Once in a while you get those films where you can just simply watch it. No angst, no forced laughter, no tears but just sit through it and feel refreshed just watching it? This movie is one of them. This is one of the most refreshing stories I've ever watched. The story was simple, with a simple message. How coming back to your own roots is actually helpful. This gives a certain feel of nostalgia too. It definitely reminded me of my own grandmother's house and how she did everything from scratch.
Being from the suburbs and living more than half of my life in the city, seeing such simple-ness was very refreshing for me. Part of me almost wanted to go and live there. Give up everything and just go to a village and farm and live. Then again it made me think, after being brought up in the city can we actually do that? I was jealous of Hae-won through out the movie. She had a place to return to and most importantly she knew how to return and live their comfortably.
I really wish there is another movie for this like the Japanese adaption of this because for some reason I felt this movie deep within. It was beautifully and artistically done.
One of the best films to just watch during summer, alone on the verandah, with a cool drink and a snack at hand. (Stressing on the snack cuz believe me this movie makes you want to eat)

I would love to watch this movie all over again!

I love that the movie fells so relaxing, is hard to explain but you feel light (and maybe you will feel a need to plant everything)
The characters were so natural, the three of them, and realistic, very good acting.
Another thing was the story, simple and perfect, and the way that talk about harvest season, it was very poetic, and very good incluing the food that she makes with the memories and the season.

The music was fine, but I prefer the sounds of nature.. perfect!
Omg was very good movie.

This movie is very lighthearted, refreshing and relaxing. The plot is smooth and not even a pulse pounding. The cinematography is eye-catching with the harmony of nature and the taste of food that blends to create a life of simplicity and solitude. It is inviting you to come back home and reminisce the best of your childhood memories.

Little forest made me realize that it is okay to get tired from the difficult life we have and more than okay to take a break, review our goals, plan the next step, and never give up.

A must watch movie for those feeling drained and hungry.

Caution: grab something to eat while watching this movie because you'll be mesmerized by the food shots.

As a lot of people named it - refreshing, lively is what this movie is. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing with the eye-catching cinematography, but the story itself is very calming and warming. It's simple yet nostalgic. For me, it's probably because I'm also from a small town and I'm moving to a huge city very soon. This movie made me fall in love with the message it sent out - you always come back and feel your absolute best in your childhood home. The cooking scenes were shot with such art, I really want to start making homemade food now! The main character was quite relatable and she reminded me of someone I know personally. The lead female is somehow inspiring, to be honest. I fell in love with the simplicity of her character. The supporting cast was lovely too. They added the right amount of spice to this movie. However, I wanted something more intense to happen between all of the characters. On the other hand, I think that the directors wanted to focus on completely different things rather than a cheesy romance or failing to maintain relationships. That's what makes this movie unique - it puts off all of the stereotypes that you'd except from a Korean movie. To add to this film, the soundtrack was ordinary but very fitting and calming - definitely a nice touch!

A great movie to enjoy before bed, seriously. It captured the modern countryside life realistically and left me nostalgic and my head full of memories about my hometown. It's a "feel good" movie, so go and watch it! But make sure to grab a snack because you'll get very hungry!

A healing, soothing, and relaxing movie. This doesn't really have any conflict but I didn't get bored at all. The movie tells struggle in the city, relationship between mother and between friends, also a hint of love story that I believe we all have experienced.
Little Forest shows daily life in countryside, what to eat daily, and how everything is made from scratch. A getaway from our city's daily life.
That's the concept so don't expect any dramatic conflict, okay?
I really enjoyed this and felt so peaceful afterwards, even I couldn't stop smiling because the main character looks so happy she's back home, back to the nature. A movie I'd recommend to relieve stress. Will I rewatch this? Totally yes.

Hit pause on the turning point.

This movie is a gentle reminder that it’s okay to just take a moment to breathe and figure yourself out - be it a day, month or a year. There is no point in chasing after things that do not bring you peace and happiness. Yes, you still need to deal with your responsibilities, you need an income to support yourself financially, but that does not mean you need to desire and want what everyone else strives for. We are all different, with different motivations and needs. One person enjoys a fast paced environment, someone else needs more calmness in their surroundings. There are no right and wrong answers in how to live your life, as long as you are not hurting others.

And that’s basically what the movie is about - Hye Won putting her life on pause as she tries to figure out what she truly wants, and if the goal she was trying to reach so far is what she truly desires. She reconnects to her roots, reignites her old friendships and slowly learns about her mother’s decisions in the past - understanding things she was not able to understand when she was younger.

What Little Forest offers is comfort and warmth. Beautiful scenery and amazing short cooking scenes. A message that simple life is meaningful. That making amends with your past is the way to move forward, even if it means starting from the beginning.

Additionally, we get an amazing cast delivering perfect performances. Honestly speaking, the movie is Kim Tae Ri’s, and Kim Tae Ri’s only. She carries the whole film. She fits the rural slice of life genre so well, I would have no issue watching a full 16 episodes show based on Little Forest.

Overall, big recommendation for anyone who loves a calming slice of life content with few cooking scenes that will make you hungry.

This whole movie is very satisfying and fulfilling to watch. It is an extraordinarily simple story with simple depiction of a life of a young girl belongs from a rural countryside. With much dreams and aspirations she came to Seoul but life gradually started to become mundane and monotonous. One day she decided to go for an excursion to her birthplace and found out she was actually getting fascinated towards the simple living.

There wasn’t anything much to do rather than farming, cooking, eating and sleeping. She tried to remember her mother’s cooking and tried those recipes and ate wholeheartedly.

Little Forest actually portrays the backward linkage of interdependence, which means not necessarily city life can only provide or satisfy to meet one’s end and not necessarily fast living is the only way to satisfy ambitions. However, ordinary, slow paced living can also be satisfying in the countryside. It is alright to live just by sleeping, eating and doing simple jobs. Not everyone in the world has to be shackled within corporate lives or unhealthy competition mostly city life has to offer. Living in the tranquil nature and having only what the nature has to offer can also be more than sufficient as well as sustainable rather when people eventually get detached from their root from their birthplace they start to lose their identity, individualism and most importantly simplicity.

The film was set in four different seasons: Fall, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Every season’s characteristics were nicely captured. Seasonal fruits and vegetables were also highlighted more or less since the protagonist had to prepare her food based on different seasons. The sounds of nature were also carefully incorporated such as the sound of cricket, rustling sound of paddy field due to breeze touching them and so on. The surrounding scenery were also picturesque enough to create pleasant mood in the viewers’ mind.

Moreover, friendship among the two childhood friends with the protagonist also played a significant part in the movie. Their joviality, warmth and mischievousness were pretty interesting to watch.

Kim Tae Ri, Jin Ki Joo and Ryu Joon Yeol played their role exactly what is necessary without any exaggeration. It felt like they naturally and smoothly blended themselves along with the story, rather than acting they were playing their own lives. Very well enacted.

Overall Little Forest creates rejuvenating and soothing effect. No swashbuckler just an aberration for finding solace among myriad of intricate problems is what a girl rediscovered for herself integrated with nature, food and farming is the main theme of this film.

If you want to feel calm and relaxed by watching something light-hearted yet satisfying then give this movie a shot.

One calm movie

This is heart warming movie, tell a story about a girl that sick of a life in city & she decided to back to her small hometown & live there for a period of time, healing herself & re-build the relationship with her neighbor & friends.

If you also kinda sick with the life in the city, with all the hardship in the big city & all the stuff the big city can offer you. You can take a peek of what kind of life the little village can offer you.

This movie have very calm environment that can bring peace to your soul. No conflict or anything in the movie, just like Booklover_95 wrote in her/his review: "No angst, no forced laughter, no tears but just sit through it and feel refreshed just watching it." Really one movie to heal your head from all the problem you have in your real life & enjoy the ride for this movie

The one point about this movie for me that I don't too like. The time is so damn slow.... Even after watch it with double speed still so damn slow for me.... But if you want to watch something refreshing & for playing in the background this movie can be your choice. But in the end to watch this kind of movie sometimes still quite good & refreshing for our soul....

This is all about finding yourself and what really matters in your life despite all the hardships you're going through. It's a simple acknowledgement of the seasons and how it impacts our life. One can choose to appreciate what each season can offer or be blind to it and continue to complain. It shows how nature can be both beautiful and treacherous as well. It's just a great movie of breathtaking scenery, beautifully presented dishes and true friendship. My only complaint is the lack of romance development. Aside from that, it's worth your time.

A visual feast.

Such a great feel-good movie. Every time I watch it I just want to run away to the country and live a simpler life, and I have re-watched this movie several times now.

It is about nourishing your body, your mind, and your heart. About forgiveness, acceptance, belonging, and peace.

The setting is gorgeous and just brings a sense of peace and joy to watch it. I have also watched the Japanese version (the original movie) and find this version to have improved upon the original. This one delves a little more into real emotions and relationships. The recipes are also better on this one ^_^. I tried making some of the recipes from both movies and liked the results of this one better (though the chestnuts in syrup from the Japanese movie came out really good also).

Just love everything about this movie.

I enjoyed this slice of life story. Hye Won was going through a quarterlife crisis. She's struggling to know what she really wants to do with her life after failing her teacher's exam. She's also still feeling abandoned by her mother. She heads back to her home town and through some memories of her mother and time with her friends she finds the answers she needs.

What I loved the most about the film is the storytelling through food. So many interesting dishes. Things I would definitely try and some I wouldn't. The cabbage pancake with egg looked strange but somehow delicious. I am always envious of people who can cook and especially cook from scratch. I loved those scenes the most.

The cast is really good to. I particularly loved the performance of Moon So Ri, the actress playing the mother of Hye Won.

countryside slice of life movie full of nice looking food

Little Forest - 8,5/10 -kmovie

slice of life movie full of simple food making and countryside lifestyle.
I quite enjoyed seeing how big is difference in cuisine and got feel that even I can try out some of these simple dishes.

this movie got alot of vibe like dramas :Summer Strike: or :When weather is fine: but it does better. May be cause its movie so you dont feel that drama being slow.

No much of romance here, but still worth to watch.

plot - FL runs away from stressed life of big city back to her home countryside. She begins live countryside daily life just as when she was small kid, before she decides what to do with her life.

genre- slice of life, cooking, countryside
