Had potential but lacks character growth
The story is somewhat okay. However the characters weren’t well written specially the FL. Good thing the whole series is pretty short or else I might have dropped it with the annoyance of the female leads character who is just a pretty face and nothing else. Some scenes are unbelievably awkward and doesn’t make sense. The male lead is the only one carrying the scenes when they are together. It’s as if the female lead was just a prop. I have not read the manga yet but I hope it is not as bad as this adaptation. Was this review helpful to you?
I apologize to my eyes
I apologize to my eyes for seeing this poison. Why does the girl play like this? She wants to play a simple girl but looks more like a retard! It is true that she from the city, but she had already had coffee! Why does she look like this?
Then in the story, the girl doesn't even talk to a boy, Well, wait, maybe that man was a smuggler! Wadaf!?!
I saw it because of Niragi, but I burst out laughing because of how poisonous it was

Sweet and fluffy but no buildup to romance
I am not a fan of sudden love at first sight kind of romances. For them to be believable it has to at least be mutual and the chemistry believable. Here the leads fall in love and are in a relationship within the first episode. At least the ML has seen the FL before but the FL just falls for a handsome face and a kind gesture and decides to accept him as a boyfriend. This supposedly from a totally innocent college girl new to Tokyo. The ML does his best to save the drama, his affection and feelings translate to the screen. But the FL characterization as a doe eyed virginal college student totally spoils the romance because even after she supposedly falls in love and even sleeps with the ML she remains stiff, shy and immature till the very last episode! There were intimate scenes scattered throughout the drama and they all felt robotic and totally off putting as there was no build up to the romance and no cooperation from the FL. The drama would have worked better with just back hugs from the ML.
All the cliches you expect from a romance are present in this - cold handsome CEO ML mushy in love, pretty innocent poor village girl FL, something like a love triangle (but gets squashed within one episode), parent issue (again gets resolved within one episode), jealous friend, competitive friend who crosses the line (he even kisses the FL forcibly and she is dumb enough to go work at his cafe after that - talk about being brainless). None of them work because it all feels forced, cliched and not an organic buildup to the story.
The only redeeming factor about this one is that it is over in 10 episodes and yet it felt like a waste of time. I felt quite bad for the ML for wasting his potential on this drama where the script and FL characterization were absolutely pathetic.
I have seen many korean dramas where the buildup of the relationship is so masterfully done you root for the couple once they confess their feelings. This is my first Japanese drama and it has put me off so much I doubt I will see another Japanese one. If anyone is reading this review and feel there are actual good Jdrama romcoms out there kindly suggest those to me and change my mind.

"I want you to feel me with all of your senses."
I wasn't expecting a lot, so I guess the drama was okay. I liked the interactions of the characters a lot. I didn't really expect to find out that it was based on an anime. The plot was pretty basic, but I guess it's good for something to put on when you're trying to watch something that you know would bore you.Risa is a very fragile person, but then again she's not used to all the attention she receives in the city since she's from the country. But there's no way she grew up to be innocent how she was portrayed the whole show, there must've been a few things she learned, you what I mean? Hiroto was okay, but I felt his backstory wasn't explained at all whatsoever, we just knew that he was a CEO and he fell in love with her at first sight? Akutsu is my favorite character, manz is always somewhere and I love his relationship with Hiroto. Yoshiki is so cute, I actually felt really bad when Risa kept rejecting him and he still kept trying to win her over. We need another show just for him. Yuki was surprising, the way how Hiroto knew that he liked him and not Risa shocked me for some reason, but then I look back at the whole show and I realize Yuki was always close to Hiroto yet he treated Risa really well. Natsuki was an okay character, I didn't like her at first because even though she knew Risa was in a relationship, she still asked for a date with her boyfriend? But I realized she looked hella good with Akutsu, so I guess she's okay now. THEY NEED THEIR OWN SHOW, I LIKE THEIR MOMENTS TOGETHER.

Toxic relationship romanticised
So my biggest take away from this drama is that if I was 21 or younger I would be highly influenced by this seemingly romantic relationship and fantasise about seeking something similar myself. Now as a less impressionable woman in her late 20s I can safely say this is just 10 episodes of pure toxicity. If you take that away you're not left with much at all. There's no real story and what there is of one is utterly un-realistic, the chemistry is lacking between any of the characters and the FL is treated like a piece of meat throughout. Dori is gorgeous to look at, but I didn't find him believable as on older leading male. Also if you came here for steamy romantic scenes, look elsewhere. There's no passionate kisses here. I just feel the FL is taken advantage of and is constantly love bombed and gaslighted.Maybe I'm taking it all too literally but I struggled to enjoy this drama with all these negative themes. I endured it in the hope the FL would find a backbone and become confident in her own skin. Sadly this wasn't the case. Maybe the manga is better?

Coffee & Vanilla
It was cute and adorable - main female lead was cute, even the title is cute. I have watched this because of Sakurada Dori - he did not disappoint. Haruka - as I already said was cute, actress is so pretty - character was shy so I get why her acting felt a little off. In general japanese acting is different than korean - or maybe just in romcoms. Was this review helpful to you?
Unrealistic fluff. Sometimes it's just what you need.
Unrealistic fluff. Sometimes it's just what you need. If you like mills and boon romance with 50 shades vibes, go ahead and watch.I don't get the haters of this little drama. Obviously it's not a masterpiece but no one ever meant for it to be one. It should be judged for the manga based fluff that it is, and then its kind of fun.
And yes, the guy is a bit short and skinny but he's still good looking and rather hypnotic. The girl isn't strong and modern for most of the drama, although she does get some backbone in the end, and again, in the rich guy vs pretty virgin trope you don't really expect some kind of valkyrie...

Short & Very predictable Love Story
It's a love story between Risa Shiroki and Hiroto Fukami. Risa Shiroki comes to Tokyo from her hometown in the countryside to attend university. She is Twenty-years-old & Pretty and popular with male students, she has never had a boyfriend and dreams of having a sweet love. One day, Hiroto Fukami appears in front of her. He is Thirty -years old & a businessman who appears to be gentle and looks perfect. As romance blossoms between them, Risa discovers Hiroto's dark past.As I say it's a small & Very predictable love story. Romance Is not for all audiences it's Kind of for Adults.
Too much fast-paced romance which many people would not prefer to watch.
Plot: I would say the plot is very simple it's a love story of a Rich & Handsome Cafe franchise Owner & a College Student who is getting very uncomfortable around men.
Cast: I would say one thing I like about this drama is the selection of cast it's fit perfectly for Characters which is we get to see in Japanese Dramas.
Especially the Sakurada Dori Fits perfect for the character.
I would say, Fukuhara Hruka is also good at acting They fit perfectly for each other.
(Sakurada Dori is One of most handsome Me I have ever seen. He can even compete with one of most handsome actors in Korean Dramas.)
Music: You would not get that much music in this drama
Rewatch: For rewatching from my perspective I would not recommend it because you certainly not gonna enjoy rewatching this drama
Overall Score: Overall the drama is okey for me. I gave this drama 6/10 Score

Sweet romantic drama "coffee and Vanilla" only for 15+
It’s a great drama!I Don't know why people giving little rate to this drama. Actually It is adapted from a manga and when you will watch that drama you will feel that it is just like the anime but main characters are human!
I love the story.
Seriously love this drama! So romantic, sweet and fluffy! But you can't watch this infront of your parents! Hahaha
This a romantic drama that will give you butterflies. The fact is every boy in this drama are so handsome. But girls are not that pretty. Hahah sorry for that!

Love at first sight.
Okay so this was my first Japanese drama I watched and omg I really enjoyed it. I am glad I started watching it. It’s a cute love story where they don’t have much problems but people try and separate them. The female lead is cute and innocent well the male lead is a CEO who will do anything to get what he wants until he meets Risa. He falls in love with her at first sight and try’s to go up to her. I have watched many dramas and I find this so cute cuter than some that I watched I really hope you watch it to because you might really enjoy it.Was this review helpful to you?
Too Cute
I got sick of hearing the word "cute" as it was over used in this drama. Also having the FL constantly call the ML by his last name was dumb, by Episode 2, especially when they are alone. Sakurada Dori did the best he could in the role of Hiroto, but there was no chemistry with FL (Fukuhara Haruka) Risa. However she was better in this drama than in Good Morning Call. Drama's like this that have the FL as extremely incompetent and clueless, take away from the overall watchability. They could've had her learning self defence with Yuki or something. I felt more chemistry between Hiroto and Yuki, lol. And Risa had more chemistry with Tsubasa (Ogoe Yuki). The FL's childhood friend was under utilized and fell flat. I rate it 6.5/10 overall. It's a good watch for someone just starting to watch Japanese dramas. To be cheesie: The Vanilla overpowered the Coffee. Was this review helpful to you?
Sweet and bitter, exactly as its name
This one won't be one of my favorite Japanese dramas, but still I think it deserves watching.I think the acting is overally good, but what is the bitter part here is the story.
I know that in 10 episodes of around 24 minutes you can't portrait much but still it mostly failed for me.
The overall idea is the biggest cliché you could imagine - handsome, rich and confident man falling in love with poor, naive girl who thinks she's good for nothing. But I think even from this setting they could make more of a story. I think the biggest problems I had was that usually there was something hinted and I was looking forward to further explore the (usually dark) topic, but it was skipped and we did not know anything about it further. Also the complications that started at the beginning of the episode were usually solved right in the end of the episode and in the simplest (and usually very cringy) way possible. I can see almost no character development throughout the show. And what I really didn't like was the ML's often really too violent behaviour and FL's constant embarrasment about everything.
Despite of what I just wrote the drama still has some really good and sweet moments and I appreciate some of the "steamy" scenes out there which I haven't seen in any other j-drama yet.
If you don't want to watch anything complicated (because the story is quite straightforward), you should give this a chance, but prepare for some bitter taste to the overall sweetness of this drama.
