As long as you suspend disbelief on some of the action; especially the ending, it is a very good; brutal action movie. As usual the stunts and fighting sequences were definitely fun to watch. From beginning to end, the action was there. But beware, if you seen the first, this is a little bit more gruesome than the last. It is definitely a martial arts fan's dream! If you are looking for anything other than action, you may want to skip this.

Story: I don’t want to give away too much so I’ll just make this brief. I prefer the first one better, most sequels don’t seem to live up to the expectation left from the first movie. This isn’t the case. It’s just as good and as if Azumi 1 and 2 are just one long movie despite the two year difference. It was corny at some parts but the fight scenes are just as good as the first.

Music: It’s just as I said for the first Azumi, “It wasn’t too modern or loud. It was quiet, in the background adding to what was going on.”

Cast/Acting: Another outstanding performance from Aya, making us believe she is an actual killer. This time we got to see more of Oguri Shun. And while this isn’t his best work he did a good job. Noble, yet willing to do what ever it takes to survive.

Rewatch Value: 8

Ueto Aya once again brought Azumi to life

I don't know what to say with "Azumi 2: Death or Love". As the title suggest, and if you've watched the first movie, this is a sad ending for the story of Azumi.

Movies with sequels usually fail to live up with the original film, Azumi 2 is one of those rare sequels that was equal to or even surpassed the first film. The production was great and the background music were at the right scenes. The story was great, now that the background or introduction was out of the way, this sequel concentrated on Azumi and her hidden conflict inside: Death or Love.

Both movies are highly recommended. In fact, these two movies are closely tied-in together, it was as good as a single film. I'm glad they did not follow this up with another sequel "Azumi 3" because that would more likely not be at par with "Azumi" and "Azumi 2", though of course it would be great to see Azumi in action again.

And this is where I give Ueto Aya the highest praises, she was able to pull the exact same fierceness and one-mindedness when her character is in killing-mode. She did not force it, it was natural as if she was Azumi. Aya was born to bring Azumi alive.

Another perfect 10.

P.S. Time period aside, it would be an epic match if Azuri and Hitokiri Battousai met.

As good of a A Masterpiece from Japan as Azumi (2003)!

Another Masterpiece from Japan, actually better than Azumi (2003)!

This movie is available in several languages, including English...

The cinematography is as GREAT in this film as the original! You feel that you are back in the days when the movie took place ...
kudos to the wardrobe people again!

In the first movie, Azumi (Japanese actress Ueto Aya) is an orphan who is found by the master training assassins, who goal is to kill the main warlords who continue killing, raping and plundering the innocent people of the time period. Nagara (Ishigaki Yuma) is the only other survivor from the first movie, and he joins her in attempting to complete their mission: assassinating three powerful warlords in order to bring peace to the poor, suffering masses who bear the brunt of the warlords' pillaging.

This one was slightly better than the first, with the remaining team members beginning to show empathy and emotion aorund the ceaseless killing they are involved in.

However, a "thorn" appears in the guise of a friend and hurts the team's ability to complete their mission. You will see what happens when you watch the movie!

It is pure action from end to end, with tidbits of emotional moments in between.

Again, the sword fight scenes are well-choreographed and dd to the overall effect of the movie!

Likewise all of the support staff , new and old, effectively played their parts and backed Ueto Aya's performance, giving this second edition a "thumbs up"from me.

RE-WATCH - you bet!

Worst than the first one

I like Azumi character and i try to like the movie. It is ok for a dull afternoon or a rainy night...
my review is almost the same as the review of the first Azumi movie.

STORY – the story is the continuation of the first one, but not as interesting. Power struggle between 2 factions. The notion of honour and personal sacrifice for a better collective outcome. Tenkai against Sanada. Doppelganger Nashi and filthy and ugly adversaries to the astonishing beautiful and sexy Azumi.
ACTING – did not like Azumi’s fighting scenes and the adversaries were less interesting than the first movie. The choreography was boring for me, and I prefer samurai movies than marvel superheroes…

MUSIC – I really did not pay attention, so I think it was not so special to me. The ending music was good.

REWATCH – I do not think I will. Mostly because the fight scenes were not good enough and the plot was not so dense.

OVERALL – the end of the story, with boring choreography and characters.
