Definitely Sweet love / slow burn romance masterpiece but not for everyone

This type of Drama is definitely down my alley.


If you're into burlesque comedy type drama, this isn't for you since it's very slow paced.

Many details, easter eggs are in the scenes, so it has a rewatch value. (I have seen it twice in a month)
not many unrealistic plot twist.
What I have loved
- Very nice believable couple, love the sceneries and background from Hangzhou.
- Photography and artistic direction is pretty good, make very eye candy.
- the TCM background and the alternative healing parallel between aches/sickness and love is very appreciated.
- the supporting cast that makes the whole show very believable
- Moving from a toxic relationship to a healing one is the breadcrumbs
- Many outside shots and scenes made you feel like visiting this part of China in spring.
- Main roles are very fit and both actors where you can feel a chemistry. (they did officially acknowledge exploring dating after the show)

This is so far my favorite sweet love romance CDrama.

I do NOT recommend

This is straight up dogsh*t ive just wasted my precious time. The story isnt even different from the korean version, its the same (okay maybe some scenes are a little bit different but it doesnt change anything). I don't understand how people says it's scarier than the korean one?? I mean yeah ofc the scene where moonjo cheap japanese version ripped cockroaches limbs one by one was weird and somewhat disturbing, i'd rather call it disgusting. Don't even get me started on the bare buttcheeks. B.R.O. okay that wasnt necessary but whatever makes you sleep at night... I feel like the whole movie was really rushed and it felt like a quick rerun of the series. The acting is awful too, they really didn't have a big budget for the movie, did they? Some scenes where unecessarily long, and it was kind of akward beacuse of it. The movie kind of kept you on the edge though. Maybe im just overreacting but i expected something better. IDK what happened while the creators were writing this show.

TBH the only reason I even watched the show was because the two leads looked kinda cute together but upon watching through the entire thing I never once felt they had any chemistry. Both the male lead and the female lead put forward some of the most boring acting performances I have seen even by low budget K-Drama Standards. They both look good, yes, but their acting leaves a lot to be desired. The only person who was acting decent was the FL's best friend.
The overarching plot was even more disappointing. What could have been an exploration of how different people cope with grief, loneliness ended up being a very surface level and basic show.
Even so I pushed through the show since it was kind of cute at some moments but the final episode really dropped the ball. The villain of the story is forgiven so easily without any major emotional repercussions towards her by the female lead. The relationship between the two leads also still feels very quick and forced though that might be due to the short length of the series only being 8 episodes long.
Overall a disappointing mess that failed to make me even feel a tiny bit of comfort that some other silly dramas make me feel but maybe it could have been better with a few more episodes to flesh out the story and focus a bit more on the emotional scenes.

Generation to Generation: A Strong Start That Loses Its Edge

The drama begins with a promising and engaging start. The early episodes are gripping, with clever manipulation between characters and a storyline that moves forward smoothly. The tension and emotional stakes make the first half especially enjoyable.

However, the story gradually loses its strength toward the climax. What initially felt like a powerful revenge narrative eventually falls into a familiar and somewhat predictable pattern. The backstory behind the revenge is not entirely convincing, and the resolution feels more cliché than satisfying. For a drama that began with such intensity, the lack of deeper revenge or consequences makes the ending feel slightly underwhelming.

Zhou Yi Ran absolutely carries the show. His character is compelling and intense, especially in the way he loves. He is the kind of man who would give up everything for the person he loves, even to the point of marrying into her family without hesitation. His devotion is striking, and his presence on screen is hard to ignore. Visually, he fits the role perfectly. His looks, expressions, and the costume design all elevate his character. Honestly, his character had the potential for even greater depth, and it would have been interesting to explore his story more deeply.

Bao Shang, on the other hand, brings a bright and cheerful energy to the story. Her character feels warm and sincere, and her love for the people around her is genuine. While her relationship is sweet, the romance could have been portrayed with a bit more emotional depth.


The drama does have its flaws. The editing can feel uneven, and the ending episodes are not entirely convincing. However, the characters and their performances deserve appreciation. While it may not be outstanding, it remains a watchable drama, largely because the lead actors truly do justice to their roles.

Overall, *Generation to Generation* is still worth watching , mainly for its strong start, appealing characters, and Zhou Yi Ran’s performance. It just leaves the feeling that the story could have been much more powerful if it had stayed true to its darker revenge premise.

This Series Made Me Wish the Story Was Longer

This was actually my first time watching a drama with a hint of BL, which is usually a genre I tend to avoid. But since the description mentioned it was a “censored adaptation of the same-sex genre,” I decided to give it a chance. At first, I was expecting more of a strong brotherhood-type relationship between the two leads. Some of their subtle interactions felt a little awkward to me personally, but I eventually put that aside and focused more on the story itself.

And honestly, I’m glad I did because the drama was really enjoyable. One of my favorite parts was watching the leads work together to solve the mysteries behind each door. The cases were interesting, and their teamwork made the whole journey fun to watch.

Ling Jiu Shi’s character development was also one of the highlights for me. Through the different doors and challenges, we get to see him go through so many emotions—love, hate, resentment, atonement, pity, and sadness for the people and characters he encounters. His journey of self-discovery felt meaningful, and you can really see how much he grows along the way.

That said, the last seven episodes didn’t hit the same way as the earlier parts of the drama. The Door 11 quest especially felt a bit bland and wrapped up too quickly compared to the previous doors. It felt like that part of the story could have been explored more instead of ending so abruptly. Because of that, the ending left me wishing the story had been stretched a little longer.

Overall though, I still think this drama is worth watching. If you enjoy mystery-driven stories, character growth, and watching the leads tackle different challenges together, this is definitely a drama worth checking out.

The story and The casting

the story is outstanding but the the acting is even more intriguing than the story itself, the actors played their roles perfectly I thought it was real at the end I shed tears hoping it could have ended a little differently but then I remembered it's just a movie, anyway Thank you for the experience and unique feeling I had while I was watching this series. I loved it especially the character xiao Huan and Ling cangcang their story was so touching that I almost felt pity for them that it had to end this way and without a proper goodbye and reunion after so much struggle, I felt as if I was the one experiencing the loss but truly the acting was exceptional and grand I thank a lot the casting crew and also the one who played xiao Ying, I loved her cause the way she played that character is profound

Strong Ending After a Mixed Middle

This series starts with a solid introduction, doing a good job of setting up the characters and the basic story without revealing too much too early. The early episodes balance little comedy and romance quite well. The romantic development progresses steadily, even if it takes a while before the relationship truly moves forward.

The middle part of the story is somewhat weaker. Some plot developments feel forced and occasionally predictable, and one particular character reveal is handled in a rather cliché way. At times the writing feels a bit lazy, making certain twists easy to anticipate.

However, the series improves again toward the end. The later episodes strengthen the characters and the overall storyline, leading into a finale that delivers a satisfying conclusion. While there are some minor issues with plot logic and acting, the ending manages to wrap things up clearly without leaving major questions unanswered.

Overall, the drama remains entertaining and enjoyable. Despite some predictable moments and uneven writing in the middle episodes, the strong final episodes and clear conclusion make it a worthwhile watch.

The characters deserved a plot more consistent but it's still enjoyable

I had a good time watching this drama even I have mixed feelings.

Firstly the costumes and the cinematography (love how they highlighted the colour pink it’s so rare in c-drama land) were exquisite. It was respectfully Zhou Yiran’s best look 🤌🏾. The acting was cool too, I think everyone did their part specially the main leads.

The relationship between Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao was interesting. Since the story was too fast paced in the beginning we failed to understand why he was so attached to her in this little spam of time but I liked how their relationship developed afterward.
However it was a little one sided at some point. I agreed with Cai Zhao for the matter of abandoning her family and sect at first because yes we don't want to see women abandoning their all life for the sake of man.
But the more we saw the different members of the Six Righteous Sects, the more we came across their hypocrisy and selfishness. So you can’t just seek a little peaceful and happy life when the people around you are clearly off. Does that not make you an hypocrite as well ? What is freedom and happiness when you turn blind toward injustice ? I wish the plot confronted this contradiction more deeply : not following MQY blindly but yes reflecting about the world around her.

My Qingyan is a great part of why this drama was good to me. He was cunning, manipulative, did not fret about using people to get what he wanted, ruthless when it was necessary. And I liked that about him : Many ML character’s are presented this way these days but turn into softies in the middle which can be disappointing sometimes.
I wished they also gave him a true purpose for his life, to make his relationship with Zhao’s more healthy though. I did not want him to be stripped oh his personality just a little change to make his character more deeper.

The main vilain is predictable, I had my doubts from the start so it wasn’t a surprise. I was disappointed for the reasons he did that though. Maybe if they revealed it sooner and added more depth to him I could’ve understood him to some extent but for what it worth no. The side characters are good, I quite liked a few of them, some are annoying but their role makes sense.

For the parts that makes the drama very mixed for me :
First, the editing is truly horrible in the 5 first episodes, it gets little bit better after but sometimes it’s getting odd again. And it’s a big problem because it prevent the audience to understand the plot. They introduced way too more characters in a little spam of time, and it’s too fast-paced to understand the story properly. I persevered and had a good time but not everyone has the patience clearly.

I feel the characters and the world building deserved more. Honestly with more consistency, a better beginning and editing, a proper presentation of the old generation it could’ve been lit.

Bad writing, excellent lead characters

For a drama that relied heavily on romance, I was expecting a better ending and at least a prologue about their married life together, but I guess I'll just be content with the fact that they ended up happy and together. The writing was poor, which is a shame because it had so much potential. The stories of those who came before them, especially her aunt and his uncle, were interesting, but the writers had no idea what to do with them. The editing at the beginning of the drama would sometimes give me a headache because it would just cut abruptly from one scene to another and make you wonder what the hell was happening. All the characters, with the exception of the leads, were plain stupid. You just had to ignore it and believe that a teenage girl was doing everything alone and outsmarting everyone while the elders just watched. But oh boy, it was worth it. Zhaozhao and Mu Qingyan's characters and love story were everything, and I would've watched more episodes of the writers not having a slight idea of what they were doing just because of them. To simplify it: if you're looking for good writing, this drama might not be for you, but if you're capable of putting everything aside for an excellent couple, go ahead.

Entertaining short

This is one of the better shorts i have seen, most of them are verry messy but this one wasn't. I am glad i was able to find a version that was made into a movie, because i really dislike the 2 minute episodes.
It was an entertaining story.
The music was very random, they used the music from other drama's. The visuals were great!

The acting by the mainswas good enough, and their chemistry was good. The kisses and bed scene's were good.
But the rest of the actors didn't do a very good job. And the draw on mustache and beard from the father were just ridiculous.
The voice overs were badly done.

A fluffy rom-com that is easy on the eyes and meant to be just that!

This drama was my first official intro into k-dramas & k-entertainment as a whole so it somewhat holds a special place in my heart. And because it was my first, I didn't know much about tropes and what not in Korean dramas so I didn't think much of the plot. coming off from watching woke Hollywood stuff that no longer made much sense, I think I was in such a culture shock and seeing something refreshing that I didn't think much of the story and just enjoyed it for what it is. so it's a bit surprising for me to see that this show has so many negative reviews. And whilst I understand the reasons for these reviews especially since I've watched a fair share of dramas at this point, I still believe this drama was meant to be just what it was - it wasn't made to be served up with a side of thrillers, serial killers, unnecessary misunderstandings that never get resolved or are resolved way too late, and whatnot; just two gorgeous looking leads falling for each other spontaneously and working through their relationship as it progresses with whatever baggage it comes with. That in itself was the plot, every other thing was secondary, yes, even character development was secondary, I dare say.
Is it the ideal drama? Maybe not. But it was shot really beautifully though.
Does it also have its own tropes? Yes, and over the top too.
Was it perfect? Nope, not even in the slightest.
Did it deliver on what it actually promised to be? Yes, yes it did.
Were the leads a great pair? Yes, I think they were. And as for their acting, ML delivered way better on everything than the FL. in my opinion. They also had a great supporting cast as well.
I think this drama can be enjoyed by everyone if you just adjust your viewing lens to see it for what it is. This may be difficult especially if you are not new to k-dramas and have seen a fair share of other titles with more depth but if you just turn on the cute and fluffy all the way up for this one, then you will enjoy it a great deal.
