I can understand why this movie has a polarized but friendly reception. The movie is either an unorthodox rom-com or a typical slacker movie with elements of real life and romance.
But I honestly enjoyed it because I think it’s actually about being an adult but still having a hard time making choices when you’re supposed to have “grown up” and gotten used to that 9-to-5.
Even though most of the cast were late twenties and older, I believe all their characters acted like any flawed person in their youth who hasn’t truly grasped what true love is. I haven’t had my first kiss yet, but I can understand why the FL was so conflicted and moody at times. She hadn’t experienced what it’s like to be attracted to someone who genuinely “gets” her, and wants to hangout with her. I saw this in the scene when she’s interviewing the actress and the ML backs her up when the actress that she’s interviewing questions her competency in doing her job.
Even the side characters had a hard time with finding out what true love is. The boss, the coworkers, etc…
Because of this movie and how well-done the trailer was, I’m hoping they do a Beyond/Wong Ka Kui biopic. They’d show Wong Ka Kui’s signature/iconic outfit with the red jacket. The live version of “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies” would play in the background. I’m too much of an idealist.
Anywho, I’m going to give this movie a watch when I have the chance. Anita Mui is an icon.
I think it is because that's how Hseuh Hai originally was. He changed significantly into his "bad side"…
I too thought this. But it also brought home the fact that Lin Da Lang finally got his happy ending. Bao Zhu’s Mom did him so wrong. But it made her lose face at the end, when “poor” Lin Da Lang married her daughter. So, it was to tie up loose strings, and give Lin Da Lang his dignity back, and that engagement he wanted. His dream at graduation.
People I hate how he married her as Lai Dai Lang, I wish he was Xue hai instead. Since he was more cuter and funnier…
I think it was to convey that Lin Da Lang finally got his happy ending that he didn’t get when Bao Zhu and him were slated to graduat. He had the ring and everything ready. But Bao Zhu’s Mom had stomped on his dream.
