MALE CEO WHO HATE LIES MEETS MISS LIE

Updated!! watching it in 2023. Romance 10/10 , annoying characters 10/10, last few episode dropped the rating from 9.5 to 8.5. Those side characters are way too annoying, and the fact that the male lead got mad at her...

I enjoyed this drama for the most part, up until the end, the end kinda ended abrupt ( will talk about it later)

Story: Male CEO absolutely hates people to lie, so he insist on tell the truth all the time which sometimes truth can hurt. Female lead is the opposite, she likes to tell more white lies. ( male lead had an traumatic encounter with a lie and vow to never lie again) The two meet after the male lead exposed her cheating bf and also made her lose her job. She ends up applying to the male lead company. They start off on the wrong foot, because he is finding that she always lies. The female lead helps the male lead talk and try to get clients for his architect company. Slowly the two fall in love, and his truthfulness starts to change her, and her white lies start to change him. She also helps heal the male lead and second male lead's broken friendship.

The female lead doesn't lie to hurt people , but she does white lies because she doesn't want to hurt her family, but also because she is scared to face the truth. With the help of the male lead, he encourages her to be herself and not to be scared or think she is a small potato. Through her struggles , the male lead sees that not all lies are bad.

Romance: this was one pair that was oozing with chemistry. every kiss was very cute and passionate ;) The way the male lead expresses his love for her is a little too much for my heart to handle. ( heart flutters) Seriously loved all the scenes.
I kinda skipped over the second male/female pairing love story lol not at interesting to me .

Annoying character: there was one lol , the female partner who liked the male ceo. Doing too much tio try to ruin the leads relationship. Please dont be a b....

Ending: not going to spoil it, but i felt like it could of wrapped it up better. I felt there was some unnesscary/ didnt make sense plot development towards the end.

Overall: I really liked the meaning and messages behind the story. its not bad as other review said. Also cute female lead, hot male lead, nice chemistry too.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good show. Not a great show at all. Should not have been 31 episodes, seriously. It has a pretty interesting story when you read about it, it's based off a manhua, which from my experience, shows that are, happen to never disappoint me and honestly, the chemistry between the main leads is wonderful and outrageous and it literally makes your heart swoon. It starts off with a girl that's just trying to live her life and make a living but things never happen to go her way, she tells a little white lie to make it through life here and there, but honestly, who doesn't? Then you have a rich male lead who happens to hate liars due to a past trauma and honestly, then it ends up your average CEO and assistant drama from there, which is never too bad. But then there's WAY too much going on in it. The second male lead is stupid and annoying and you just want to punch him in his butt chin because he's seeking some whack ass "revenge" you end up thinking the second female lead is gonna be awesome, a great friend and etc but she turns into a dumb obsessed with the male leads type and I HATE that, she deserved her own love story, not whatever stupid story they wanted to toss in. Then you have our great female lead, with a STUPID family that's useless and pointless and they honestly could have missed me with that part of the story tbh. But thank god for our male and female lead, the saviors of the show, if it wasn't for their relationship and romance, this show would just be a dump, but they really do make it up for the pointless, I cannot stress enough, pointless drama. Especially towards the end, talk about pointless. lol.

The acting was great, the ML was good at what he does, his emotions, his acting, the way he freely talked, this was meant for him. The female lead was clueless, but sweet, innocent and naive but she does it great, you know what I mean? They clicked, the chemistry was there, the kisses were amazing, the whole relationship really just made the show for me. I loved them, I loved these two together. As far as everyone else and the rest of the story? Didn't care for them, at all. I liked the best friend, the little sister, but everyone else can KICK ROCKS.

The music was fantastic, worth listening too and really fitting.

Overall, I just can't put myself through to watching this drama again, I'll probably rewatch any scene our main leads are in and their romance factors and watch every kiss or just cute scene with them but the WHOLE show? Miss me with that tbh. I felt like I was watching some kiss and slap Thai drama, I was like "WHAT KIND OF THAIANESE DRAMA AM I WATCHING???" Overall, I'm glad I watched it. I'm happy to push through because it was so romantic in those aspects and they made me click with them. It started slow, got draggy and those are downfalls. But the COUPLE WAS AMAZING. SO 10/10 FOR THEM, 8/10 for every other POS that made me mad in this show.

This and That

Finished this today, not sure why it took me a few extra days to finish it. After halfway i was kind of reluctant to want to continue but i did anyway because i thought this story was different and seemed ok to just try to finish it.

I would say that the ending was ok. I would wanted it to be a little more but better than some other drama which ended it abruptly.

One thing i was not happy about the ending to this story was the cousin sister (Yu Ching). No explanation on her ending, they should at least put some consequences to her nonsense throughout the years of bullying FL. Also the aunty should be punish as well. Ok, i may sound harsh but at least teach her some valuable lesson but NOPE. NOthing, although we did managed to see her uncle in the wedding.

So yea, some parts were hanging and not as clear. So, better story next time. Peace out!

Good Skinship Alone Shouldn't Justify a High Rating!

Fang Zhi You's character was wasted on the crowd he was surrounded by, except his little sister. If you've read it once, you've read it five or six times. His little sister, legit, was this drama's best part and stole the show in every one of her scenes.

Yuren was a psycho chick until the end, as was Li Zhe, Yuwen's dad, Yiren's family, and Zhi You's dad. These cast members part of the story was tediously boring to say the least.

I'm sorry but, I'm not buying into the last minute redemption arch they tried to shove at me. Vast numbers of the supporting cast were so unreasonable and stubborn for so long, there wasn't even one thing major that should have forced an instant change of heart except the drama ran out of script and episodes after recycling the same problems 20x.

Yiren's best friend and her secondary coupling story was uninteresting to me. Her friend was just spoiled and difficult.

I swear that, while Zhi You suffered from the inability to lie, Yiren suffered from mythomania. It's the only thing that can justify her need to lie about even the smallest matter with no real valid reason or benefit to herself or others past simply wanting to lie first and figure things out afterward in every situation.

All the romantic interactions, and nice skinship, that would have made me likely swoon in any other drama, didn't make up for everything I disliked about the FL and the supporting cast of characters and their stories.

Warning! The cringe factor is fairly high in the first few episodes. Scenes meant to create moments of sparks between the ML and FL were so contrived that they made me laugh out of embarrassment. I can only handle so many scenes of the FL accidentally falling into the ML’s arms.

Still, I found the show entertaining and, in general, well-paced. It's an interesting plotline with a ML who hates lies and a FL who lies mainly to avoid conflict and hurting others as well as herself. Adding depth to the story was the subplot behind the love-hate relationship between the ML and the second ML. Throw in a scheming, bitchy third party vying for the ML's love, plus other villains so gratingly annoying, and you have a rom-com that is delightful but with enough drama to cause your blood pressure to rise at times.

I did wish that the romance between the lead couple started earlier, but mainly because the chemistry was great! Fang Zhi You was just so charming and adorable once he acknowledged his feelings for Xu Yi Ren. He was always trying to be romantic with her, and the skinship progressed so naturally. Their kissing moments were cute, and I like that they both can be honest about their lack of experience in love. The fact that Zhi You always told the truth made whatever he said to Yi Ren so much more meaningful, and he did say the sweetest things.

I was also touched by their commitment to each other and how they were both consistent in their acknowledgment privately and publicly that they were each other's one and only love. Even when others have assumed that their relationship has failed because Yi Ren did something unforgivable in Zhi You's eyes, it was heartwarming to see Zhi You not actually giving up on her, and for Yi Ren choosing to stay as close to him as possible even if it meant being humiliated repeatedly. It was endearing to watch Zhi You struggle with his principles, while his love for Xiren remained unwavering.

I was less interested in the second couple's relationship. The chemistry was not there for me, and I have to admit that I skipped through their scenes a few times.

The character development of the two leads in the show was the biggest plus point for me. I liked how Zhi You matured into someone who is more mindful of other people's feelings particularly Yi Ren's. I appreciate how he still valued honesty and did not lower his own standards throughout the show but instead he became more aware of social graces and the "give and take" aspect that was necessary in relationships. My favourite moment was when Zhi You realized that loving someone 100% mean accepting both their strengths and weaknesses.

It was also gratifying to see Yi Ren drawing strength from Zhi You's love and became braver. The development of her self-awareness and self-confidence was satisfying to watch, especially when she finally stood up against her nasty aunt and cousin, and their emotional blackmail. Yi Ren never did stop lying completely, but she did become more honest and true to herself and Zhi You. She realized that she did not need to lie to avoid conflicts and that it was better that she faced her problems upfront.

Fang Shi Yu, the little sister, and Li Zhe, the second male lead, were absolutely awesome, and they were the perfect catalyst for the lead couple's relationship. Shi Yu was an absolute breath of fresh air, and she was the voice of strength and reason. It was cute to see her advise her brother in the matters of the heart, and so refreshing to see her stand up to adults and put them in their places. Li Zhe was so charming and disarming, and even towards the end, his longing for Yi Ren was still palpable despite him accepting that Zhi You and Yi Ren were meant for each other, and that he wanted the best for them. I suffered a little of the second lead syndrome, especially since I became invested in Li Zhe's back story with Yi Ren. Ultimately, I am glad that he still got his happy ending with his father.

It would have been nice to see the other characters develop further like the villains actually learning from their mistakes. It was a bit anticlimactic for me when there were no retribution or lessons learned for the aunt and cousin. At least the uncle showed some backbone finally towards the end. I did find the way the show wrapped up He Yu Wen, the third party's story in a rushed manner, but at least there was closure between her and Zhi Yu.

Acting-wise, I thought Xin Yun Lai's portrayal of Fang Zhi You and Liu Hai Kuan's as Li Zhe were really good. Their micro-expressions were on point, and you can see the array of emotions play across their faces nicely. Of course, it does not hurt that they are both good-looking in their own ways. I look forward to seeing these two actors play the lead roles in more dramas going forward.

While I like Yi Ren, the character, I was less impressed by Liang Jie, who played her. I really tried throughout the 31 episodes to like her, but it just did not happen. I would not say that her acting was bad. In fact, I think she did fine overall, but there was just something lacking. It could be her' resting bitch face'. She often looked like she's pouty or bratty even during scenes that did not call for it.

Like in most of my reviews, I am going to comment on the wardrobe styling. I find that in most C-Dramas, they must have a low budget for the female lead wardrobe and again it is a miss for this show. Both male leads’ clothes were fine overall even though less enviable compared to other shows. The female lead’s styling however was terrible. All the over-sized Peter Pan and shawl collars!!! It’s 2020 for heaven’s sake! Why in the world did they have to make her look granny-like and dowdy? I realized that they want to contrast Yi Ren against He Yu Wen in terms of sophistication but they really went overboard!

The OST was all right. Other than the two tracks that I thought suited the moods of the scenes well, I didn’t remember any other ones.

Overall, I would recommend this show for its fluffy romance, interesting plot lines, and good looking actors. I would probably re-watch the cute romantic scenes. Typically 31 episodes would be borderline too long for me. The fact that I continued watching and completed the show means that others may enjoy it as well.

Lying or Not Revealing the Truth

Is there a difference between lying and not revealing the truth? To me, there is. Do articulation and lying mean the same thing? To me, they don’t. However, in this drama, it takes a broad stroke to cover the meaning of lying: not revealing the truth is lying, and articulation is lying. I do not agree with the writer and find this as flaw which permeates throughout the story. Having said that, I have still enjoyed this drama because of the male lead character’s frankness, and the female lead character’s diplomatic approaches.

One of the many flaws we have in us is we love flattery languages. We often feel hurt when we hear the truth about ourselves. Fang Zhi You (Xin Yun Lai) is a very frank and direct person. He doesn’t like to beat around the bush or use flowery language to flatter; he just says things as they are. To many, he’s crude. Though he doesn’t have a face that melts hearts immediately, Xin Yun Lai’s acting is to the point as a dull, unflattering Fang Zhi You. He maintains a serious looking face with few facial expressions. His ‘no cheating’ quality persuades everyone around him, including Xu Yi Ren (Liang Jie), to trust and love him. Deep inside, he is a sweet and kind man.

Xu Yi Ren on the other hand is very diplomatic. She can defuse a tensed situation with her quick wit and a few kind and diplomatic words. She helps others to save face and step down without escalating matters further. I feel she has been wrongly labelled as a girl who likes to lie. To me, such qualities should not be considered as dishonesty but a very precious diplomatic skill. As a new actor, Liang Jie has played this role very well.

Both Fang Zhi You and Xu Yi Ren have qualities that complement and supplement each other, and enable them to start their love relationship from the very beginning through the end of the drama. Their relationship has never flinched. She is his pillar supporting him all the time without conditions, and he’s always there protecting her. They trust and are devoted to each other.

This is a very easy drama to watch, not too many conflicts to resolve, and a very cute and intelligent little sister to love. There are multiple love triangles, a second couple and an evil sister. The storyline is a bit cliche and some scenes are tropey as expected in Chinese dramas. Not outstanding but sweet and enough chemistry to make viewers feel the love and loved.

Read the story line, see Liang Jie as the main cast intrigue my interest to watch. The story itself really intriguing. A man who never tell lie... Hm... Catchy right. Lets watch... B)

This drama about: love can makes us be better or worst person. No matter how good we try to cover our lie it will come to light & how lie can effect or hurt the people we lie to. Family and pride which one is more important...

In Xu Yi Ren (YR) and Fang Zhi You (ZY) case, they make each other better. ZY from can't tolerate people who lie, slowly began understand there is something behind every lie. YR from often lie, began encourage herself to become truthful.

But in case He Yu Wen (YW) the love become so ugly, only to bring the worst of her to surface. What YR said is so true. YW love at the end not really love but maybe because she doesn't want to lose to YR... What do you think...? ;)

Never find out people more selfish than He Yu Qing & her mother. Really selfish without needing to explain.

By the way for you and drama that always said: 'if only i met you first meet i will be the one for you.' This drama have the answer for you. Even though a little bit cheesy but what YR said is true. It's not about who you meet first, but who your destiny is... ;)

What i like:
- ZY is sometimes really stupid, but so adorable.... Especially when he drunk
- At the end of each episode there is drawing of the drama.
- Fang shi yu is so cute, smart & adorable
- Li Zhe (LZ) not a stupid man who will do anything in the name of love
- ZY & LZ in become friend again in the end

Overall: very good drama to watch, but not to re-watch...

Great acting & sweet romance saves this cliche drama

On the surface this looks like a drama about lying versus being honest but it’s really about so much more than that. It did touch on how important it is to have a balance between being painfully honest and not being honest enough. But at its core it’s really a story about an orphan girls journey from always having to suppress her true feelings and living to please others to finally standing up for herself. Her whole life she’s lied, not because she enjoyed it, but because it was her only choice. Pretending she was okay and covering over things with lies was the only way she could survive growing up, so it became a part of her personality. Seeing her overcome these issues and grow as a person was a pleasure to watch. I appreciated that she didn’t suddenly change and become perfect overnight which isn’t very realistic. It was a gradual process with many setbacks that really had me rooting for her. And when she finally confronts those who hurt her and stands up for herself, I was so happy!

Another big part of the story is about a young man that was so traumatized by a terrible lie that it tore his family apart. As a result, he made a solemn vow to never lie to anyone no matter what. Unfortunately, that vow ends up alienating him from everyone, making him lonely and miserable. He learns that even though being honest is important, being brutally honest can be just as hurtful as being lied to. He also learns that love is about accepting not only your partners good qualities, but it’s about accepting their bad qualities too.

This storyline is full of cliches. There’s the second female lead who’s a longtime friend that’s obsessed with the male lead (even though he’s completely uninterested in her), which I’ve seen hundreds of times. Then there’s the cliche rich CEO that falls for the poor girl. And of course the second male lead is obsessed with the female lead too. And I can’t tell you how many times the female lead accidentally fell into the male leads arms. It also gets a little cheesy sometimes too. So why did I give this drama such a high rating? The acting is absolutely phenomenal in this drama, especially the main leads. When the female lead finally claps back at the bad guys, her acting was so good that I was cheering out loud. And when the male lead gives his speech about how he learned that loving someone means loving everything about them including their flaws, I was sincerely touched.

This drama also has some great side characters, like the male leads smart feisty little sister. She steals the show. And the female leads best friend is so cute and funny. This drama may be full of cliches but it’s also full of really cute funny moments. It was so cute how, when she thought he wasn’t looking, the female lead would stick her tongue out at the male lead not knowing he often saw her. Then his little smirk like he found it cute was so endearing. Being a fan of Marvel I really enjoyed the female leads nickname for the male lead being Thanos. And his face when he found out about the nickname was absolutely hilarious. I loved the comedy, it was really good.

The romance was one of the things that made this drama stand out. The leads are not only very attractive but they have great chemistry. I like how the male lead is so touchy feely with the female lead. I don’t think any other drama I’ve watched (and I’ve watched a LOT) has had as many hugs as this one. He’s always hugging on her and they’re long cuddly hugs too. And his jealousy is too cute. It was refreshing to see real kisses with lots of skinship that felt comfortable and realistic. I give top marks to the romance aspect of this drama.

Even though this drama is flawed with lots of cliche overused drama tropes and a predictable storyline, the acting, great side characters, and sweet romance make this drama worth watching. If you like sweet, light, fluffy romantic comedies that are low on angst and high on sweet touching moments, then this is the drama for you. None of the angst is too over the top or makes you scream at the tv. And I really like that once the leads get together there’s no noble idiocy or breakups over stupid misunderstandings. They have disagreements and ignore each other for a short time (with good reason) but never truly breakup. If there were less cliche drama tropes, the story was more original, and things weren’t quite so predictable, it would have been a perfect drama. Nonetheless, this drama was touching and memorable. I’m glad I watched it and would definitely recommend it to others.

Just finished watch this drama and it feels so good... this is a typical C-drama that will be acceptable and will make you like it because it's a sweet and lovable story. The only thing that is different with another C-drama is the characteristic of the ML who is cold, too direct, hate lies, and unable to lie. This is very interesting and the Xin Yun Lai nailed it! He is really charming, cute as hell, and his character development was superb, and can't wait for his future drama as a ML.
On the other hand, the FL like to tell white lies and it's really normal because who has never been tell lies...

However this kind of story is easy to watch, and I don't really hate the FL because she is independent, kind, but still brave enough to maintain her relationship with the ML (when she talked back to ML's father and He Yu Wen) except her relationship with her aunt and cousin who was very rude and evil. They really don't deserve of her kindness.
For the second male lead, I know that probably not everyone will like him, but he was really kind and a good friend until the incident happened and make him loses trust to his friendship with ML. And we know that in fact he was in love with the FL but he gave in because he know that love can't be forced and still although he hate the ML and wanted to take revenge but deep in his heart, he still care to the ML. The only one that disappointed me was the second FL.
She was really outstanding woman at first, great partner for ML and good sister for the FL (because she was the first one who trust FL to worked there) but because of jealousy she changed and betrayed ML again.
AND I believe the most fav supporting cast goes to Fang Shi Yu (ML little sister). She was really awesome, the one that makes main leads to become couple and help the FL when she was being hurt because of her rude aunt. Oh yes, the second couple which is Gu Bo and Xia DI, they was really a cute couple. They proves that age gap is not a really big problem when they are in love (definitely more love to this couple rather than the second couple in my previous drama, Love designer).

To sum up, I will say that this drama was satisfying and I like the ending. The main couple really have a great chemistry, and unlike the other drama that will always have a break up session, this one was not! Last but not least, I like that the ML said in the end of the drama that marriage itself is a big lie. That lies tells us that marriage is happy and everlasting, because sometimes the couple will argue, have disagreement, or misunderstanding each other. But because of the FL, he started to believe that all lies can come true. And I really recommend you all to watch this enjoyable and easy to watch drama.

Mr Honesty - call me

Likes: Mimics all the usual kdrama scenarios, but in a more realistic way. The ML is an honest guy who never lies...so basically a myth.

Dislikes: I could only find the dubbed version. It's too long. The FL's relatives made me wish I had a super power that could fry people to a crisp. What?

This is your typical workplace romcom: rich self made CEO with difficult parents, the poor but kind orphan girl who always tries her best. A foe who wants revenge and winds up creating a love triangle. You can tell they borrowed quite a few of the kdrama milestones, but they approached it all in a more realistic way that I appreciated.

Even just the typical arm yank looked natural and had a reason so it didn't feel so in your face like Heeeey, gotta yank the arm in a dramatic fashion now because well...no reason...just every drama needs to have an arm yank. There was a natural progression and reaction to the skinship that made it feel like a real couple and not so pointed.

I also really liked that the ML was an honest guy who "never" lies. This opens up the discussion about honesty. Is honesty always the best policy? And you see this drama explore that with the OTP's relationship. I enjoyed that aspect.

The drama was way too long though and I did wind up skipping some of the side lines, but overall I thought it was cute,

Not gonna lie, I enjoy this drama so much. It's entertaining and cute. I love the chemistry between the ML and FL. The ML's acting is so good, he's so natural and play the character so well. His character is so strong that impact others role and play in this drama. I'm sure I will watch every drama of him!

I've watched a few of FL's drama and I love her on this drama. Even though I don't like her character here, sometimes annoying and stupid, but I always love every scenes her with ML. Their kiss scenes are my favorite lol and I love their gestures as a couple, natural and not exaggerate.

The story is ordinary with childhood memories. Not something new but quite unique because of the inability to tell lies of ML. That's why I love the ML's character, it's suit him so well. Also, I love the teasers of this drama, even though the drama is not as entertaining the teasers.

Some support characters are good, like the childhood friend, the partner of ML, building a good story. But I hate the FL's relatives, her aunt and cousin huh their characters are the worst. I want them have a sad ending but the happy ending of the main characters are good enough to make forget about them lol.

Overall, this drama is good and I will watch every drama of the ML :)

Sweet Lies

Never tell a lie, or all lies get exposed, this series was all sweet lies.

I would say I am yet to meet anyone who hasn't in there life told a white lie every now and then? However despite the cold CEO and the mischievous little assistant, I enjoyed the story and the characters were well played and matched, I especially enjoyed the FL, her character as the assistant was well matched with the ML, and his cold personality.

What I liked, the FL shortcomings, developed since she was a child from a plausible survival instinct and they are balanced as she starts to improve her character when finally in the presence of real love. This has been the only exception I didn't mind a FL lying. The second FL I did not see that turn around coming from her, she started off really well, then turned nasty the minute she found competition, I honestly thought she had come around after first exposure and the scheme she pulled then she was given a second chance, and she goes and fake a friendship and still tries her luck at the FL friends wedding, if that was not a slap then i have no idea what was? she did it again for the third time by stealing the designs, really for me that was the line drawn no matter, she came through in the end.

there was no break up scene, male lead's love was strong and he was always and protective.
- Fang Zhiyou and Li Zhe friendship after they made up. Great team work. I wish we had seen more of those. It wasn't shown until the last 1.5 episode.
- Shiyu! so adorable and probably the most mature of them all.
