Karma was absent for 90% of this series. Romance decided not to show up at all and social reasoning and common sense responses/reactions was often napping while filming.
Again I wouldn’t recommend this to a mature person, it would be appalling and ridiculous to them. If you can stomach clingy females, ridiculous reasoning, wishy washy people and whinny bits you’ll like it, however for me this was a big No no.

I loved every single scene between Chen Bo Lin and Zhang Tian Ai as the main characters Zhou Erwen and Li Nanen. Zhou Erwen is a serious, principled, and stubborn genius working determinedly on an ecological project with Gao Mu, Wu Suowei, and Yu Buji. He frequently makes decisions on his own, alienating his teammates. When Li Nanen goes to France to study architecture, she meets the four of them and it becomes her goal to join their project. Li Nanen is lively, upbeat, and relentlessly pursues her dreams. Although Li Nanen and Zhou Erwen's personalities initially clash, they learn from and inspire each other. Their relationship develops at a great pace with so many heartwarming moments. That's not to say there weren't obstacles between them—there are MANY, including some classic c-drama tropes (sigh)—but I had faith that they would be able to overcome everything. They thoroughly won me over and I would rewatch all their scenes.
Aside from the two leads, I liked every major side character except for one: Wan Wei. She's awful from start to finish, and I'm warning you so you don't get your hopes up about her. I liked the project team members; their relationships with each other were nuanced and sometimes tense. There are also multiple side couples, exploring how love isn't always enough, how people can change (for better or worse), and how sometimes you only love the idea of someone.
Surprisingly, there was a lot of action in this drama, like scientific espionage and corporate scheming. It definitely helped build urgency and kept the drama moving at a fast pace. In the last five episodes, I thought (and hoped) things would wind down but it was dramatic all the way until the very end.
Also, just want to mention that since much of the drama takes place in France, there is a lot of French spoken. I have no idea if the French lines were written or spoken well, or if the translations were accurate.

Boyfriend calls you stupid? Fine.
You think the other is cheating on you? Fine.
The other person is in love with someone else. Fine. I’ll go after them anyway.
We’re supposed to root for the female lead when she tries to get into an established relationship the later we’re supposed to cheer for her again when someone is trying to break up her established relationship.
Yeah, this makes no sense,
The actors are capable, but the characters make no sense, There are a couple of cute moments, but really there are better shows out there.

Pros:-CHEN BOLIN. PERIOD.
-The architectural biology they got going. Really fresh idea and I feel like the writers really went out their way to study about it.
-France! They really did so well shooting in france. The scenes looked so pretty I wish they didn’t have to move back to China. But oh well. (they also did a good job with the foreign actors)
-The actors portrayed being scientists really well, they don’t look awkward.
-Vivienne. LOL Against popular opinion, I think the writers did well in making her character consistently evil. And she’s so pretty
Cons:
-From where the writers did a good job in researching and writing about the scientific stuffs, they lacked in the general script. Sometimes the scripts didn’t even make sense. They were also not able to bring out the right emotions out of the scrip, it felt bland tbh.
-The characters were so inconsistent. Only Zhou and Vivienne’s characters were consistent. Well, if you add Gao Mu consistently being played around by everybody, I guess him too.
-The romance was terrible. It was so messed up it felt painful to watch. Only Zhou’s love for Nanen was real tbh. And sometimes the romance went against normal moral standards. I mean when Gao Mu pursued Nanen tight after he just made up with Zhou who went out his way to tell him they’re brothers and who was clearly going out with Nanen; I MEAN BRO’s CODE??? ANYBODY? That’s just messed up.
It was kinda sad because it could have been better with a storyline like that and the theme. It was fresh and really nice but the other scenes dragged it onnnnn. Maybe fewer episodes could have been better and maybe if they only focused on the romance of the main leads then it could have been more focused. Too much focus towards Zuma and Wu was tiring. The first conflict where they separated for a year was enough but the next after that was just plain stupid and immature. I don’t even want to say about Vivienne’s romance LOL. If you watched it, you know. But still I can forgive all this for Chen Bolin and his smiles and dimples. Hahahahaha
Would I recommend it? If you like Chen Bolin then yes. ?
Would I watch it again? NOPE. I’d rather find other Chen Bolin series to gawk at.

If you like France, it’s worth a look.
So this show is 50 episodes. Be prepared. I enjoyed the first half, but once they left France, the story really really dragged.First off, I never could understand why the father decided to steal his son’s work. It really wasn’t ever clearly explained. And he was willing to even commit murder to make it happen. The murder was left unresolved and basically never investigated in France. And once the murderer died, well that part of the plot just never came back.
The timeline was also very confusing. So I guess they were in France for a year and then Zhou was lost for a while and then they were in China, but then at the end Zhou mentions it’s been 3.5 years since he met Nanen. That both seemed too long and too short. I’m not sure the writers knew what they wanted.
The second leads drove me crazy. Zu Ma was annoying, but was actually pretty decent once she got on with Nanen’s brother. But of course she had to end up with her first beau... and they just did not work together as a couple. They were much better off as individuals. Vivienne was a whole other case of awful.
I liked the actors. I loved the idea of them all working to a clear goal together for the betterment of the environment. I really enjoyed that the first half was set in France (and it appeared to have actually been filmed there.) But the story itself and the characters were a bit all over the place and I found myself not liking all of them for things like lacking basic communication skills. And the story at times just didn’t make sense to me. I couldn’t ever figure out why a lot of the things happened. And as cute as the leads are, they don’t actually spend very much time together.

So i just finished it 5 minutes ago and im writing this review because unexpectedly i enjoyed the whole drama..Story: As you've know this story is about science and i don't know anything about it but watching them thru the whole drama i kind of relate to what they aspire. Trying to help the deteriorating environment by researching and finding ways to ease the burden of future generations.
Acting: At first i only watched this drama because of Zhang Tianai but her chemistry with the whole cast is outstanding. They all did great and also kudos to the actress playing Wan Wei she made me really annoyed with her antics..
Music: Ohhh. You have no idea how much i love the music here... Therapeutic......... 11/10
Rewatch Value: Probably will rewatch Zhou Erwen and Li Nanens sweet scene.
The best thing about i liked about this drama is how they display the problem about being in a relationship. It has ups and down. Its not enough that you like each other. It takes guts to maintain a relationship. You have to understand and give each other personal space in a way one doesn't feel left out. And also it did not go to the usual trope where the 2nd male lead Gao Mu has to be a bad person. He stayed to be the core of High Level Animal Society. He wasn't influenced by her evil girlfriend and they did not dwell much on love triangle. BTW, special mention to Li Nantian for being the best friend Zu Ma can have.
If you like a stable drama (never mind the french dialogue) that will not left you hanging. Oh by the way if anyone happens to read my review please prepare yourself for the episode 19 up to 24. I was mind blown by the happenings there.
Cheers to HIGH LEVEL ANIMAL SOCIETY for completing Paradise. ❤️
