A wonderful journey from hell to heavenly love.

I am not a regular K drama viewer anymore so I cannot say this dama was a cliche type of drama. It was recommended by a friend so I decided to watch it since there appeared to be a lag in good dramas during the Xmas period. I was pleasantly surprised at the content and I just enjoyed every minute of each week. The storyline brought me back to savor the progression of the relationship and the consequences of their polar opposite that attract circumstances to overcome. Visually the drama was outstanding and the stylist did a great job on all of the characters something that always irks me when a CEO or financially privileged character is dressed like they were shopping in a bargain basement. This was not the case throughout the drama and it added to appeal.

The acting: Superb and worth a high rating. The chemistry was just HOT HOT HOT between the leads and their interactions were natural and did not feel forced. The secondary couple was cute and the actors that laid roles that were not the most appealing in the character they played had a compelling joy of contrasting evil vs good. Overall the FL and ML complimented each other which made this drama very satisfying to watch. Perfect casting. Excellent scriptwriter. CGI and Cinematography were all visually pleasing.

The music -- I was not distracted by music so it was fine and was not overdone or inappropriately injected into scenes as to make the viewer annoyed.

Rewatch value: Would rewatch since it was 16 episodes not binged. Some characters would be more enjoyable to watch the second time around -- the ML and FL assistants; the "gang members" the family members and their acting and roles. Very entertaining drama and I would recommend it to any viewers who enjoy love stories, push and pull situations, and overall pure romance situations throughout the 16 episodes (drama was appropriate length) -- no dragging or fillers.

But a shadow of Ten Miles of Peach Blossom

Immortals, demons, gods and nine-tail foxes are the common ingredients of this fantasy drama and Ten Miles of Peach Blossom but it falters in all aspects.

The most glaring one for me was the inconsistent CGI - some looked good while others looked childish. So important to get this right to be able to immerse yourselves in this fantasy setting. Thankfully, most of the wire work was smooth so the illusion of flying and landing and clothes flowing the right way was better than most dramas of this genre.

Dresses were beautiful and flowy but unfortunately too much dangly bits in the hair and some looking very plasticky. TMOPB is still tops for me to this day for this aspect.

Story was average with the usual misunderstandings to drive separation and evil thoughts. If you let yourselves use logic too much, you’ll end up raising your eyebrows at immortals using a toilet, walking or flying when they could teleport and much much more.

Twins: A Riveting Tale of Identity, Brotherhood, and Sports in the World of BL Drama???

Story :
"Twins" is an exceptional BL series that brilliantly blends sports drama with heartfelt romance. The story of Zee and Sprite, identical twins separated by their parents' divorce, captivates with its depth and originality. Sprite's journey, filling in for his comatose brother Zee in the volleyball team while navigating complex emotions, is both touching and thrilling.

Acting/Cast :
The character development is top-notch. Zee's arrogance contrasts starkly with Sprite's warmth, creating a dynamic that enriches the narrative. The tension and eventual romance between Sprite and First are beautifully portrayed, evolving from animosity to deep love. This "enemies to lovers" trope is a classic, but "Twins" gives it a fresh and exciting twist.

The secondary characters, like Sam and Thun, add layers of humor and emotion, enhancing the story's richness. The portrayal of Jack and Mike, though less developed, contributes to the diverse tapestry of relationships within the series.

The acting is superb, particularly by Frame Ritchanon Sriprasitdacha (Zee / Spite) and Ryan Panya Mcshane (First). Their chemistry is palpable, making their romantic scenes a delight to watch. The series doesn't shy away from depicting passion, which is tastefully done and adds to the story's intensity.

Overall :
"Twins" also stands out for addressing serious issues like harassment in sports, the challenges faced by LGBT+ athletes, and the impact of injuries on players' lives. These themes are woven seamlessly into the narrative, adding depth and relevance.

The only downside is the lack of screen time for certain characters and relationships, which could be explored further. Maybe a second season would be perfect for this ????

Overall, "Twins" is a gem in the BL genre, offering a unique combination of sports, romance, and social commentary. It's a series that deserves much more recognition. Frame and Ryan's performances are a highlight, and I hope to see them in future projects. ???

What a big disappointment

This feels like an ordeal, to be honest.

I only started getting hooked at episode 5 onwards; the beginning wasn't bad, but I thoroughly enjoyed episode 5 and 6 without watching it in double speed (which, btw, I have never watched so much of a show through double-speeding...). I wasn't as crazy about it as the rest, but the middle of the show was generally enjoyable and nice to be honest (episode 5-10).

Visually, the series is great. The leads look great - individually and together -, the styling is exquisite (oh, to have DDH styling...) and the sets/colors as well as the cinematography are stunning. I also liked the OST a lot, which offers ballads but also moody Pop (the title theme is pretty cool - even with the cursive singing lol).

The acting is alright. In my opinion, Song Kang lacks depth in his performance and definitely shines more in action scenes that are intense (I loved him in "Sweet Home" for example). But I don't think he has the subtle or eye acting down just yet. There are some actors out there who do that very nicely (for example just recently Jung Woo Sung, or also Namkoong Min and Ji Chang Wook). Maybe romance isn't his strength, i don't know. Though SK played the lovesick, goofy boyfriend very well. He was cute with his infatuation with DDH, I will admit.
I enjoyed Kim Yoo Jung's acting a lot, especially in emotional scenes (or also in episode 12 with the past life storyline). She also touched me in the last episode. Her acting in the beginning of episode 16 was quite moving, she made me shed a tear haha!
The other characters - didn't care for them. They were there to create drama - Jin "Star" (can't believe there was a weird attempt to redeem her somehow...) - or some were there for comedic relief - the office people or Noh Soo An.

The story is badly paced and boring. This should/could have been a 12-14 episode drama, but they dragged it out way too much. The episode 14 breakup was also unnecessary and didn't do the plot (or my viewing experience for that matter) any favor as episode 15 was boring and dragged. The last few minutes of the final episode also felt endless. It's like they had several scenes as the "last scene" and just put them all together, more and more scenes added - like stop, put an end to it.

I think overall, this drama was okay but I think it's a little overrated. The acting is so-so. the story is okay but not crazy - it's a cute show/fantasy rom-com for the vibes, but it's not as grand as people make it out to be. Which is okay, doesn't have to be.

You can't try to see something that's invisible.

The second of three Japanese-made Invisible Man films, this time by Toho studios and much more overt in terms of leaning into post-war trauma than Daiei's The Invisible Man Appears. Unlike that film, Toho's production puts the trauma of its characters front and centre with the whole invisibility angle not actually turning up until about halfway through.

In Ginza, the dead body of an invisible man is discovered, alongside a suicide note. The note reveals that there is at least one other invisible man still alive. An ex-army commander reveals that during the war, Dr Nishizaki discovered by chance a particle that, when properly utilized, turns any object invisible. At the end of the Pacific War, a special attack corps made up of invisible men crashed on Saipan Island and were presumed dead, however, two survived. The effects of the invisibility particle cannot be undone.

Another very loose adaptation of the original story, this Invisible Man is far less a deranged killer than some adaptations have made him out to be and is much more focused on a sympathetic portrayal of its titular character. The Invisible Man of this film is much more focused on dismantling an organised crime syndicate that dresses up as the iconic image of the said character in order to commit crimes.

This is the only other film I've seen from Motoyoshi Oda outside of the two edits of Godzilla Raids Again. It's certainly a very moody film and like Raids Again, Oda's direction is solid and made a lot better here thanks to some pretty great editing. There are some great set pieces and a very consistent tone throughout the film and of course, there's Oda's patented car chase by the end. The special effects sequences from Eiji Tsuburaya are very clever but sparingly used, so there's a lot of pressure from the actors to be extremely good at miming which they thankfully fully commit to.

The plot is admittedly very messy in places and can even be almost incomprehensible at times, where this film does triumph however is in its characters. Seizaburo Kawazu as Takamitsu Nanjo, the film's Invisible Man is a tragic character, who was turned invisible against his will in order to help provide the funds to give his mother care, he finds new motivation in order to help a little blind girl finally regain her sight. Like with Godzilla Raids Again, it's wonderful to see Yoshio Tsuchiya in something other than a villainous role, here as Komatsu he assists in uncovering the major connections that link the criminal gangs together as an active driving force behind the plot. The rest of the cast is all pretty good.

Overall, Toho's adaptation of The Invisible Man is another solid little affair, once again less focused on the horror of the original and more focused on the science-fiction aspects of the production. You can see the later influence of their transforming human series starting their development here.

Invisibility is no longer in the realm of impossibility.

The third and final Invisible Man film created by the Japanese, The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly acts as a standalone sequel of sorts to Daiei's The Invisible Man Appears but you wouldn't know that from watching the film since it doesn't even acknowledge the film that came before.

A series of ghastly murders are being committed. The one similarity in each of the murders is that a weird buzzing sound is always heard right before the murder occurs. Is the killer invisible or possibly some other incredible creature?

Like many of the B-movie tokusatsu adventures that would follow, The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly brings the wartime trauma to the fore, implying that this bodily corruption is an extension of the spiritual corruption suffered by those who lived through the conflict.

The Invisible Man Appears had opted to minimise the threat of violence to emphasise the immoral criminality of casual gangsterdom, thuggish armed robbery and the obscenity of fighting over a shiny diamond necklace when so many were going hungry, but Human Fly opens with a murder which turns out to be one of six recent mysterious cases of unexplained violent death. The only clue the police can come up with is a matchbook, later realising that some of the victims had served during the war together.

Where the Invisible Man in Daiei's first film is used as a warning about the misuse of science and the rising inequalities of the complicated post-war economy. By the 1950s, he'd become a more sympathetic figure. For Daiei, he was now a force of order, an unambiguously good instrument of law enforcement and a guardian of justice. For Toho, he was the melancholy ghost of the middle-aged man who'd been transformed by militarist folly, and like the 1949 Invisible Man knew he could never change back. The Human Fly, meanwhile, was everything that was rotten in the current society - embittered, greedy and vengeful, an example of bad science for which there was no legitimate application.

The impressive effects work of Eiji Tsuburaya has been abandoned and while Tōru Matoba attempts to do the ideas created by Eiji justice, his creativity is extremely limited by his choices of shots. Although the sequence of the railway and train exploding is a bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming effort. There's very little screentime dedicated to the titular characters and they are mostly relegated to background roles while a substandard police procedural plays out in the foreground.

Mitsuo Murayama's direction is fine, the story is fine, the characters are fine, it's just all a big bag of fine. It's not a film that is by any means special like the last two, just insanely forgettable. The actors don't really commit to the insane plot and ideas the film wants to portray and it mostly comes across as half-arsed in places.

Overall, The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly is an entertaining if forgettable romp in the world of tokusatsu, you can do so much better but equally, you could do so much worse.

EXTREMELY overrated

The appraisal of this drama is excessively inflated. So in other words, all of these reviews literally don't make sense. It has a boring plot, always the "met in past life" trope, jokes are extremely overused and boring. I'm so sure that the only reason people even watch this drama is due to it being Korean, having popular and pretty actors, and it just keeps making middle finger/f**k you jokes and I don't care about swearing but at some point all the jokes are way too used. I seriously don't understand what people see in this show.
P.S: The female lead is actually so annoying, the way they tried to make her cool, independent but also kind, and soft inside I cannot emphasize how overused this trope is. Same with the male lead, but instead his character is new and unique but unique isn't always the good thing. The only good character in this show was the grandma, and of course the writer had to kill her off the bat.

There is no good or evil in science, but it can be used for good or evil purposes.

The Invisible Man Appears holds the unique distinction of being the earliest surviving tokusatsu production and one of three Japanese-made films starring the titular character. It's a relatively unique and unusual production compared to the later tokusatsu films of the 50s and 60s where it remains entirely forward-looking, relegating the trauma of World War II to background context rather than primary motivation.

Jewel thieves become interested in an invisibility formula invented by Professor Nakazato and want to use his invention to acquire a diamond necklace called the "Tears of Amour"...

Clearly taking influence from the exposure to American films during the Allied Occupation of Japan, The Invisible Man Appears is a very loose adaptation of the original Wells novel and appears to take cues from the more recent Universal movies being produced during the then more recent years of the 30s and 40s.

Less focused on murderous intent and instead, leaning into a far more wacky crime spree after a MacGuffin that symbolises post-war greed and selfishness. Astutely pro-science but wary of its misuse, the film develops a preoccupation with the role and responsibility of the scientific community as guardians of future safety.

I take my hat off to Arrow Video once again for managing to liberate these two Daiei classics from their vaults and finally giving them the attention they deserve outside of Japan. Unfortunately, the original film masters for this and its follow-up have long since vanished, a testament to their age, and what we are left with is a film cobbled together from surviving 16mm exhibition prints. There are all the artefacts to be expected with old celluloid; hairs, scratches, and authentic film jitter, but for anyone purchasing these old movies that should be expected and are unobtrusive.

Writer and director, Nobuo Adachi, delivers a fundamentally threadbare affair, the characters themselves are laughable in places. Seriously, these criminals have an Invisible Man at their disposable and all they can think to use him for is stealing a necklace, which they ultimately fail at numerous times. But it doesn't matter too much in the long run given that it nails the basics of being an entertaining cops and robbers film interspaced with a multitude of science fiction elements and a multitude of red herrings along the way.

His direction however is pretty good, there's a heavy noir atmosphere as actors deliver lines with slashes of light across their eyes, while simple actions such as the Invisible Man smashing glasses and pots on the floor are caught with whipping camera movements and canted angles. Clichés of the age, sure, but the darker ambience adds a much appreciated dramatic flair to accentuate the emotional beats.

This film also marks a very early credit for special effects wizard, Eiji Tsuburaya and while very rough in their execution, probably not helped by the so-so picture quality of the film prints, they showcase his talents right from the get-go making it no wonder that he would go on to be such a success in his field. He recreates many of the iconic moments that we've seen done to death in popular culture and yet with its film noir style they take on a very different feel and meaning.

Overall, The Invisible Man Appears is a solid interpretation of the character in an entirely new setting, some good acting, memorable direction and some very 'of the time' music help cement this film as the very definition of a hidden gem.

Nothing new!

In the realm of "My Demon," the storyline didn't quite grab me, but the magic was in the leads. Let me break it down for you.

So, the plot? It felt a bit like a background character, not stealing the spotlight. I couldn't pinpoint a captivating narrative arc or thrilling twists that usually keep me on the edge of my seat. It was more like watching the leaves fall in autumn—pleasant but not exactly a gripping spectacle.

Now, before you think I'm dissing the whole thing, let's talk about the saving grace—the leads. Oh boy, they were the stars of the show. Their on-screen magic, the way they looked at each other—those stolen glances and electric moments—that's what kept me hooked. It was like watching a cozy fireplace on a chilly night, comforting and captivating.

I'll be honest; I stuck around for the leads. Their chemistry had this magnetic pull that overshadowed the lackluster plot. It was like having a front-row seat to a mesmerizing dance—you can't look away even if the dance floor isn't the most exciting.

The lack of a gripping plot didn't bother me as much because the characters were my anchor. I watched for their quirks, their banter, and the subtle nuances that made their connection feel real. It's like savoring a simple cup of coffee with a friend; you're not there for the coffee itself, but for the company.

In a way, it became my guilty pleasure. I knew the plot wasn't going to win any awards, but the charm of the leads kept me coming back for more. It's like having a favorite comfort food—it might not be gourmet, but it hits the right spots.

Now, could "My Demon" have benefited from a more robust storyline? Absolutely. A captivating plot would have been the cherry on top. But sometimes, in the vast world of shows and movies, you find these hidden gems where the characters shine so brightly that you overlook the plot's shortcomings.

In conclusion, "My Demon" may not have boasted a mind-blowing plot, but the leads made it a worthwhile watch. It's like a breezy weekend read—you're not dissecting every plot twist; you're there for the characters and the cozy atmosphere they create. If you're into character-driven stories and can forgive a plot that's a bit lackluster, give it a shot. It might just become your guilty pleasure, like it did for me.

Glimpse into Corporate Nastiness but Make it Professional

If you're looking for a corporate drama with a strong female lead, character development and a decent plotline, then this is for you!

You get your usual rivalry stories, tons of "i want to strangle this person" moments and bits of what the advertising world is like. It dabbles on mental health and a different character dynamics, but overall the focus is your female lead, Go Ah In and her journey in such a cut-throat realm.

Personally, I enjoyed the drama. Looking back on it, there's a chunk of plotholes that never get addressed or feel thrown in, but its not as jarring an effect on the drama. Perhaps its to emphasize how certain things come and go in the flurry of an ever-changing corporate world. I definitely recommend it if you're just looking for something new, dramatic but still up your alley for strong female lead.

Its an 8.5 from me ^^

"We are each other's destroyers, and saviours" - Do Do Hee

This K drama is perfectly done apart from parts of the story which felt like they didn't make sense but that aside I loved this K drama. The music was amazing, Visuals are outstanding as you can see from the poster, The outfits are the best I've seen from any k drama, every scene the male and female lead would have breath taking outfits and styles. The couple era in the k drama was absolutely adorable they gave me butterflies every time I saw them. The emotions were also portrayed so well you could literally feel the same things the characters were feeling as it grasps you into the story. The happy moments had me shouting in enjoyment. Highly recommend you to go check it out if you haven't, you wont regret it.

Friendship rules!

Honestly, at the first part with visiting the friend in hospital already set it up to be a sad movie, which I wanted to avoid because I came for comedy and friendship which the reviews were boasting about. The first roughly thirty minutes weren't that funny but I was still interesting to watch for the story unfolding and once it progresses to seeing how the girl's dynamics are with each other, the fights, the swearing and the dancing— it's all just really good and fun and heartwarming. They added a bit of romance which of course, this is Korean after all but it didn't take away any focus from the girls and I did end up feeling quite envious of their friendship near the end. There were many scenes I like to rewatch but to rewatch it entirely would be too hard with how sad the end was?

Over the top superhero cop thriller

Great stylish, anarchic, over-the-top, quasi-superhero-cop-thriller with typical Japanese sadistic/horror elements, a cast of hilariously evil characters, great production values and an amazing score. The acting is a mixed bag overall. More than solid J-Drama.

Kiriko is such a bad-ass, irritatingly epicene, gorgeous, inspiring heroic villain. The way Shibasaki Ko speaks, soft and muted yet delicately enunciating, absolutely hypnotizes me.

Takahashi Issei, in a slight deviation from his usual acting choices, manages the worn-out toughened-up physicality of this role as well as everything else he has done before, which is to say outstanding.
