What I like most about this drama is this there’s a lot of plot to keep it interesting till episode 16
The chemistry between the leads to is so good
And the way all characters executed their role is so perfect (especially the side characters)
I’m so impressed , I’m pretty sure majority of the viewers here won’t expect the show to be this good and interesting I’m suprised too hope they keep up the pace

My first two weeks of August 2023

There are soo little Korean dramas that I have had the intention to drop off. Extraordinary you since now occupies the first position. It costed me a kidney and my liver to finish it. I do not understand how it has an 8.4 as qualification. I simply do not understand. It is very repetitive. For all of us it is clear that she, the second FL Dan Oh (because the first FL is not important at all in all of the 32 episodes of the series!!!! Forgive the chakka Ju Da) was in love with a guy but then she has a new love and the new guy is going to help her. Ok, they are coming from a previous experience and it was a bad one, well, writer, give us all the first story and then the second story and I swear to you I understand who killed whom, you do not need to repeat such a scene six times!!!!! And then, at the end, you introduce an interesting character, Soo Hyang, you simply outline and it could have represented a better guide to the whole story. They all come from the previous Trumpet Creeper to this Secret opus but they are not connected at all at any time of the stories. Why???? All the characters are cartoon appearances for an episode not for that many. The chakka of this Kdrama is a cartoonist not a writer. This story could be told in just 4 episodes. 32 are a bunch of nonsense. These first two weeks of this August I will remember them as a wasted time watching this Extraordinary you. Extraordinary me for bearing it and extraordinary them for give such a high evaluation to something that is like a mass where you listen the same things over and over, week after week, year after year and to the infinite and over there...

We were rooting for you!!!!

Sigh. I really wanted this drama to not fall into the curse of being one of those dramas that should've had 12-13 episodes instead of dragging itself to a lousy 16 that ended up ruining the drama for me. Firstly, I loved the acting and the chemistry of the leads. The supporting cast was very cookie-cutter and replaceable, so I won't say much about them. They were boring to me.

Now, this drama presents itself as a romantic comedy at first that had a fun fast pace right from the bat. Where it falters is the need for it to become a melodrama from episode 12 onward. It is an abrupt change that feels forced and from there on all the characters basically repeat their actions over and over until the end, losing any pace it had before as a result.

The forceful need to have it be that one of the leads "needed" to die, instead of just ending with ML transforming into a human due to drinking a *bit* of FL's blood (would have been a perfectly good ending IMO, but no, let's force one of those ambiguous open endings on our viewers from what was meant to be a silly little rom-com about vampires.)

These scriptwriters and the director just couldn't pick a lane I guess. Wasted!

THRASH OF 2023

Writer: Producer-nim we have an interesting concept to make the drama on .

Producer : Okay Ms. Writer, let's proceed .

Writer after 2 months: Sir , I forgot to write the ending or any explanation regarding vampires plus the ML dies in the last episode.

Producer: Somebody bring me my shotgun.

Writer :Sir , before you shoot me , how about adding some thrash side characters , they would keep the gag in check ?

Producer: Good idea, now someone bring me a katana . 😡

WHAT A JOKE This drama was .
I skipped it post-episode 10 .
The worst drama of 2023 so far.
Zero chemistry b/w the leads.
Zero character development.

Wasting the talent of great actors like Ok Tec Yeon, Amazon should be ashamed of producing such dramas.

Only for the airplane's lovers and for Wang Kaï's hands fans :) :)

Journey of a FL (Seven) cargo pilot, transferred to passenger transport, despite the sexism / mysoginism of a flight director. Wang Kai, a seasoned pilot obsessed with safety, will take her under his wing and help her.
+ Interesting plot on paper and a very good casting.
+ the OSTs are good
+ lots and lots of plane blueprints : you learn a lot of details even if every is not accurate.
+ close-up on Wang Kai's hands in each episode (why this obsession with his hands????)
BUT :
- the story is poorly written: the 1st half of the drama is quite engaging: interactions Seven / Wang Kaï tense and intense, but the 2nd part is ENDLESS!
- super super slow romance (they got together only in the 38th episode /39) and very little skinship. Traumas, obstacles, hesitations, I don't mind, but this is really too much!!
- character of the excessive mother (with a strange and very fast treatment of her PTSD :) :) One wonders how traumas are treated in China...

In short, I only went to the end with skipping and because I like the 2 leads. Too bad the potential is wasted by a poorly written story.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emotional Rollercoaster

My thoughts after immediately finishing the drama. Just word vomit.

With all the suffering the ML goes through, his heart is still pure and true (even his master and Susu's Dad said so!!!), and yet in the end, he has to die and pay for sins he did not commit. I was hoping karma would do its magic and have him become a God after dying as the Devil T_T since the dragon in Bore's life indicated there's a fine line between him becoming a God vs Devil, meaning he could have become a God! I also got really upset that the evil do-ers didn't get what they deserved, while the good suffered. Also, it was so odd go the female lead kept going back and forth with her hate and love towards the ML. I'm like, if you believed in him, maybe he didn't have to become to Devil, but at the end you understand, this is his so-called destiny. Ugh, my heart.

It will make your Heart BREAK and not BEAT!

Warning: For those thinking to watch Heartbeat now - Do it At Your Own Risk.

This is me as the drama was announced: ❤️_❤️
This is me as the drama progressed and now ended: 😭😭😭😭😭

For the first time in my K-Drama watching history, I have not been so disappointed as today. Cause I honestly had high hopes for this drama, given the cast and premise. Even recommended to few friends and MDL-ers as I completed the initial 2-3 episodes (please forgive me). But the magnitude of disappointment is making me rant here so please bear with me 😭

I chose to watch an airing drama (big feat in itself) that continued to dip low as the series progressed. But I still thought - No, I have dropped too many dramas and I judge dramas too early - so let's keep watching and hope that it will get better. But it doesn't, week on week it got worse and I was watching this on 2x speed and then just fast-forwarding all together.

But man, that ending - worse than Bella Swan's character and acting in Twilight (and that's saying something).

> Story: 0 (wish I could mark the same in MDL)
> Acting: 7 - cannot blame the actors, they all did a good job - just that the script was terrible, hence the result was terrible.
But no fault of the skills of actor, I would still look forward to their other projects so that I can erase this terrible memory.
> Music/OST: didn't make any difference, cause with such bad writing even when it was good, it all lost meaning.

> Overall: 4/10 - and this 4 is just for the sake of actors.
> Verdict for Heartbeat: Skip it or you'll be filled with regrets like me.

The premise was so good which made me have great expectations as they could have done so much with the romance, comedy, fantasy and mystery elements. They had a decent cast and music as well - but nothing could save it because the writing/script is one of the worst ones I have come across. Like what were the writers eating/drinking that made them act like this??

I feel bad for Taec Yeon as I like him as an idol from 2PM days, and this was my first proper drama of his that I wanted to see. Also, Kim In Kwon - cause he is an exemplary actor! He is one of my favorite support actors, I means see that guy in Mr Queen (what a fine senior actor).

Personally, this drama is making me rethink that I need to continue staying away from airing dramas, and watch them only when it finishes. Binge-watching is better for my sanity and drama viewing. I am just so angry/sad/disappointed. Dramas are after all supposed to bring joy and not make me pull-my hair. Hence, anyone reading this - hope you have a fair idea what could be expected, please tread carefully in case you are planning to watch this drama. Better, don't and watch something else.

Life is too short and our schedules too busy otherwise - to waste time on bad dramas! Read More

Started Great, Ended Terribly!

I so rarely leave an actual review, but this drama made me so mad that I had to... This drama had so much potential, I thought it was great. About halfway through it started to get a bit boring, but I pushed through expecting a happy ending. This drama has basically been pretty comedic, so I thought no way we would get a sad ending... And then we don't even get a proper sad ending?!?! His death was so rushed and their was so little time spent on it... He just died and then we rush through a tiny funeral, and that's it. We end on a daydream that I think was supposed to be hopeful? Anyways very disappointed in drama, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Got me hooked from start till end

I wasn't expecting much when I first started watching but soon I was presently captivated by the story, acting , music and effects. I highly recommend watching this drama, definitely one of my favorite of all time.

All the dialogues are beautifully written with much emotion, each episode has plenty of events that keep you on your toes.
I look forward to the second season, I don't mind who the FL ends up with cause I like all of them.

I have a soft spot for XL character, amazing acting. All actors did great it's award winning worthy.

Only the ending was a letdown

I don't agree with most of the people who have a kneejerk reaction with the ending. I still think HeartBeat was good, but they chose to play the story straight instead of jumping the shark. This is, frankly, one of the few series where I'd have preferred the writers jump the shark to give the leads a happy ending, because they deserve it.

This series has one of the best written leads in K-dramas. Both In-hae and Woo-hyeol are absolute green flags, and they keep proving it over the course of the series. Their romance was of a slow-burn nature, built on understanding and wonderful communication. As a template for a great romance, their relationship is truly inspirational.

I do understand that most viewers aren't masochists. One of the worst mistakes that this series made was to market itself as a romcom - and while it was so over the first few episodes, it never really went away from reality. There's always human reality peering into their romance, even though it slowly and organically developed. The fundamental problem, I think, is with that dilemma that Woo-hyeol finds himself in, there's really no easy solution aside from leaning into even more fantasy, which might be tonally inconsistent with the series, but ultimately more sensible as it was branded as a romcom in the first place.

I do think that the ending is slightly more positive than what people think, because to me, Woo-hyeol returned to In-hae as a ghost (haunting only her). It doesn't change the fact that she's still human, but I think In-hae would be smart enough to have Woo-hyeol be exorcised as she'll be nearing her death (or ask help from the other vampires).

As a medical doctor, all realistic solutions fail because In-hae's blood would have to be sucked dry, and that will definitely kill her. I was hoping for some loophole that would allow them to do an exchange transfusion of sorts, but then that would take too much time and detract to the story. A more sensible solution (in terms of writing) would be for the curse to lift from Woo-hyeol as he showed an act of sacrifice for Do-sik's sake, perhaps reordering the world for the better. However, they chose to stick to their guns, which highlighted a pretty sad ending.

I'm still looking forward to picking up more clues with re-watching Heartbeat (as I have done so), but this remains to me a good series damaged by tonal inconsistency and a sad ending.

Disappointing...

I loved everything up until the last two episodes. The story was not the best and kind of draggy in some parts before that but I still enjoyed it so I didn't care.

Ep 15 was so boring, I could've skipped that entire episode. The last episode was better but the ending was very disappointing. The ending didn't make me feel any emotions at all, I'm not happy or sad, just disappointed. This whole drama feels like a waste of time and I kinda wish I stopped watching at ep 12.

I did enjoy most of the episodes so I might rewatch them! I'll never rewatch the whole drama tho lol...

Magnificent!!!

This is absolute gem, everybody need to watch it to be frank.

From the story to the cast, everything was just superb.

The story is so fun and engaging, there's no dull moment, everything is mixed together. The only problem is not to get addicted 😇.

The cast delivered beautifully, it's not like those dramas you'll complain you don't like the FL or ML,or those unnecessary misunderstandings, the leads are quite a joy to watch.

There's no need to hesitate, just go on and watch it,you won't be disappointed.

Personally, this is in my top ten wuxia dramas.

This drama became one of my most favorite costume C-drama

This drama's original novel was very well written, so I wasn't sure how it would come out as drama. But thankfully, original author is part of the screen writing, so drama is made as good as novel. Story of each main leads are well described and plots are made flawless. There are many scenes make you cry and sobs. Yet once in a while few plots make you laugh and lighten up your sad feeling. It is so well balanced for audiences to enjoy just like real human lives.

What surprised me is while I love this drama so much, there are reviews with very low rating and wrote full of hateful comments towards drama itself and performers. Boy, there are so many different types of ppl in the MDL world. I can accepts proper critiques about the drama, but I cannot accept the hates in any of drama introduced here at MDL.

And some of them are obvious that they didn't watched the drama, but they already have strong negative opinions about it and they wrote bad reviews. Some of them wrote that there were too many violences and torture scenes. This drama is a fiction and if these fictions do bother audiences, they have a right to stop watching. If this drama is not your cup of tea, they can leave. Viewers may dislike the characters, but one thing I don't understand is why such dislike become the hate towards actors? It's very strange behavior to me. It irritates me that these haters intentionally write bad reviews. I don't get it what do they gain by doing so? It's very toxic mind some carry in their brain and mind.

I hope you will not be influenced by hate comments or super negative comments. You are the only one can make own decision to watch this drama or not, Or you will like it or not.

A "must watch" to everyone.

I mean we don't need too many words to explain why this kdrama is a "must watch kdrama" to everyone who loves Korean shows... It's simply a perfect , realistic, romance between a North Korean man and a South Korean woman who passed though so many things to be together... In my vision, this is the most realistic Kdrama I've seen so far. It's a perfect fiction of what a romance with such difficulties would look like. it's beautiful to see their love over coming every difficult.
I recommend it to everyone who's looking for the perfect Kdrama hahaha.

Great concept, ultimately poor execution

At the outset this drama is a hilarious anti-TWILIGHT but halfway through the writers drop anything funny and past episode 12 they are phoning it in. I think if this had been a 10-12 episode drama they would have had less opportunity to muddle around and get lost. They would have executed on some of their concepts better too.

Joo In-hae being the reincarnation of Seon Woo-hyeol’s first love (and thus being able to open his coffin, having eyes that reflected him, etc.) while Na Hae-won is a dead ringer for his first love but ultimately a red herring was actually a great concept but was not fully elaborated on or sufficiently explored. Many of the other people I was watching with didn’t pick up on it.

Hae-won, Do-sik, and Man-hwi competing with each other because of their conflicting desires and goals with regards to In-hae and Woo-hyeol could have been done in a much more thoughtful and interesting way too. Instead it was rushed at the end.

And why couldn’t a smart woman like In-hae have defused her neighbors’ complaints about a vampire in the mansion by just saying “come on now, we all know that vampires aren’t real, what’s with you people?” I guess that would have required the writers to remember that their show was supposed to be funny.
