My favourite BL Drama of all time

This has to be my favourite BL drama of all time. I keep rewatching at least twice a year since it came out. I don’t like that some people under rated this drama on review just because of the ending.

I believe that some people are failing to understand the message here, which is we going to lose people we love in life it’s inevitable, we can’t always have a happy ending it’s all fantasy but in reality people leave by death or break up.

I loved everything about this drama, the music 🎶 Cast, pairing, cinematography and characters storyline. This was a Masterpiece. Absolutely loved it 🤍

OMG

The ending absolutely broke my heart. I cant listen to Liquid Mirror by Philip Daniel without bursting into tears. Yes thats how much their end affected me. I really wish they would come out with a second part & a happy ending for them. Let him remember all of a sudden & search for him. Something happy. I think dramas should enclose something in the description stating a sad/painful ending. I love my BL Dramas but these sad ending ones arent good for me. Doesnt everyone want a happy ending? Other than this i loved it until the end.

I’ll just go ahead and write my review for HIStory seasons 1-4 as one review (including both of the season 3 stories).
Season 1 – this is actually just 3 completely unrelated stories. “My Hero” is a supernatural film that is really just kind of weird. Hero’s girlfriend is mistakenly taken by the angel of death and in an effort to keep her soul on earth with Hero, he shoves her into the first available body who happens to also be in love with Hero. “Stay Away from Me” is better and deals with a taboo of new step-brothers who develop feelings for each other and a friend who desperately wants them to be together. “Obsession” is even better and actually rather well written even though there is a supernatural element to it as the lead dies and wakes up alive 9 years earlier. “Obsession” is the only episode in Season 1 that actually opens up the physical side of BL dramas. It’s clear that the writers got better with each episode. Thankfully the remaining seasons were not like this.
Season 2 – This season is 2 separate stories broken into 4 episodes each. Episodes 1-4 are called “Right or Wrong” and involve a professor/student relationship. Episodes 5-8 “Crossing the Line” are about a volleyball team manager and his junior he recruits to play for the team due to his natural ability. The relationship that develops between them is sincere and set at a good pace for only being 4 episodes. There is also another step-brother relationship in this one (this seems to be a favorite theme among the HIStory writers as we will see it yet again in Season 4).
Season 3 – “Trapped” is a hate turned love story between a goofy police officer and a super hot mob boss who is trying to get his outfit to go legit. There’s a secondary love story between a gun for hire and another police officer that’s also really cute. This one has a good looking cast, mostly decent acting, and a good storyline. However, the very final scene leaves you a bit unsatisfied and wanting to know what will happen in the future. Perhaps they will do a follow up season with this one at some point.
Season 3 – “Make Our Days Count” is both my favorite season and my least favorite season. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but get your tissues ready because you WILL cry. While Song Wei En and Huang Juan Zhi are the main couple in this series, my favorite couple is played by Zhang Han Yuan and Liu Wei Chen, and I’m assuming they were a lot of fans favorites as they appear as a couple in season 4 and are set to have their own upcoming season of “Make Our Days Count2”. I would also like to point out that our main couple makes an appearance in a cross-over project with Japan “Life-Love on the Line”.
Season 4 – “Close to You” is the latest season currently available. It deals with 3 best friends who work together as wedding planners. Li Cheng and Mu Ren are both “straight” men who fall in love. Again there is a step-brother relationship that actually gets the parents involved this time. Let me tell you, mom is a bit of an odd one. And of course as stated previously, our favorite couple from season 3 makes a really cute appearance in a few of the episodes.

I've watched a lot of BL series ftom all around the world but sis History 3:Make our days count is far one of my favorite BL alongside tharntype the story was so relatable, well except for the se"x scenes :), but i could see myself doing that in high school anyways, ep 1 to 9 will give you all the BL scene that would satisfy you...

But ending came, it was so heartbreaking to watch i was crying while watching the last ep even the reruns, it was so sudden that's why i can't help but to think that's why from ep 1 to 9 they were giving us the ooh ah ah sensation since most prbably the plot twist will cause a stir in the BL world.

the only flaw of this drama is the plot twist nobody was expecting it and nobody wanted it to happen it just breaks my heart to see him cry throughout the last ep and of course the music it was very off, but we aint watching the show just for ost so i dont think its really important but yes ost's can give us the ooh ahah sensation we need from each ep.

overall i love it and will always remain as one of my fav BL's

And take note: this is my first time reviewing a drama

How the hell am I suppose to review this

It was really good. The nine episodes were so good. History 1 and 2 didn't really catch my heart but this one had depth and character development. The story was running perfectly and I constantly fell in love with the guys since their acting looked natural. But I don't know how to handle the ending. I don't mind a sad ending but honestly, after watching this I just feel sad and empty. I am not sure if I can't cope with how heartbreaking and sorrowful the ending was. I would say it was worth watching it but it left a lingering aftertaste I did get rid of and i am just crying.

,, I have changed. But he won't.”

I liked it, but I can never rewatch it.

......................
...............
........

.......................

I wondered before starting what "Make our days count" meant in terms of the story. Well. Episode 10 hit me like the car that hit poor XiGu. That ending was totally unnecessary, and the character deserved better. That poor kid struggled his entire life and just as he's starting to find his happiness he gets killed? Why can LGBT story's never just be happy?! That ending was totally pointless and an insult to our leads. And the random look alike was dumb af. I'm guessing they used shots of him in the final trailer to trick people into thinking XiGu was okay, otherwise people might have chosen not to watch the final episode. And why can HaoTing only excel to this extent if he's driven by pure grief? Wouldn't it have been lovely for them to just go to university and grow and mature together and be happy?!
Anyway other than that (and the irritating "only gay for him" trope) I really liked it. The sexual scenes were realistic when you think about the ages our leads are portraying, which is refreshing. They didn't go too far with it. Nothing got too problematic, and the family issues were real enough. But f*ck that writer for ending it like that.

Who was the DOPPLEGANGER?

The story was aesome and heartfelt and witty at times. My only complaint was not understanding who the kid was at the end of the series that looked like Shigu, I mean it would be way harder to move on if the person you loved just didn't remember you and having to see them all the time. I am sitting here crying while typing this review that is how sad this makes me. Empaths beware you shouldn't watch the last episode at all. I have actually watched this series about 8x and it still males me cry.

I Love It So Much, I Couldn't Help Myself That I Hate It Even If I Don't Want To

I never intended to write a review about this show but after seeing all the episodes, I just had to get this off my chest.

Overall, I liked how they built it up, little by little establishing the relationship between the characters and especially between YS and XH. I love how their story progressed and along the way it got me convinced to invest emotionally in the characters. Tbh, I think Wayne carried much of the weight of the show, he was just SOOO good!

Although there were tropes that are frankly overused (hello, "I don't like guys but I like you only"), they can be forgiven and brushed aside. I love how they have this dynamic of the parents' views intersecting with same-sex relationships. I love how there is an explicit scene of the main character's friends actively trying to understand and accept this new type of relationship in their minds. I love how our main characters' love develops. It didn't feel rushed and questionable to me. Towards the end, I removed all my armor and embraced and LOVE the characters. And I was mistaken to have done so.

Towards the latter part of the story, a growing uneasiness kept on bugging me. Apart from parent x child problems, we have not seen any conflict with major stakes. In the last few episodes, I kept on hoping for something sensible to come up and test the love of YS and XH. I was afraid that this much joy must have a high price attached to it. And then THAT plot twist came, I was horrified among many other things.

I mean, not all stories can and do have happy endings, but in this case, I must say that our characters deserved so much more than the ending that they were given. True, I shed tears and was an emotional wreck in the last episode, but I think it has more to do with how this ending did not give the characters justice even if it was to end tragically. The use of a doppelganger at the end felt absolutely contrived, arbitrary, confusing, and unnecessary to me. I kept on waiting for a backstory for the doppelganger only to be left disappointed when one of the characters confirmed YS' death. I thought a slightly acceptable closure was that YS' character had amnesia, but alas, dismay followed.

I cried tears for XH, I felt his pain. I LOVE the story but that ending butchered my love for it. They had been building us up only to leave us utterly hanging and dry towards the end. I can't stress this enough, the story is great but YS and XH deserved so, so much more than what they were given. It wasn't a satisfying ending at all. It was almost perfect, they just didn't tie the knots well enough, if at all. I was left with bitter sadness, questions, and exasperation. If I were to rewatch this, I'd skip the ending, I know. I loved it so much, then frustratingly, I couldn't help myself that I hated it even if I didn't want to. Regardless, this is still going to be one of my favorites for sure.

Amazing...but that ending tho.

Okay, bear with me for a second. I won't take too long...

The plot of this BL is fairly "common", it's the famous high school love story - enemies to lovers trope - but with a VERY unfortunate ending that I'm pretty sure got most of us pissed off one way or another. It's okay for endings to be sad, but it's not okay to make us fall in love with Hao Ting and Xi Gu and destroy everything in the last f***ing episode. And for what? What was the point?

I read some other review here that I completely agreed with....it was nothing more than for shock value. I love BLs and have been watching them for a long time....we all know that, unfortunately, there aren't a lot of healthy relationships in the series. Most of them are full of truly problematic depictions of gay couples (of course in rl there are problematic people lol but it would be amazing to also see healthy and happy relationships!!), and that's why the ending of this series pissed me off!!!!

Xi Gu already had such a hard life growing up pretty much by himself, all alone trying his best to be successful in the future. I was so happy Hao Ting came into his life...they were so happy, working hard for their future....starting their lives together. And them here comes the last 5 f***ing minutes of episode 9 to white truck the shit out of everything for us all!!! WHYYYY THO???

To be honest, I knew something like that was going to happen, it was all too good to be true. I just knew it! But I was still so mad of how it all went down after that. The six years time jump to the last episode was also extremely frustrating to me. The gave us NOTHING. ....except for bitterness. How amazing this series would have been if it had ended showing their success? A happy and healthy BL wouldn't have hurt lololol I still think it was a great series, but the ended was such a let down it hurt.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

1. I don't think Sun Bo was toxic per say.....he did make some unfortunate choices but he's a 17 or 18 (maybe?) highly hyperactive guy that was in love for the first time. He clearly lost control a few times but Lu Zhi is a grown man! I have no doubt he could have fight Sun Bo off if he thought it was necessary. Clearly not the case lol.

2. The whole "I'm not gay, just love him" thing....I believe Hao Ting is pansexual. But maybe he isn't really aware of it and just can't describe it better. He only knew he loved Xi Gu more than anyone else, and probably will forever. We don't know if he will in fact love another man, but that was my take from this whole thing.

3. Who the fuck is Phoebe? Where did she come from? We didn't even see her haha why even mention another person? In my mind she was just a friend from University that Hao Ting's parents are using to push the straight agenda. But they did call her a girlfriend....I'm VERY lost haha Chose to ignore the whole thing and throw it on the trash were it belongs hahaha

What to watch when you need an emotional drama

I've always been a fan of a high school love story, never really missed it. we might also know that "make our days count" is the last part of history stories. I've always like it, they never really disappoint us and always have a good ending. but they choose to end the last drama with a different one instead.

so, I'm not sure if I could say that I like the whole part. the sudden sad ending made us all furious, it was unacceptable indeed, and most of us would not think that it has 10 episodes, but only 9 instead. honestly, I do too. I still think that the sad ending was unnecessary. it was so sudden, we didn't see it coming. maybe they just wanted to make this series in a more realistic way where not everyone can have a happy ending with their loved ones. still, I don't like it.

my advice, don't watch the 10th episode. watch a japanese BL drama "life senjou no bokura" instead. it's a pretty good drama and both wayne song and huang juan zhi made a cameo there with a completely different story. just think of it as an alternate ending for both of them. :)

I never felt like writing a review before. I love the History series, they have a great story, the characters are so complex and the chemistry between them always leaves me speechless. They are that kind of series that you cannot stop watching. I finished it in 2 days, I started the last episode at 2 a.m. because I was so awake and couldn't wait to see the ending. And thats where the fun part ends.
This story was amazing. It was unexpected, when I felt that I know what will come next, it proved that I'm wrong. That's why it is impossible to stop it, because it makes you awake and wait for more. It is well-built, the more we get to know more about the at first sight "simple" characters, the more we love them. And I know that it is typical for (BL) dramas, that in the last episode something schoking happens, so I'm not that suprised anymore when an accident happens and they lost their memories, the MC gets kidnapped or loses someone etc. It's okay, exciting for the last moment.
But this ending was so.... I can't even find a proper word for it. After I watched the last episode I was miserable, heartbroken and took me a while to cry myself to sleep. I always love this from hate to love relationships, because there so big tension between them, and when they finally broke the walls between themselves... You feel like it happens to you. And the actors took it the whole new level. When I first saw Yu Xi Gu, I was already heartbroken. Skinny, strong cheekbones and soooo vulnerable. Yet he is working hard despite the things and suffering he has been through. Then his total opposite Xiang Hao Ting enters his life, changes it, make him feel love and warmth and that he doesn't have to fight alone anymore. He suffered already so much... It was like we got the heartbreak in advance, so I was quite confindent about the end. As I said: accident, ok. A bit more suffering and anxiety for the end, ok. But why had he have to die? I just can't understand, for me it is not reasonable. He suffered so much alone and got a few minutes happinness. I'm still schoked, I will never accept this, but I realized something. We all will remember to this drama, because of this. Because it is different. Not only the end, but the whole story. The ending just makes it even more memoreable.
That's why I gave 10/10 for it. Because I admit that it was brave move from the writers to do this. It has a big massege in my opinion: that we such appreciate what or more importantly whom we have and really Make Our Days Count as they did during short time that they got to be together.

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED AS I POST A MAJOR SPOILER!!!!

The story was going really well. I cried so much for Xigu because of his story and I really empathized with the character. I was so happy when he finally found happiness with Haoting. I was really hoping for a happy ending where we see Xigu get a happy ending and someone that loves him. The writers had other ideas and made a mess with the ending. They killed of Xigu and for what?! The ending I feel really did not add anything to the story. It was just an unnecessary plot twist that really leaves no one happy or satisfied. It feel like the writers DIDNT know how to end it or just wanted to mess with people.

The side couple as well I was not really interested in. The age gap made it weird and kinda uncomfortable But I guess if you ignore that it’s okay but still weird. I wish BLs would stop doing this. Another thing I wish BLs would stop doing is forgetting the concept of consent. There is one scene between Xigu and Haoting that made me uncomfortable to watch as Haoting was too aggressive and Xigu looked like he did not want to be there or have that happening to him.

Overall the story is good up until the last episode, but the actors really do a good job of portraying their characters. If you’re looking for a happy ending I would not recommend this one.
