A Gentleman's Dignity

probably would have liked it if I watched it in 2012

I'm writing a review on MDL for the first time. And it is not because I'm in love with this drama. My expectations were high for this one since it had so much positive reviews and I was let down in the first episode itself.

First of all, after like 2016, after watching so many well produced dramas I am easily annoyed by the style (?) most dramas in 2009-2013 have. I don't know how to explain that , the way everyone talks sounds so unnatural and there's this unnecessary background music in every freaking scene and it bothers me a lot.

Talking about this drama, I knew that I will definitely drop it seeing the scene where kim haneul's character's dress was torn when a thread from it gets stuck on the ML's bag. I thought our guy is going to give his coat to her to cover her waist, but instead he made creepy comments about her butt(!) and walked so close to her that the exposed part of her body is not visible to others(if this is not sexual harassment I don't know what is!!) . I hated how he acted like a savior after sexually harassing her and she didn't feel uncomfortable at all? who would like a stranger forcing his body onto you????

All the four men seemed sexist and were acting like those typical sexist men who think being a womanizer is a desirable personality trait for men!

I am not gonna attack the looks of those men because I don't always like conventionally handsome men, but the misogyny and the 2012ish quality of the drama is enough for me to judge the whole drama from a single episode.

If I had watched it in 2012 when I was younger, and thought trashy men are attractive, I would have loved this drama.

Questo drama è unico nel suo genere. Racconta l'amicizia e gli amori di un gruppo di quattro uomini che, conosciutisi sui banchi di scuola, hanno continuato a frequentarsi e a supportarsi nei decenni successivi. Bromance assicurata! Non crediate che siccome i protagonisti hanno 41 anni la storia sia noiosa o pesante. Anzi, i maschi quarantenni vengono rappresentati per quello che realmente sono: ragazzini delle medie un po' cresciuti! A parte gli scherzi (e qui ce ne sono tanti), è bellissimo vedere come il loro sia un legame davvero profondo e in grado di affrontare qualsiasi difficoltà. Tra tutte le loro storie spicca quella d'amore tra Kim Do Jin (Jang Dong Gun) architetto e dandy del gruppo e l'insegnante Seo Yi Soo (Kim Ha Neul). La chimica tra loro è superlativa ma lui, davvero, è in grado di stenderti con uno sguardo. In venti episodi questo attore riesce a trasmettere l'immagine di un uomo a tutto tondo, con il suo orgoglio, le sue fragilità, l'ironia che usa per proteggersi e le barriere che con gli anni si è costruito. Io ne sono rimasta letteralmente ammaliata.
Comunque, anche le altre storie sono ben costruite: c'è Im Tae San (prima infatuazione di Seo Yi Soo) innamorato delle golfista Hong Se Ra la quale non vuole saperne di convolare a giuste nozze e abbandonare la carriera agonistica, Lee Jung Rock sposato a una donna più grande ma impenitente farfallone e il melanconico Choi Yoon che, dopo anni di vedovanza, si va a innamorare proprio della sorellina ventiquattrenne di Im Tae San. Inoltre, ad un certo punto, compare anche un figlio segreto di cui nessuno sapeva nulla. Ecco, forse questa è la parte un po' debole della narrazione perchè la sua figura è stata sfruttata più che altro come "ostacolo da superare" per il coronamento dell'amore mentre, tutti gli aspetti di conflitto e maturazione che ne potevano derivare sono stati trattati molto superficialmente.
Il ritmo è ottimo e non ci si annoia mai. La scrittura è originale ma, d'altronde, stiamo parlando di Kim Eun Sook, la mamma di Goblin e Mr. Sunshine!
Me lo rivedrei? Siii! Soprattutto per le scene tra Jang Dong Gun e Kim Ha Neul.

Très sympa si vous acceptez de rire des machos :)

Drama un peu daté (playboys très macho) mais avec d'excellents acteurs et une réalisation dynamique.
Super OST (beaucoup de bonne musique US).

L'histoire tourne autour d'un groupe de 4 amis quadra (1 marié, 1 veuf et 2 célibataires), de leurs amours, leur parcours, leur amitié.
Le point de vue (franche et virile relation entre ces 4 hommes, qui voient les femmes comme des trophées) est assez sexiste et daté, mais si on se place à l'époque, le propos pouvait sembler comique.

L'ensemble est très bien fait, bien joué,... A voir pour son côté sympa, sans le prendre au sérieux.
