Better Than I Thought

I went into this with pretty low expectations and yes, it is a pretty standard office drama but what took me by surprise was how much heart was in the story.
Yes the FL is quite meek but she stops being a doormat, is very resilient and acts her age which I can never emphasis enough how much I adore this in a drama. Her chemistry with the ML was great too so I enjoyed their moments. I do agree with one comment that said it did drag a bit near the end. Personally, the final arc was a bit shounen-y for a josei and it would've been perfect ending at eight episodes but overall, still tolerable. I really liked the ending theme song too

Better Than Expected

This was an ambitious project and it worked for the most part. Relative newbies given the task to portray layered characters. Jun Su shows his experience when tackling the difficult heavier parts. Ja Woon a bit stiffer and restricted needs more practice to be more engaging. Together they did well. The story was a good concept.

Sae Byeok's adoration for Ha Neul was always felt. He had a single minded devotion that kept everyone out except the enemies. His care and protection to keep him safe fell short at the important times. The excruciating pain he felt in the fallout and ensuing aftermath was palpable. The reconciliation as it should be.

Their bodies felt natural together. They do have chemistry. The lack of acting skills were glossed over when they looked at each other. Their nc scenes were tastefully done. Intimate without being exploitative.

The pacing of the script was good as well though the unbelievable did occur. How does a convicted felon continue to send death threats from inside without authorities intercepting? A convicted deranged fan convinces her brother to join a deranged plan for no explicable reason other than them being siblings. How does someone get access to a stars hospital room without opposition.

The honesty of Ha Neul's mother in protecting her son above Sae Byeok's was touching. I usually hate when characters sell out to progress a script. She allowed her son to process at his own pace.

There were cut corners. Some worked and some glaringly didn't. The vocal delivery wanting most times. The light scenes more rewarding than the heavy. The radio announcer relaying that Never Forget Your Enemy would be Sae Byeok's last project was funny. For reality's sake, I hope not.

For what it became, I would recommend for someone looking for light viewing. The newbies did good.

A drama that stays with you long after it ends

The story is about Fan Chang Yu, a young woman who works as a butcher to survive, and Xie Zheng, a nobleman with a painful past. She finds him half dead in the snow and brings him home. From that one moment, everything changes for both of them. What I loved most is how naturally their love grows. It never feels forced. You watch this quiet, guarded man slowly open up.

The early episodes set in Lin'an are honestly some of the best drama episodes I have ever seen. Everything feels alive there. The town, the people, the small daily moments between the leads. I could have watched an entire drama just set in that town and been happy.

Tian Xiwei as Chang Yu is a joy to watch. She is strong, warm, funny, and real. You root for her from minute one. Zhang Linghe brings a quiet intensity to Xie Zheng that is hard to explain but impossible to ignore. His eyes say everything his character struggles to put into words. Together they have the kind of chemistry that makes you forget you are watching actors.

The supporting cast deserves just as much love. From the Lin'an folks to little Changning and Bao'er, everyone brings something special. And the villains (especially Sui Yuan Qing and Sui Yuan Huai) are so well written and acted that you almost cannot help but be fascinated by them even when you hate what they are doing.

The production is gorgeous from start to finish. Beautiful costumes, stunning scenery, and fight scenes that actually feel exciting and emotional at the same time. The music is something else entirely, it hits you right in the heart at exactly the right moments

A solid 10 out of 10. This drama reminded me why I love this genre so much.

Chameleon?

What made me watch this?
Shin Hae Sun and Lee Jun Hyuk. Both actors have already proven themselves to be top caliber actors.
Shin Hae Sun as always delivered. I wonder how she trains her mind to portray different characters in just 8 episodes. She made herself helpless when she was still at the bottom. Then she depicted a rich woman who seem to be generous.
Lee Jun Hyuk portrayed an analytical investigator. His character is relentless as he aims to put Sarah in prison for murder.

The story - it was intense. It is very psychological. I feel Park Mu Gyeong's anxiety as he tries to figure out the real Sarah Kim. As the story unfolds, it gives us glimpses of the good and the bad sides of Sarah. It seems Sarah paints herself as innocent to what she was being charged. In the end she did get a life sentence, yet still Mu Gyeong still can't figure her true identity.

What is the Art of Sarah - was it the story she made, the identities she created, the relationships she had and/or the Boudoir brand? We can try to be Mu Gyeong and be convinced that Sarah is such a chameleon.

Strong Visuals, Weak Storytelling

The visuals are beautiful, and there are a few well‑crafted lines. The concept itself is promising. But overall, the drama felt dull at times. The lead actress caught my attention more with her beauty than with her performance; her cold, distant expression didn’t leave much of an impression — it’s the kind of acting you see in many Korean dramas. The story doesn’t build real tension, because nothing meaningful actually happens on screen.

The police investigation is also weak — there were no chills, no sense of real danger or mystery. The main message of the drama seems to be about how wealthy people obsess over luxury brands. It was an interesting starting point, but that’s all it ever becomes. The entire plot revolves around handbags, and even the other characters — the rich women — seem to care about nothing else. What about clothes, cars, real estate, jewelry? A handbag isn’t the only symbol of luxury.

The backstory of the main character felt strange as well. Even if she avoided public records as an adult, she would still have a passport, personal data, employment history, signed contracts — some trace of her identity. It was odd that the police couldn’t figure out who she was. Even opening a bank account requires proper identification.

The protagonist herself didn’t evoke any interest — no fear, no sympathy, no hatred. Even in the flashbacks, she shows the same blank, dissatisfied expression. It feels like her entire personality revolves around handbags, and that’s it. Because of that, watching the drama became boring for me.

I really like Thon Nyein. The girl is beautiful and very lovable. I also like the actor's acting very much. I really like the actress's acting. I really like Min Nga Mi Yangzi, who is a good actress. Everyone in this movie is very good. I think that there is still a lot of drama going on outside because the actress is very good at acting. The actor's voice is so mature. The actress's role is so touching that I cried 8 times, 8 times, 8 times, 8 times. I felt it all. The second actor is also very handsome and acts very well. His eye movements are very touching. The woman who plays the actress's mother is also very good at acting. The actress's cuteness is so irresistible. I was very attracted to her. Please support this movie, my friends. It's a dream of China that is very much alive...🥰😘😘😘 It's captivating..it's not boring. The lake of the thorn is so beautiful, my dear 👸🤴👍👍👍👍A young girl falls in love with an older man, but her parents disapprove, and the two break up. The journey of love doesn't end easily, but is fraught with difficulties.

Pursuit of Jade

Was it a good drama? Yes. Was it intriguing? Yes but was it perfect? No. The cast, the storyline, the effects, the acting everything was good but the arrangement of story made the story lack its soul. And in many places it felt like the drama has been cut out. Like sudden change of Li hui'an, and many more scenes felt like half. Also the war scenes were very basic, because I have seen much better war scenes. Here the war scenes felt like childs play. In many instances I felt like I have skipped a episode or something because continuity was missing in many places and also fire in Qi min's background story also felt confusing. Also the people fantasizing over Qi min are actually psychopaths, guys he killed hundreds and thousands of people, also him treating qianqian is nothing to be fantasized. I really don't understand those peoples, Most of them are those Wattpad readers who romanticise the forced love.

But overall it's a very good drama, which will keep us all awake.

This drama is on a very sensitive topic.

The bad things:
1. This drama is on a very sensitive topic.
2. Too many unlikable characters in the story.

The good things:
1. The best point about this drama is that fl is very strong. Though not invulnerable but someone who continues fighting despite life's difficulties.
2. The ml is the epitome of selfless love.
3. The two main leads acting is phenomenal.
4. The message of this drama is beautiful.
''There is no pain you can't overcome and despair you can't endure." -Ye Sibei
5. Drama ends on a positive note.

This is what happens when dumb writers write dumb character and dumber directors somehow make the whole story way dumber than it already is.

I hated watching this shit show so much that I came here to write this review; which I haven't done for any other drama ever.

The show has a weak ass mystery as its main plot. And the way the characters behave and the way they ‘try’ to solve it makes this a joke of a thriller show.

So exhausting

Watching 38 episodes felt like I am serving a full prison sentence for a crime I didn’t commit. This drama literally had so much potential in the beginning.... I mean the start was promising, the ending was rushed but still satisfactory.... But somewhere in the middle, the storytelling got trapped in a loop of clichés, dragging scenes, and the same tricks being repeated again and again like a pendulum of a wall clock.
Some events were so illogical that my brain simply gave up trying to make sense of them. For example, how can a complete stranger (the Empress’s right-hand man from an enemy state), walk in and casually convince a general, two princes, and even the king of another state? In normal life, we don’t trust strangers with our OTPs, and here the Royals are taking life decisions based on one random man’s speech.. Remarkable.
And the overuse of this man with his dark magic needles slowly drained the joy out of the story for me. Every time he appeared, it felt less like tension and more like déjà vu in period costume.
For the first 28 episodes, the story mostly revolves around the protagonists' meeting, flirting, bonding, and falling in love. Which is fine… but 28 episodes of feeding soup and medicinal concoctions to each other... ahh!!!!
The lead characters also felt surprisingly weak and uninspiring. I understand that some people enjoy stories where heroes remain blindly loyal to the king and die as martyrs for the state. But personally, I prefer protagonists who are smart, practical, and a little rebellious. The kind who can outthink problems, not just sacrifice themselves dramatically.
Here, the FL especially lacked that sharpness. She is shown as brave, yet her decisions often felt like courage without strategy. Watching someone use a bow and arrow in close combat and still rise to the rank of general was… well, an experience ... A very confusing one. Kudos to the writer for achieving the impossible: turning battlefield logic into modern art. 😒😒
And then we have the male lead, blessed with supernatural powers strong enough to defeat an army of ten thousand soldiers… He can stop arrows mid-air, send enemies flying, bend the laws of physics, but apparently couldn't do anything about FL's situation of being threatened with her family members' lives and honour.

Honestly speaking, it was Cheng Lei who kept me going till the end. Else I would have respectfully exited this drama around episode 12 with my dignity intact and snacks still in hand.
Second good thing about this drama was it's music l, way better than my expectations.

Do I recommend this drama?
Well, if you enjoy very sweet romance with not much else happening around it, then yes, this could be a good pick. But if you like your story to feel like a full meal with side dishes, spices, and a bit of crunch, then I would suggest watching the first 8 to 10 episodes and deciding for yourself before committing to the entire buffet.

Started for EarthMix, stayed for GeminiFourth

*mild spoilers* First episode was so fast for no reason, they immediately slept and that didn't went well through the rest of the series. Some scenes were a little boring with Jim and -I forgot Mix's characters name-, Heart and Liming was sooo cute though worth to watch for them. I expected something a lot warm with EarthMix before starting. I don't hate it though, I think? Also uncle Jim you are also poor and gay stfu

Delivered everything I was hoping for

It was refreshing to see a different side of Ester Yu and she was paired brilliantly with He Yu who was the reason I came to this drama.

I knew from what she said at the outset on the plane that this was going to be good. Everything she described him as was so polar opposite to what she found and this drama did not disappoint as they clashed and crashed their way through their mental and emotional issues to seek out their happy ending which was great to see in a plot that made me laugh, cry and want to bash their heads together. Perfect Romcom

Would I watch again? Absolutely

I feel embarrassed for Chai Chai

I watching this on last year and actually the premises was interesting and the most unfortunate case on this drama was Male Lead performance. I feel he reluctant since he is rookie and made the chemistry are too awkward. If you mentioning kissing scene it feels like FL is kissing the wood. I am not having with the dub. And this is obviously on budget drama.

Watch on own your risk.

Please give this drama a chance!

I first decided to watch this drama because Lu Yuxiao was rumored to star in season 2 of Romance in the Alley, and I am a fan of hers. Then I saw that Wang Anyu was also in it, so it’s a must. But then I couldn’t find proper subtitles for it and nearly gave up after half an episode :D

However, it is a good drama! A nostalgic Reply-series-like drama, with the importance of parents’ roles and their story of raising their children in a closely knitted neighborhood in the 70s–80s. I’ve watched several Chinese dramas with settings before, during, and after the reform of China’s planned economy, so I kind of understand the background and how life worked at the time. And the drama describes the problems and the development of the era quite well.

The drama is like: I wish I had a relationship with neighbors like them versus I wish they could leave us alone and mind their own business lol. Sometimes they’re too close; sometimes I need a Huang Ling or Song Ying for once in my life. The two beautiful ladies are the highlight! They practically live together, supporting each other, fighting with each other (Dongzhe and Xiaoting, you guys are partly responsible for this lol) within a 20-year span. They raise their children together (and even marry into each other), and if you think it’s a boring storyline, just stop and switch.

I cried and laughed throughout the 40 episodes. I laughed because of Dongzhe, I cried because of the parents. And also, because of Li Jia. Being a sandwich-generation family member (it’s even worse in the 80s) is never easy.

It’s a relatable story for everyone who is living in a developing country, and I can say the production did wonders. The acting is also awesome. I know the actress who played Dongzhe’s mom won the Magnolia Awards for her role, and the drama also got nominated in many categories. So, if you have “an award-winning production” as one of the starter to watch drama on your list, you should definitely watch this drama. They have some weak parts, of course, but it’s still a good drama.

Each couple has their charm. The Zhuang parents are about an unbalanced power dynamic between the two leads. The husband puts his extended family first, and I am so glad Huang Ling fought for it (and she won!). I nearly shouted “DIVORCE HIM” every time Zhuang Chaoying asked the kids to visit their grandparents lol. The Lin family seems more peaceful, but it’s about putting bread on the table. Glad Song Ying is quick to adapt, and I support her to smack Dongzhe at every chance because he is sooooo mischievous! But thank you for the laughter Lol.

Love the first couple (I mention it by age), Tunan-Jia, with their storyline. Some people might find Li Jia’s story annoying, but she can’t help it. It’s a real problem with realistic progression, and even though they took time to detour, they finally found the finish line together, that’s enough *cry a bit. The second couple, Dongzhe-Xiaoting, is more like an impulsive young challenger couple that turns good. It’s a little bit too good, actually. Childhood sweethearts with a perfect pace and perfect ending. They’re really cute together, and even though sometimes I don’t support their choices, they are really a match made in heaven. Like two troublesome people producing double uproar but somehow compatible and complementary :)

Speaking about the actors, it’s my first time watching most of them (except Wang Anyu, Lu Yuxiao, Shi Yunpeng, and Zhou Jieqiong), and it makes me wonder if I should add more non-idol dramas to my watch list lol. It’s my first time seeing Fan Chengcheng’s acting, as I only saw him on Keep Running, and gosh he is…different (in a good way, ofc) lol. And Guan Xiaotong…she’s kinda famous for other reasons, but I think I should watch more of her dramas before I can say anything. But she’s so pretty! Next is Lu Yuxiao: I’ve watched lots of her dramas, and can someone tell me why her dubbing is always like that :|

Anyway, the biggest downside of this drama is THE SUBTITLES!! IT’S SUCH A LOSS for Cdrama fans to skip this drama because they can’t watch it without subs. Mango, come onnnnn it’s a 2024 release drama and now it’s 2026, and you still can’t provide proper subs for international fans? I nearly gave up for the second time in Episode 9 because of how bad it is. Who the hell is “Forestry Worker”? I only know Lin Gong lol. Fortunately, I got used to it and binge-watched it to the end (I am so proud of myself :D). It is a good way to improve your Mandarin skills, though. At least for me, a non-Chinese speaker with an old rusty HSK level 2/3 (old version) skill lol. I think you can go for level 4 for the listening test if you can finish the drama haha!
