A cliche but I enjoyed it!
I totally get why some people didn't enjoy this show. The plot had a lot of overused tropes like love triangles, bad boy falls in love with the nice girl, etc.But nonetheless I still really enjoyed this drama, the comedy in it was good as well! At least to me lmao. Almost every episode was hilarious to me. I really liked the bromance between the main lead and the second lead, and their friendship with their friend who passed away. I appreciate and respect that they shed light on important topics such as suicide, grief, school bullying, and beauty standards in this series. The last episode really moved me, and I was sobbing my eyes out.
i didn't like the webtoon and dropped it, but I think the kdrama gave it justice. I feel like a lot of people didn't like this drama because of the webtoon. If a series moves me and makes me feel emotional then it was great, but everyone's experience is different. One thing I don't like about this series is how they used a trope that I hate, which is when the second female lead is being treated with less love compared to the second male lead. It's a huge trope that female second leads are vain and cruel, unlike their male counterparts who are loved. Kang Soo-Jin had a lot of potential so I'm glad she got a little redemption in the end, although I couldn't forget about her actions and how it caused pain to everyone she loves. I still love her though; I just wish she was written in a better way. Nonetheless I managed to look passed this trope, because I treated this show as a fun little drama that I watched to distract me from school lol.
The OST is also really great it ranges from fun to emotional depending on the plotline and I enjoyed them all!
Anyways just because I liked it, doesn't mean you will! So, if you can't look passed the cliche love story and tropes in this series then this kdrama isn't for you, but if you want to watch a kdrama that might give you a boost of serotonin then I suggest giving this a chance :)
In the meantime, I'm just going to go cry over my boy Han Seo-Jun

Excellent show about bullying and learning to love yourself
The actors in this series, including support actors, really portrayed their characters well. Although the storyline contains scenes that are hard to watch due to the bullying, it also has scenes that are funnier than any series I've ever seen (her dad seeing her kiss Cha Cha, the animal print boxers dancing scene, and many more). I've watched this series several times and believe I will continue to rewatch it. All the lead actors are seriously good at their craft and I wanted each of them to have a happy ending which they did.I did wonder about the dad of Cha Eun Woo's character. Did he pass away in America? Is that why the son seems so sad when he returns to Korea? I'm guessing we are suppose to think that as the son has been away for so long.
I also loved the music for this series and enjoy listening to the soundtrack.

True Beauty is an excellent adaption!
As with all Manhwa to Live action adoptions, if you are looking for an exact copy, you'll be disappointed. However, the writers definitely captured the essence of the source. There are several moments where I was like, hey, that happened in the manhwa! And while many things are very different, the story is mostly the same. This drama is great even if you aren't a fan of the manhwa. The characters are so full of depth and have their own motivations, the drama branches off into B and C plots, and it takes you through an assortment of emotional topics such as grief, abuse, betrayal, suicide, bullying, etc. Some parts were so cute and made me laugh out loud, I loved the references to other dramas (shout out to goblin) and then other parts had me nearly in tears. I would definitely recommend this to others.

EhHhHhH. okay.
This drama is so... cliche. There's nothing really new about it and it just seems recycled from "My ID is Gangnam Beauty."I first watched this drama because of Cha Eunwoo, as an Aroha I wanted to support him. The first 2-4 episodes were fine, I was watching another drama at the time because it was airing. Somehow, I always forgot what happened in the previous episode. Was it that forgettable? Kinda....
{spoiler alert in the next paragraph}
It's really predictable what happens. Like when Suho got hit by a car he would go to the hospital and Ju Kyung would come running. When Soojin turned evil, she would soon regret it and apologize to her friend. It's very.... easy to predict. This is what made it boring. There was a "cliffhanger" with the eps, but its just so easy to predict what happens and thats what made it boring.
I have two good things I liked about this drama, however. One, the OST. They aren't exactly my favorite, but they are pretty good and I liked them. The second thing was the meanings that this drama taught viewers. That society doesn't define you. You define yourself. There's more to it.
1. Society doesn't define you. You define yourself.
2. If you love someone but they don't love you back, move on from it. Staying in a place won't help.
There's probably more but I watched this a while ago so I don't remember too much. (exactly. it's forgettable).

Debunking Korean Beauty Standards
I like that this show is based on a webtoon that tries to make the female lead more relatable to watchers. We always get gorgeous female leads and unattainable beauty standards that come with it. It's an 8 because I wished they have centered more in a journey of self love instead of a love triangle.Speaking of love triangles I wished they had given more development to one of the characters in this sense, and also why no one ever talks about weight issues or eating disorders that the Korean population has? It would have been an interesting arc.
It's a good binge watch.

LOVE TRUE BEAUTY SM! The drama is insane and I love the vibe :) All the side couples are so fun to watch :) Would be a perfect 10 star IF the time skip did not exist! I feel the last 2 episodes [esp. episode 15] was useless and just fanservice. It dragged the love triangle out too long. Why couldn't they just end the show when the main couple got together finally in episode 14 [AND ofc wrapped up the other side couple storylines]? That is my only qualm, otherwise I absolutely ADORED this show :)<3The acting was incredible, I found myself sobbing alongside the characters. I love the OST as well :)

IS THAT TRUE YES OKAY DOKEY OHH
This was my first ever kdrama and it is one of my fvrts and I am team hanseo jun😭😭😭 but no offense it's fineee we got haply ending of him in family by choice drama go watch that too right now!!I changed the topic sorrryy so as I was saying that this was my first ever kdrama and it broke my heart but it was reallyy amazing it is one of fvrts!!❤️🫶🏻
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
There is this girl who is type of ugly and really want to impress his crush plus she is also bullied. One day she went to confess to her crush and she also made some handmade gifts for her but he throw all the gifts and also rejected her. She was bullied again and some people made her video getting bullied and posted it on internet. One day she was sitting in library and she met her childhood friend who was rude to her in their first meetings but then he started to remember her and started to fall for her.
Now it was about first lead now we will talk about second lead so between the female lead and second lead there was enemies to lovers( but she didn't become his lover) but their chemistry was too good. That's why they were my fvrttt!!! And the efforts the second lead did for her like literall😭😭😭😭 and the pain he was holding in himself because of not being choosen😭😭😭😭 but both leads did so much efforts for her but the first lead loved her in childhood also and he was gone through a lot in his childhood and in his teenage years his family condition was not good at all atleast the second lead had a family who was supportive and the best thing about second lead is that he let her go not to steal her from someone and the important thing that the first lead and second lead was very good friends back then but they fighted with each other because they used to have a trio and the third person died and the second lead blames him for that. But he choose his friendship over his love. He let her go for his best friend. So that is love and that is friendship.
Now let's rate it.
1. Story: The storyline was reallyy good like it's shows one-Sided love and different types of friendship. This drama is not just an drama this drama is an emotion and every kdrama fan have watched this drama for sure and if you haven't go watch it. I know it will break your heart like it broke mine A LOTTTTTT but it's finee to recover yourself from hanseo jun trauma go watch family by choice.
2. Acting: The acting of every actor mainly the three actors the main characters their nailed it frr like how they showed and layed down every emotion like wowww I am impressed guyssss!!!!!!
3. Music: I really don't notice the OSTs but overall I noticed it was reallyy reallyy good.
4. Rematch value: Ik I am team second lead and it gave me trauma but there are also some funny and chaotic moments of them that I would love to watch again. No doubt but the main leads were also looking good together(yeahh.. maybe) I am being honest see I am not favouring any team right now( ofc I am.....).
So that's it go watch it right now I know it will give u some trauma but you won't regret watching it go watch it and also watch Family by choice.

A solid good kdrama
This K-drama stands out as neither overrated nor overhyped; it's simply good. It strikes a perfect balance between being engaging and enjoyable, making it a worthwhile watch.First, let's talk about the story. While it may not be the most innovative or groundbreaking, it offers a familiar yet charming plot that many fans of the genre will appreciate. The storyline is fairly predictable, with common tropes and expected twists, but this doesn't detract from its appeal. In fact, it possesses the magical recipe of being lightweight and entertaining, which makes it easy to watch without requiring too much emotional investment. It's the kind of drama that you can relax with, enjoying the characters' journeys and the unfolding narrative.
The cast is another highlight of this drama. The actors chosen for the roles fit their characters perfectly, especially the three main leads. Their performances bring the story to life in a way that feels natural and believable. Interestingly, I usually don't enjoy the acting of the main actress, but in this particular role, she managed to impress me. She brought a depth and charm to her character that I found surprisingly enjoyable. Her chemistry with the other leads adds to the overall effectiveness of the drama.
When it comes to rewatch value, this drama excels. I won't go into too much detail here, but suffice it to say, you will definitely feel the urge to watch it again. Personally, I've lost count of how many times I've rewatched it, and it continues to be just as enjoyable each time.
In summary, this K-drama is a great example of a classic, fun-to-watch series. It doesn't aim to be revolutionary but rather focuses on delivering a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Whether you're a seasoned K-drama fan or new to the genre, this drama offers a delightful and entertaining escape.

The Ultimate High School Rom-Com
The Premise: Behind the MakeupTrue Beauty follows Lim Ju-kyung, a high school girl who was bullied for her appearance and decides to master the art of makeup to transform herself into a "goddess." After moving to a new school, she finds herself caught in the middle of a rivalry between two former best friends: the cold yet handsome Lee Su-ho and the charismatic "bad boy" Han Seo-jun. The story is a fun, heartwarming look at self-confidence and the complications of first love.
The Classic Rom-Com Vibe
If you are looking for a "pure rom-com," this is exactly it. It has all the elements that make the genre addictive:
The Humor: From Ju-kyung’s clumsy makeup mishaps to the hilarious bickering between the male leads, the comedy is consistent and lighthearted.
The Aesthetics: The show is visually bright and polished, capturing the vibrant energy of high school life.
The Message: Beneath the makeup and the fluff, there is a sweet message about learning to love your "true" self and finding people who accept you without the mask.
The Heartbreak: Second Lead Syndrome
The standout element of this drama—and the most painful one—is the love triangle.
Han Seo-jun’s Devotion: While Su-ho is a great lead, it is almost impossible not to feel bad for the second lead, Han Seo-jun. He played the role of the protective, "unrequited lover" so perfectly that it hurt to watch.
The "No Chance" Reality: Even though he was always there for her, the drama makes it clear he never really had a chance, which makes his silent sacrifices and eventual heartbreak even more emotional for the viewers.
My Personal Take
True Beauty is an amazing drama because it knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn't try to be a dark thriller; it stays true to the "coming-of-age" romance. The chemistry between the entire cast—including the supportive family members and school friends—makes it feel like a complete world.
Final Verdict
A must-watch for anyone who loves high school dramas and doesn't mind a bit of "Second Lead Syndrome" heartbreak. It’s a feel-good journey that reminds us that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

guilty pleasure show ig hehe?
SPOILERS // I watched this drama with a friend and I will agree it is very enjoyable, there were a lot of funny scenes and the ost is actual gold. Terms of it being an amazing drama? No. The ending didn't satisfy me considering im very pro seojun eversince he showed up in the webtoon. Although, I wasn't expecting her to end up with seojun considering in the drama suho and jugyeong seemed like soulmates lmao. So like I get it...but I just wasn't satisfied. What I can say this is so much better than the webtoon although I love seojun. All the actors played the roles very well, and the main factor is the fact she actually gained confidence from not wearing makeup later in the drama. That never happened in the webtoon so I'm really glad. I think its cool that seojun is in more of a k-band then a kpop group beacause i genuienly dont see his character being a kpop idol! Other than that I think this drama had funny moments, good acting, likeable actors/characters, and one of the best ost for a kdrama. My favorite scene from the whole show was probably when jugyeong was held captive in the karoke room and the gang came and attacked the men..that was hilarious and I've never enjoyed a scene that much. Anywaysss stan minah and hwang in yeop<3Was this review helpful to you?
