After losing both her parents, Failan emigrates to Korea to seek her only remaining relatives. Once she reaches Korea, she finds out that her relatives have moved to Canada well over a year ago. Desperate to stay and make a living in Korea, Failan is forced to have an arranged marriage through a match-making agency. Kang Jae is an old and outdated gangster who has no respect from his peers. Short on money, Kang Jae decides to take on the arranged marriage. Having nothing more than a picture of Kang Jae, Failan spends her days dreaming and wishing that Kang Jae would come to visit her. Failan often writes to Kang Jae in sorrow about how much she misses and thinks about him, but never has the nerve to give the letters to Kang Jae. Things take a turn when Kang Jae is asked by his boss to take the fall for a murder in exchange for some money. The only hope in his worthless life is the wife he never met. ~~ Adapted from the Japanese novel "Love Letter" by Jirō Asada. Edit Translation

Another masterpiece form Korea!!

I saw this movie when I was in early stage of exploration Korean movies. I didn't know what to expect from this. I watched this movie when my taste of movie was changing and it contributed very much in changing my movie taste. This is my favorite love story.

Failan has a very solid story. It’s a new kind of romance/drama story. At first glance it doesn’t look like a story which can grab you next to screen for 115 minutes and sometimes it is slow but believe me it has ability to grab you for almost 2 hours. It is a realistic story and after watching this movie many people will have a question about characters’ love.

The acting and cast is excellent. This movie is equipped with super talented Choi Min-Shik and Cecilia Cheung. Both are great and gave amazing performance.

And about ending…..I won’t say whether it is sad or happy but it’s one of the best endings I’ve seen so far. It is the most beautiful ending.

I’ve to say that this movie is not for everyone because it is really slow. But if you want to see a movie that truly touches your heart then this is the movie for you. This is really a great movie and any movie lover should watch this movie at-least once. This is highly recommended movie for those who seeks a different kind of story and new type of love story.

Story: A meaningful, well written story. Had lots of potential. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. However, the movie had too many unnecessary scenes, really slow, and quite draggy. This should’ve only been 1 hour in my opinion to cover all the bases. I don’t like the lengthy portrayal.

Cast: One of the strongest points in this movie. Cecilia Cheung nailed the role as always; she always proves to be a very versatile actress. Min shik was great as well. Other characters were great.

Music: not much to this
Rewatch value: by skipping unnecessary scenes, yes

Overall: It takes a lot for me to shed a tear when watching anything sad but this one definitely did it. A tearjerker with a great storyline. I recommend.
