uniqe that's what she is
If, like me, you enjoy watching thrillers and learning things in bits and pieces (i.e., secret forest, signal, even sky castle in the revealing formula), then this is ideal. I'm always looking for things that will both emotionally stimulate me and scare me (in a loose sense), as the ride in the Secret Forest did. They're apples/oranges, and Stranger has some of the tightest writing I've ever seen, but the thing about Trap is that it's thrilling, you're on the edge.Truthfully, if the actors were bad, it would be even more campy—because there is a bit of camp; some of the shit is just SO bizarre, uncanny, and left field. But they weren't. None of them were. Watching it was genuinely entertaining, and I enjoyed every twist and turn, and, girl, there are twists and turns. Is it flawlessly written? Although I def wouldn't say that, it's not nearly as bad as people are claiming. It's seven episodes, dude, like, lmao. It's a brief and disorientingly nuts watch, but it's also very good because it's very odd, and that's its appeal.
If OCN dramas aren't your thing—and they weren't mine, and sometimes still aren't, as I only watched them when I didn't want to think—but you like the same things I do (via my list/comments/reviews)? I would watch. It's clear that this is a unique genre, and I think it marked something of a turning point for the channel (Guest/Hand, a good show, comes to mind as a good catalyst for the change). This and Strangers from Hell, outstanding shows that were a part of OCN's "Dramatic Cinema," made it clear that these are a unique introduction to the channel, and they are of a different level, at least to my taste.
Yet, I think that both shows are mischaracterized or perhaps misunderstood (though for different reasons). There's mixed reception for Trap, and I suppose that's because I'm viewing the drama from a different perspective than some people, which is obviously where we're all coming from and I'm not special, BUT what I mean is: in my opinion, you have to have fun with this show; you have to see it as fun, while acknowledging the quality and critiquing where deserved.
They're literally taking you along for a ride that you can't get off of until it's too late. Like Kanye West said in Primetime (song), "I mean who says shit like that and doesn't laugh?" I think the team was definitely inspired by works by "auteurs" like Yorgos Lanthimos, Park Chan-wook, other contemporary auteurs of the uncanny or horror. It shares the quality of being frantic and fast-paced but also tension-building at a honey like pace. Can't explain it well but it's an intentional, and creative, way to bend temporality.
So, if you want a thrilling investigative story and enjoy bloody weirdness along the way, Do you love to have fun and be entertained? I'd honestly go for it. There's never a dull moment, that's for sure. and i loved being on the rollercoaster swear to satan
EDIT 8/5/19: i think this drama was aiming for pure insanity and it worked

First things first, it was a great choice making this a seven episode drama. In my opinion if this was 16 episodes, like some previous series like The guest and Save me, it would probably become a little boring halfway through and then it would be great again in the last few episodes.Secondly, this was a series that I was (im)patiently waiting for every week. I loved the story from the beginning with that dark vibe that OCN knows how to handle. I liked all the twists that the show had to offer and the acting was good (in my opinion at least).
Finally, the whole psychopathy thing made me shiver as I though all of the characters previous scenes, including his intense feeling about sadness and sorrow and the will to avenge for everything that he lost. Even though this is not the first time that that kind of twist has appeared -and it will probably not be the last- the cruelty from the character and the understanding from the viewer that no matter what happened he didn't feel anything, was enough to make this show a great watch. I liked all the characters in this series and I would probably watch it again as it is, as I mentioned before, a seven episode drama.
The only complain that I have is the ending. I suppose that OCN is preparing for a new season, but I believe that if they had finished the series properly and without plans of making another season this would be even better.

I am a big fan of psychological thrillers and out of everything I've watched so far, I think ''Trap'' did the best job when it comes to mixing these two favourite genres of mine. We have a very complex character(s) and extremely shocking and quite unpredictable storyline. I must say that I had a feeling about the plot twist since the first episode, but honestly, the whole truth was so freaking drepressing. The drama explores the darkest side of humankind to the point that it actually became a torture to watch. It just felt so uncomfortable to watch a person having no single feeling with such twisted mind... It was just horrible. I can't describe the feeling, it was just dark.
Now, I won't talk about the main lead at all, but I'll mention how AMAZING job Lee Seo Jin did at portraying him! I've seen him in variaty shows and he has such a cool personality and watching him acting was completely new to me, but he is such a great actor! I'm totally impressed with him. Of course, Sung Dong Il was good, too (he has been playing this type of character since forever lol).
As I see and completely understand, the ending disappointed a lot of people, incuding myself. I think they could have given a better closure to the story, the final episode felt too rushed and some things were left unexplained. I guess there's a possibility of a second season? I'm not sure about that though.
Overall, I recommend ''Trap'' to everyone who likes thrillers, especially psychological thrillers. I believe ''Trap'' is an amazing show that just deserved a better ending. But yeah, it will be very hard for me to forget what happened in the drama, it left such a bittersweet taste in my mouth and I feel like the name Kang Woo Hyun will haunt me forever lol.
P.S: I really love the title of the drama! That was one hell of a trap!

!
It was doing well and heading in a good direction until they decided to reveal too much and kill the mystery halfway. It also got pretty predictable at that point. Everyone got pretty sloppy and started to slip left and right, also killing any creativity it built earlier. It was a matter of waiting for it to just finish. It also tried so hard to set itself up for a season 2 which is just distasteful. First half was good, second half was bad.Was this review helpful to you?

idk how to feel
hold awn i have so much to say..so being a fan of short dramas i had to watch this one
but... idk i feel like the story had sooo much potential and had to be given imo 16 episodes
in the last two episodes i feel like the events were very rushed and had to develop pretty quickly in order to end it that way .. i mean the twist was kinda fun but the ending was not satisfactory i think i expected way too much from this drama since i really enjoyed the first episodes more. still its a good watch overall!

Clever Bait !!
Lee Seo-jin oppa is so scary…especially wen dat dimpled smile of his masks a murderous & ambitious nature. I had enjoyed Trap‘s twists and turns, even though I was a little put off by its outlandish beginning.Although I suppose Woo-hyun’s final end 2 being drugged is a fitting ending for him? Woo-hyun with the Hunters Team are too influential and have covered their tracks too well. Exposing them & putting them through the usual motion of the legal system is likely to backfire. But then, killing them in cold blood isn’t what Good Guys do either. So…next best alternative — a taste of their own medicine?
Verdict _ if you can stomach some violence and gore, then this one is for you. A Decent watch !!
