"Clarifications for EP 1: Seunghyo's Memorial Park Scene"

3:28 - Both Seokryu and Seunghyo's mom starts bragging about their childrens' achievements while hiking with their friends.
6:08 - The other mom tells Moeum's mother that Seunghyo is receiving another award on that same day.
6:18 - Shows the award venue and there is a big banner that says '2024 Magazine Awards'
9:27 - Seunghyo who was at the memorial park receives a call from Myeongu asking him where he was and telling him that the award ceremony is starting.
10:12 - Seunghyo arrives at the award ceremony wearing the same clothes he wore when he visited the memorial, he took off his necktie and gave it to Myeongu before he headed to the stage to receive his award.
11:29 - Seokryu's mom hands out the wedding invitation of her daughter to her friends.
16:39 - Myeongu tells Seunghyo that he could tell from the color of his suit that SH had visited another memorial park again.
18:29 - Seunghyo's car briefly passed by Moeum's car with Seokryu inside.
18:42 - Shows Seokryu and her fiancΓ©'s name on the wedding invitation card with May 23, 2024 written on the card which was placed at the passenger seat of Seunghyo's car.
27:03 - They both finally meet and Seunghyo was clearly wearing the same outfit.

This is me debunking the 'theory' about Choi Seunghyo's scene at the memorial park which was shown at the very first episode being a 'future scene' where it was said that he was visiting Bae Seokryu's grave when it has been clearly shown how that scene is from the 'present' and in the same timeline as Seokryu's return to Korea. TBH, I don't know how some people managed to overlook all these facts when it has been evidently shown at the very very start of the drama.

the way people exaggerated about ep 8 really scared me. i enjoyed it a lot and i actually laughed in some parts.…
So true! It wasn't that bad. YAS! He hot and sexy af! Totally loving his bulldozer mode on plus the way he kept pestering her by reminding her of the expiry date lol...i actually love how unique and fresh that part is, like i'm loving the new approach to post confession scenes that they brought in, it is so them coded.

idk why people are overlooking this and I meant no offense, the funeral scene at the beginning is not a 'future…
Right, it is misleading those who haven't seen LND yet and makes me wonder if they even truly watched this drama to begin with, because how could they miss that when it was at the first ep!

I think the comments after the last two episodes are more negative and misleading than the episodes themselves.First,…
idk why people are overlooking this and I meant no offense, the funeral scene at the beginning is not a 'future scene' but rather the 'present scene'. Seunghyo was there simply to do a project and it was shown clearly how he ran to receive his award afterwards, like he and his coworker even had a conversation about him going to the funeral again, he literally wore the same outfit up to the moment he and Seokryu reunited again in front of his new office. Also, during the scene when their mothers were out hiking together, SH mother bragged about her son currently receiving an award, while SR mother was bragging about her daughter still in the US and was about to be married. Clearly, all of that happened in the 'present' timeline, to put it simply, Seokryu's return to Korea is at the same time when Seunghyo went to the funeral then to the award event. So, I actually find it ridiculous when I saw people making sudden theories saying he was visiting her funeral during that specific scene when it wasn't even a 'future scene'.

Seok Ryu and her parents keep having the same fights. They have expectations they want her to meet, they want…

I am actually so glad that Jung Somin and Jung Haein are given characters such as Bae Seokryu and Choi Seunghyo who are both flawed in their own ways and with each having their own emotional baggage, plus how they also come from two different imperfect families. Their characters are so relatable and realistic. I honestly preferred this rather than the usual or typical romcom characters we get to see in most romcom dramas now a days, because with such they are able to bring more complex range of emotions and depth. Knowing how the two of them are very talented and skilled actors, the heavy scenes would definitely bring highlight on their performance so it makes me even more glad they didn't dull down their characters to focus only on romance and comedy alone. They also made the storyline tackle different life struggles which are often overlooked in real life, by such it would allow those of us who experiences such things to be able to empathize and connect well with each character, I also find a sense of comfort in this drama. IMO this drama is more than just the revelation of Seokryu's sickness alone, there is so much more to it, with the way the writer has been tackling these different life struggles ever since the beginning of the drama, I really doubt they would heavily focus on that, it would probably just be a part of the struggles which she overcame. There is definitely so much more in store and I am loving the pacing. How they are allowing us to really sit in all these emotional roller coaster ride and appreciate every aspect of it which I find meaningful.

If Bae Seok Ryu really is the queen of tears, then surely we should expect some hopefully-optimistic experimental…
I doubt they would go through such trajectory. This is after all a completely different drama from QOT. Plus, haein spoiled it himself that by ep 11 there would be party onwards.

Make a character a cancer survivor and the leaps y'all jump to, at least wait for next week before deciding she's…
THIS!! with such revelation some people act as if she's already been put in a 'death sentence'. For sakes, why are some people so impatient with everything about LND storyline. To the point they are nitpicking almost every single thing. Like, ep 8 alone is the last episode of the drama when in reality we still have a lot more episodes to go, 8 whole freaking more episodes haha

So because of the speculation that the beginning of the ep 1 was actually the ending I really just rewatched ep…
IKR!! It was the same scene from the same day Seokryu came back to Korea. Makes me wonder how people come up with such theories while overlooking that fact alone lol

I heard that there is some clip where the ML is seen attending a funeral. Is this true?
That clip was at the very beginning you can watch it, it is also the same day when Seokryu returns to Korea, the same outfit plus their mothers conversations says it all. SO, I really doubt such theory lol

Kdrama viewers always have complaints, no matter the genre. If it's a plain romcom, they'll say there's no substance,…
Exactly this! Everything you said is on point. It's funny to me how there are still 8 more episodes left before this actually ends, we still have a long way to go. We are at the part where the storyline is beginning to dive deeper and uncover the hidden layers among each of the characters, most specially 'Bae Seokryu', yet some people act as if the storyline is merely constricted to the revelation of her having cancer alone, even to the extent of making it seem like she has been put in a 'death sentence' with such revelation. They seem to forget how there is still a lot more room for 'growth' and 'progress' with the storyline, like I don't get why some people are in so much rush with the storyline. The amount of negativity in this comment section is rather turning into something toxic than a positive environment. Sure, some people can vent their frustrations and disappointment, respect that, but I find it so unnecessary that some had gotten to a point of making comparisons and even labelling this as a 2.0 version of QOT. When both dramas are completely different from each other.

This is why I am loving 'Love Next Door' because of how realistic and relatable it is. I find dramas like this as a complete rare gem. I honestly think that the writer and director did a great job by not solely focusing on 'rom-com' alone, and as you had said balancing it with healing and slice of life elements because with such I was able to find the storyline meaningful. There is a very impactful line in episode 8 which Choi Seunghyo said to Bae Seokryu. It is the first time I have heard a line from a drama that was so so real and it healed me in some way. I really appreciate the writer for adding that line. Knowing how promising and talented both Jung Haein and Jung Somin truly is, I like how this drama gave justice to their skills and talents as actors by giving them characters such as Choi Seunghyo and Bae Seokryu who are both so realistically flawed and have emotional depth in them rather than the typical 'ever so perfect and overly green flag main characters' that are completely fictional. I would find it a complete waste of both their talents if their characters were dumbed down because of the storyline focusing solely on romcom. So, I'm really glad that romcom is not solely the focus and there is ACTUAL SUBSTANCE in this storyline as both of the actors are so capable of drawing viewers in with their delivery of raw emotions. This is one of the reasons why I am very much looking forward to next weeks episode because of the angst and heavy scenes that would surely give us an emotional roller coaster ride but at the same time would highlight their peak performance at delivering such raw emotions through screen.

Another thing that I like about this drama is how both of the main leads do not have a perfect family. They both come from a very flawed family with different circumstances. Once again, allowing us to truly relate with them and even at some point allow us to broaden our perspective because of how realistic it is. The generational trauma, the dream standard, workplace bullying, the overlooked eldest daughter struggles, and even how the 'rich' and 'successful' family have their own hardships too, it doesn't exempt them from the struggles of life. The way the storyline of LND is currently tackling all of that alone speaks volumes of how much emotional depth and connectivity this drama has. Especially for those who are able to empathize, connect well and relate to each of the characters in the story, this brings more than just healing alone but at the same time a sense of comfort because of how the storyline makes us feel 'seen'. Like, we're not the only ones who are actually going through such and it is not a punishment but a normal life struggle that some are experiencing as well. This again reminds me of why I started to love k-dramas. Plus, I love the pacing of this drama, how they are marinating their character development along with unpacking their emotional baggage rather than getting it all in one simple 'go'. It allows time to savor in every single complex layers of the characters, specially with both main leads, so by the time they get together at latter episodes we would be more appreciative of it and find it more meaningful because of what they will go through to get to that point.

I also agree with everything you said about her stomach cancer and I am honestly one of those who didn't find it as 'lazy writing'. It actually gives emphasis to all the struggles she had gone through whilst carrying all the expectations of her family on her shoulder, to the point she had neglected herself. I also think that it was an 'eye-opening' moment for her when she went through all that. That is why she became very firm and more determined about her life decisions, she must have realized then that she can't keep living the life her parents wants her to. IMO, ep 8 wasn't that awful as some people actually project it to be. This drama is seriously more than just episodes 8 revelation, there is so much more to it. I believe all emotions that will be spent on both ep 9 and 10 would be so worth it when ep 11 comes up to the end (thanks to spoiler haein).
