not an easy watch but an illuminating aesthetic and feeling experience〜 not as I expected really a depiction of social attitudes in a homophobic society but an exploration of one man working out his psychological, emotional survival in that society, the fine line between love and hurt 、self-realization and self-disgust、 acceptance and rejection :who was it who said ”beauty can come out of a dunghill”。 beautiful imagery of nature and the eponymous palace in cinematography and sound ( Chinese opera ) 〜Si Han acted sensitively and convincingly it is interesting to note that gay love was an accepted part of civilization in China (as in Japan) for hundreds of years ironically persecuted in current supposedly humanitarian times is it really a decaying palace or a decaying society where love is driven into the night and memorials of a past cultured civilization ?
a good performance of this young actor (he actually looks the age of the character) in a difficult role、 though for me it was not an absolutely gripping version of this trope
this is quite a good drama but from episode 7 or 8 the coincidences become a little too unbelievable and the comedy not really funny〜 it would be better if Seo did not find out so soon what was going on with Yook I think: it seems strung into 16 episodes with each having a cliffhanger twist Dong Shik has to get out of when it could be shorter 〜final verdict watchable for the twists but it's credibility went relentlessly downhill
this is really a series of dialogues involving first three friends in a love triangle、then in the second half what seems like a pseudo spoiler、without much background activity、 rather like a stage play : the MLs are nice-looking and the affection is sweet 〜but structurally there seems little connection between the triangle story in the first half and the story of the second half 〜it is OK within its limitations
It needs to be passed over to an alternative studio maybe as a cooperative venture maybe located in Taiwan, Thailand or elsewhere like Meet You at the blossom
psychopathic serial killer is not promising comedy material even for black comedy but this has sufficiently interesting plot lines to justify seeing where it goes but will it sustain interest over 16 one hour long episodes?
apart from a really rushed and inconclusive ending failing to cover many of the characters、the ending is a real bummer and really not in keeping with what was throughout surely supposed to be mainly a family comedy show with touches of bittersweet romance?! then right at the end we have a romantic tragedy 😭 that completely departs from the essential character of the show〜truly inexplicable and I cannot imagine the reaction of the korean audience after following this for 126 episodes!
🩷😭finally got to the final episode and will miss this family and characters with many nice comic touches、my only criticism is maybe the love triangles came to dominate too much and the ending felt not fully rounding up for all the characters and in a main point for me departs from the character of the show ( I can only give more detail in spoiler comment)
very good sensitive exploration of gay teenager Ito's struggle for affirmation of his identity worked around his feelings for a classmate Yoshida, who himself has feelings for Aihara, a transferee following a rape attack, and the confused emotions and boundaries this brings to the surface. This is very nuanced movie and the dark side only slowly emerges in the daily school setting and climaxes [no pun] in a rather surreal playing out on a nocturnal seashore. Not your usual school movie. Interesting picture of 1990s Japan which has its own interest maybe though it is pitiful to see how little has changed from the repressive atmosphere and lack of acceptance of that time as evident from this movie.
this was excellent drama but not much to do with how life is like in a real school I think;I have had good teachers and bad teachers but definitely no saints. if only there is really some caring teacher like this one and not regarding what the students throw at her、 but great performance;and yes there are honorable sweet good and forgiving students but do not rely on it in real life and bullies do not suddenly become misunderstood good guys everyone misunderstood。 still not to underrate the drama for what it was すおい〜_ interesting compared to Japanese schools no after school clubs and no cleaning in Korea so lucky へ__(‾◡◝ )>
