Who cares about critics when a movie can represent someone's life on the big screen.
"Bokura in Gohan wa Ashita of Matteru" has a common but well written story with a perfect chronological narrative.
The genre bending comedy is also present, I loved it, it's not every day we see women taking initiative and picking on heavy and men doing light and domestic things, based on a novel by Maiko Seo, "Our Meal for Tomorrow" by Masahide Ichii is another unconventional romantic drama.
In the cast we have Ryota Hayama (Yuto Nakajima), high school student (Nakajima is a member of the popular boy boy Hey! Say! Jump), but is a lonely and sensitive when the movie begins. Then a girl from her class, Koharu Uemura (Yuko Araki), asks her to partner with her in a sack race ...

The story also features twists of often-seen plots, both medical and romantic, though their treatment of them is more original than normal.
"Bokura no Gohan wa Ashita de Matteru" is a love story any but for me it is one of the most impressive and cute I have ever seen. It's worth watching!

This is a very beautiful story about two people who were very much opposites and how their relationship progresses.
I love how straight forward the female lead(Koharu) is on doing everything which also goes to show how strong her character is.
Then here comes the male lead (Ryota) who is very quiet and unique, always on his own little world.
The romance going on between them was just the perfect mix of awkward, sweet, clumsy and weird.
This is a good story of how those two comes to know how they really feel and what they should do for their feelings to be conveyed to the other person as well as trusting the love they had for one another.
They were both weird! And that also worked for me
THEY WERE SO CUTE! The romance was very natural and relatable cause I can imagine it happening in real life!!!
So please give me more movies like thissss!

Simple, mundane and intimate.
The movie was "banal" in a good way.Their misfortunes therein were not exaggerated, nor was their special bond overdramatized.
The leads chemistry felt effortless and ordinary, which made them feel like a real couple. Consequently, their romance felt genuine and natural.
This particular story did not need to overshare each aspect of their relationship. Instead, it focused more on the commonality of the little "meaningful" details that make their love feel as familiar -and comforting- as that bowl of rice they share in their daily life together.

The film is a coming of age story that best sums up "YOLO", you only live once. You enjoy the little things and remember that time waits for no man, be happy that you have today because you might not have tomorrow. Be happy you can remember who you love and celebrate them because who else will the following day.
Therefore, despite this pervasive sense of doom in the dialogue; there's a battle at the same time. The battle is coming from the brightness in the cinematography and it's also in the speed in which they have Koharu (female lead) deliver her lines. She delivers it so fast as though she wants to be done with these discussions on death and gloom. But she talks on family and growth you see her speak in a softer tone.
So we have her a bright light falling in love with someone who is dealing with serious issues. Someone she's loved for a very long time. In almost every scene he (Ryota) comes across very dark. Ryota's hair is very dark, his clothing is very dark, he speaks in a monotone, he speaks very slowly, and he's not engaging. He's unapproachable. His nickname is Jesus Christ and I sat and wondered why, then I realised it's because it seems that he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.
As the movie progresses, you barely see that you've already fallen in love with the couple and the story line. You've fallen in love with the regret and pain.

I'm going to end this review with a reason why I gave this Jfilm a 7. It will start off with a quick caveat on what Japanese dramas/films mean to me and then what happened here. I love, love, love, love, love Jdoramas and Jfilms. You can go to my profiles and see me waxing poetics. Thanks dad. I was raised on them and so I love them.
I normally give them high scores, this could be because of pure bias (WHICH IT IS NOT!). It's actually mainly because I know I'm going to get quality. ALWAYS, quality.
By the way, make no mistake, there was quality here. That wasn't why it was a 7.
The other thing about Jdoramas and Jfilms and this unlike the always compare Kdramas - (not Kfilms ---those are good). You know what you're getting. If you are going to get family, romance, tragedy, human, work, coming of age, bromance, sisterhood, etc. drama. You know you will get that in a drama. Even in a kdrama, they find some kind of way to put some kind of tears and sadness in a damn romantic comedy. Why? Why? It's a bloody romantic comedy. Keep it light. Keep it light. Sorry...my rant.
This wasn't any of those things. I knew I was signing up for sadness and tears. I knew I was going to have my moment in the sun where it would be to hard for me to bare. I accepted, welcomed, and wanted that. I felt cleansed because the actors were brilliant.

What's the problem and they scored so low? Damn soundtrack. What kind of music was used for this drama? It was sort of rocky and stuff and I hated it. This is such a sad story and then they put such a shitty song. Ugh, have mercy. Yup, the song was ranked so low (4.5) it brought down the whole thing. Not to mention, I don't really put sad stories high on my re-watch list. I'd have to be in a really depressed mood for that to happen. I ranked that at a 7.

When I try recollecting everything I remember about the movie, all I can remember is the scene where she breaks up him. In retrospect, that's probably the only scene where we, the audience, really see REAL emotions from either of the actors (or from the actresses' part, the decided lack of emotions). It was a pretty heartwrenching scene, and probably the only place I felt the actors did a decent job.
The rest of the movie sort of...blurs. I really can't seem to remember any tangible moment in the movie, even though I probably watched during my J-movie marathon a month ago. A MONTH ago. I can remember entire 20 episode dramas from 2 years that really made an impact on me, which suffice to say, this movie didnt.
Overall, it's eh. Harmless, but unless you have absolutely NOTHING to do, I would move on to greener pastures.

Decent but slow
I am not a fan of slow stories. I don't mean just that it could take a while for the leads to get together, but stories where just everything is SLOW. The characters are slow to speak...they think a lot...just slow. This drama is that. Everything is slow. It's not bad or anything. Just found myself frustrated at the pace. The characters are fine, but even their conversations are often slow.I like the male and female leads together but there are times where they don't communicate well and that is frustrating as well. They break up for a time (normal in most dramas or movies) and I ended up ff part of that time because I was just needing the story to move on.

The writer/s also did a good job connecting the two characters. i like how they complement and sometimes contrasts each other. and also love the way the complexities of the relationship was shown from the beginning til the end. the lines are so good too; lost young people like me would relate 10/10 to both of them. A+ for the chemistry! not much skinskip or cheesy worthy scenes but us them being together made their chemistry oozed (hahaha).
Indeed, a heart warming watch. a perfect mix of not being too complicated, too sad, too happy, and too cliche *.* love this! just the right movie for my mood right now~
PS: if you totally didn't like this, i suggest to close the tab and get back on this when you're in the right mood for this movie. a second chance won't hurt!

I (I think a whole world) need a man like Ryota who accept the woman he love no matter what happened. Well, this movie is really heartwarming. Although the theme is quite serious, but they packed it with a sweet and simple way.
The casts’ acting are great too, especially Araki Yuko when she cried at the hospital roof top. And I can’t imagine how hard for Nakajima Yuto to run with carry the Colonel Sanders’ statue (^o^;)
This movie makes me wanna eat KFC (︶▽︶)

- pure and innocent teen love
- engaging storyline
Anyway, the effigy of Colonel Saunders of KFC helped them to have a more lasting relationship. CUTEEE!! :)
VERDICT _ Ryota loved Koharu wholeheartedly that he married her anyway despite her inability to have children. Ahhhh
I personally LOVED this film even with its minor flaws.
P.S Most memorable frm the movie is the way he says to her grandma to "eat up since we all have to die someday" - the headline of the movie!
