Pleasantly surprised

So before watching this film I read some of the reviews on here as well as other websites and honestly they weren't that great. People complained about the bad acting and terrible writing, so with reason I was reluctant to give this a try, but I did. As I watched I kept waiting for the "bad acting" and "terrible writing" many reviewers claimed was an issue. In my opinion the writing was pretty solid and the acting was actually very good, lowkey better than some of the acting in the most popular BL's. Yes the acting is very over the top and exaggerated but that's how it's supposed to come across as this is apparently adapted from a Manga. Long story short I think this was a really cute BL. The story could've used a little more substance but it did fairly well. I think this is a prime example of how you should not allow reviews discourage you from giving a film or series a chance and experiencing it for yourself.

Premise is interesting but fails to deliver, mediocre acting.

I have to say that I've not read the manga, so I had no idea what to expect before watching.

Though apparently some of those who read the manga would beg to differ, I actually don't think the story is the main issue. True, the way the movie depicts the struggle of a famous actor to accept his sexuality is simplistic at best, and for western audiences that might seem like a non-issue nowadays, but as Japan is a little more conservative when it comes to positive portrayals of LGBT, that wasn't much of a problem in my opinion.

What the movie actually lacks is good acting. I don't know whose fault is this - whether it's the director's or the actors' - but some scenes were so exaggerated and amateurishly acted that it made me physically cringe. Sometimes otherwise OK scenes (story-wise that is) were completely ruined by inappropriate facial expressions, vocal tones or gestures - For example, in one scene one of the actors, who was supposed to be terrified, visibly couldn't hold his laugh back.

The music also didn't help. Inconsistent and inappropriate at times.

Wouldn't watch again.
6/10, and I'm being generous.

It's Cute

The writing wasn't great I'll be honest and at times the acting was pretty bad. However it was cute. It's was missing a lot from the anime . I also skipped though most of it cause the story was so boring. I don't blame the actors though. I think this all has to do with the writing. Actors can only act as good as the script. It seems kind of low budget.

The brother was barely in it and there weren't a lot of romance scenes. It also hinted another love story but barely touched it as i said poor writing and nothing more.

So bad it is still bad but made me smile

There are those movies that are so bad they are good, this is however not one of them as it is more or less just bad but it will make you feel good in the end (not only for finally ending).

The 1st lead's acting is awful and he looked like he had pooped his pants most of the movie (that or was about to), his character lacks in most ways including ability to control his impulses, and even though he does have some character development he truly needs a lesson or 10 in consent.

The other guy was sweet and kind and confused.. he did not seem to have pooped his pants but could use an acting lesson or two as well.

The side character where kind of bland, the cinematography too...

Watch it don't watch it honestly it doesn't really matter

LORD HAVE MERCY.

Girl what the hell. One part of my brain is absolutely hating this, but the other part is thinking "I have seen worse" trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. But I am NOT gonna give it to it!

First of all, I wasn't originally a fan of the anime and manga due the sexual assault situation, but I do admit that there were things about the anime that I really liked how they were portrayed. This movie destroyed ALL OF IT and I was left quite disappointed and upset.

My favorite part about the anime was the commercial. I loved the drama, I loved the momentum, I loved the expectation, and I loved the magic of it all. I still remember clearly Izumi bursting through the chapel's doors to meet his groom; It was such a shoujo manga worthy scene that truly made it a highlight of the anime for me. Well, bitch, that was not the case here. Every single thing about this movie was so shallow and empty of all types of emotion. It was truly a disappointment.

We were quickly glossing over "important" moments from the story, leaving with little to no time to grow fond of any of the characters or scenes.

The acting was questionable. And I'm being nice here, okay? To be honest, I have seen way worse. Japan has a weird way of making comedy series and the acting has always been quite cringey on those that seem to be based off of manga. The acting on this one seems to be on the better side, in my opinion. Still messy as fuck, not gonna lie, but better. I did find it a little more natural while in other live actions it usually looks like that lady from Avatar the Last Airbender that always goes "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" with the creepy dead smile.

The pacing was pretty bad too, like, they cut so much out from the story that everything feels like it happens in the span of two days.

Sis, this show has everything: terrible cast, terrible editing, terrible acting, questionable fashion choices, lack of emotion, sexual assault, and so much more for your displeasure. I do not recommend watching this, and I also don't recommend watching the anime due to attempts of sexual assault and actual sexual assault... well, maybe watch the first couple of episodes just for the commercial. The only thing that I liked.

Cute & Fluffy With Manga-style Acting & Humor.

An easy 84 min watch; low plot and low angst fun with a happy ending. As it's based on a manga, it's not surprising that they employ a purposeful silliness in telling the story. The exaggerated situations and acting are not everyone's cup of tea, but it's done fairly well here even though it's a low budget production. It succeeded in making me smile and quietly chuckle multiple times. (The slippery sock chase around the sofa was my favorite bit.)

Mahiro (as Izumi) is the strongest actor. Even within the acting style chosen he shows range and some nuance. The others are flatter in their abilities but no one really drags the story down.

The camerawork needed work. Everything seemed hand-held (even still shots) and any panning movements were slightly jerky/stuttering. I was able to ignore it most of the time but I would not have wanted to watch a full series of this as too much of it would give me a headache (but my eyes are sensitive to this kind of thing).

Almost a copy of the anime

I've watched and read this manga. If you want to make a movie with actors based off a manga and there's already an anime, as this case, I feel like you need to add scenes that weren't included in the manga/anime but goes according to the main plotline.

For example, they could have deepen the plotline a bit and make it a little more realistic and less childish (i guess). Maybe add some scenes where Ryoma can develop some real feelings for Izumi, instead of just him having a similar eye color to a marble, or add some other scenes where Ryoma and Izumi get to know each other, spend time together, include some tension moments to really make the audience involved with the feelings. Or they could have explore a little more the relationship between the manager and the brother, that would have been nice too.

Instead they just chose to make a live-action movie and this is the reason why Ryoma's actor played Ryoma's role exactly as the anime character. Over the top and exagerated reactions work in anime, mainly because they're 2D characters and unless you gave them some big reaction they look plain but with real people these reactions just come off as cringey and veeeeery dramatic. I didn't not like it but it was just like rewatching the anime. I feel like a deeper plotline, a more developed romance and realistic acting could have really given this better chances.

A Somewhat Faithful Adaptation

**Brief Synopsis**
B (Student): Sena
T (Actor): Ryo

This is a somewhat faithful adaptation of the original manga. B is the son of an extremely affluent show business family but he, unlike his siblings and parents, don’t want to become a part of that. Instead he wants to become a mangaka, even if he doesn’t have any talent.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT:
- Sena is really cute. I really like how he looks and it makes me happy to see him on screen.
- I like how they changed the ad to become same sex marriage instead of having Sena cross dress again.
- I really like the ending where they tell the press they are dating.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT IT
- Ryo looks like a creep most of the time. He’s really not that good looking, which doesn’t make sense because he is supposed to be some kind of big superstar.
- The non con part where Ryo forces Sena’s shirt off him to confirm he was really a boy. This part is extremely faithful to the manga, but I never liked it.
- The acting is horrible. The crew tried to add all the extra-ness seen in the manga here but it just doesn’t work. A lot of things work in the manga because it’s a manga, but when it translate to the screen, it’s just awkward and cringey.
- There is no build up to this relationship and the show gives no reason why we should root for this couple.

**Conclusion**
This is an adaptation we could do without.

Well yeah?

Story:
To be honest I didn't knew what was going on most of the time. The fact that couldn't tell two actors apart wasn't helping either but that is my fault. I liked the overal story of the introvert in an popular family even though I think that could have been a bigger part of the plot.

Acting/Casting: As I mentioned I confused two characters all the time but that's my fault. Other then that it was solid acting nothing really outstanding but not bad either:3

Music: Didn't really noticeable but that means it ain't bad^^

Rewatch Value: In general I'm not a person who rewatches whole Series or Movies rather than someone who rewachtes special scenes but there aren't any outstanding ones but in general I wouldn't hate to watch it whole again:)

The story is based on the manga, so the girls' landscape hairstyles on the young men and the strange Japanese-manga style, where the actors sometimes look like jerks, affected machines programmed for complete playback, were to be expected. I prayed that the film would not be much of a comedy, but rather a drama, because the bigger the Asian, here Japanese mango comedy, the bigger the farce for the European viewer. Unfortunately, she was. The prankster is sometimes even cute, how she was brought to the top. Sena and Ichijo, the two main characters with whom I eventually got along, at least got a little serious at the end, but otherwise an average Japanese film for me (I evaluate from the point of view of Japanese films based on manga)

could have been great, but has the same toxic tropes as the manga

Unfortunately, the story suffers from the same issues as the original anime and manga. So many of the main couple's intimate scenes contain non-consensual kisses, touching, and borderline r*pe attempts. I don't understand why the mangaka thought this was necessary when the characters and story would be incredibly good without these elements. Ryoma is constantly ignoring Izumi's boundaries. The family and their agent turns a blind eye to this and worse, actively allow Ryoma to meet Izumi at home, at school, etc. Sexual harassment is not funny and should not be the baseline for a future romantic relationship. I was hoping they'd change these things for the live action drama, especially since they seemed to have no problem updating the wedding ad to show a same sex couple, but disappontingly the rest of the show was not updated.

The base plot would work so well, if they simply just allowed for Izumi to fall in love with Ryoma organically. Ryoma having a crush on Izumi first and wanting to get to know him would have been perfectly okay if he had even an ounce of self-control.

The actors played the characters well, and I immediately recognized Shougo's actor who also voiced the character in the anime. Ryoma's actor is yes, very over the top, but that is literally how the character is in the source material.

I am really sad about this one, because the writing and comedic scenes are otherwise great. The screenplay seems to be written by the mangaka too and they did a great job with transitioning the story into a live action drama and it flows really well. The actor really look like their characters, I love how their hair was styled to match the original designs.
