went to Cui Lin and demanded that she hand back his mother's beads and then he returned her hair pin as well. I took that to be a misunderstanding because it was not Cui Lin but her father who did this to Li Ni even though it was her who been trying to convince him. She tried to retrieve the report, but it was too late. She understood her father did it on her behalf knowing she would not push LI Ni any further (which is why I don't agree with the audiences that keep saying Cui Lin manipulates Li Ni. I feel she has always respected his decision and let it be after they argue about it). So indirectly, she may be at fault, but I still regard it as a misunderstanding. I don't' fault Li Ni for jumping to conclusion, just like I don't fault him for misjudging Cui Lin for betraying his army. The situations are not easy to discern so it is understandable, and Li Ni will always figure it out once he calms down. Making him crown prince seems to be the ultimatum for him to break it off with Cui Lin because giving back her hair pin is not something he would ever do. I supposed in his heart, she's still at fault even if it was her father who brought it upon him.

I can't help but wonder how events would have unfolded if Li Ni hadn't been stopped from killing his older brother, Prince Xin.

I'm guessing Li Ni is 20 or 21 years old or early 20's? In episode 10, he says "Ying in the past 2 decades, I've never been happy and serene like I was this afternoon." In episode 31, he says he was sent to the border at age of 13, which means he been guarding the border with Bao for at least 7 yrs.
