In my opinion, this is a movie about what a desperate brother with great abilities with the bow and arrow will do to save his little sister. This is not about loyalties to your country, or the greater good. This is about a last promise made to a father and the blind need to protect the sister you raised as your daughter.

I liked and enjoyed this movie. I like well made action movies and this one did a wonderful job with their action scenes. The scenery was incredible and the story was interesting enough. The characters and depth of the story I felt was lacking a bit of weight, but overall I felt it was all well acted and made.

The movie is 2 hrs+, but I did not feel it. That time is mostly made up with the action. I had honestly never watched a movie in which arrows were central to the story. This movie did an amazing job with it.

I recommend it if you like fast paced action movies, have a couple of hours to spared.

First let me explain how and why I started watching The Ultimate Weapon. I've been studying ancient Chinese history in the last few weeks and so last night I was in the mood to watch a few Ancient Chinese historical movies. This movie is set in Korea, with the Manchu's (who form the Qing Dynasty in China) try to invade Korea in 1936. So I started watching this movie and my review is below:

Story 7/10: I enjoyed the beginning very much, but after that it started going downhill for me. The middle dragged on and on, lots of arrows were flung around. The ending wasn't my type of ending either. It was definitely a twist but not one I enjoyed.

Acting/Cast 9/10: The acting itself was superb, but the characters felt really undeveloped to me. Especially the sister.

Music 9/10: I can't complain about the music. It was ok, conveyed the mood decently. Other than that though, it wasn't memorable.

Rewatch Value 3/10: I don't really rewatch movies or dramas, but this movie in particular I would not rewatch ever.

Overall 6/10: It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. If you want an action packed historical thriller with a very simple plot, then this is the movie for you.

Who would've thought arrows would be so interesting. First and foremost the story was definitely unique and the cast did an amazing job with their characters. All the characters had a chance to shine & withstand the turbulence in their life. The fight scenes was exceptionally well done & the scenery added an extra dash of awesome. All in all the movie was great & well done.

Must watch movie for students

War of the Arrows (2011) is not simply a movie or an entertainment or a timepsss event, but essential knowledge for the survival of humanity. The movie tells the meanings of dedication, love, evils of war and goodness. All students must watch it in their understandable language.
I am unable to find any fault in War of the Arrows (2011); acting of the actors, the actress and the enemy are truly praiseworthy. It has very-very simple story, but direction is highly marvelous.
It is not a 'family' movie, but has great teachings for students.
Thanks for making this type of masterpiece!

One of the best action movies from SoKor!

I never get tired re-watching this movie, as it still gives me goosebumps and leaves me on edge whenever I watched it. Fast phase, amazing actors, great executions of fight scenes and just simply one of the best for me. No boring scenes, every scene is needed so you must watch it. Worth the time to watch it, been watching it for the Nth time, my go to movie aside from Man from Nowhere and Roaring Currents. I miss having an older brother, as sad to say my brother died 2 years ago. And this film shows how much a brother loves his sister and would do anything for him.

STORY:
Loved the concept of arrow being the main weapon within the film (a first for me to see) and sorta reminded me 'House of flying Daggers'.
Sad to see the ending but truly went down magnificently with that sweet curl. And most of all i loved that the female roll always stood up and fought instead of expecting to be saved and protected like other films

ACTING:
Cannot speak against any of the actors for their all potrayed their characters well

waste of time

Lack of historical accuracy for the Great Qing ruling domination which should be honoured. Another mistake movie.
There is no plot, there is no development, no mood, no tension. No development for characters or the non-existent plot.
Only arrows casually fleeding everywhere. Action package casually with no logical sense.
A waste of time that i won't ever recommend to anyone. Except if you want to fry your brain... it's a full nonsense with bland characters not even possible to define it.

Positives:

- The screenplay is gripping from the very first sequence.
- The action sequences are some of the best ones you would've ever seen in a South Korean action film.
- The visual effects are top notch and other technical aspects too are highly impressive.
- Park Hae-il delivers the best performance out of all, while Ryu Seung-ryong too is impressive as others.
- The editing is absolutely perfect.
- The film has no vulgarity or obscenity and can be seen with the whole family.
- The tension during archery sequences is very well built.
- The film has a lot of crowdpleasing and clapworthy moments.

Negatives:

- Nil.

Repeat value: Yes

WAR OF THE ARROWS is simply and definitely the best period action film I've seen from South Korea.
