A cliche made right

This drama, to be honest, is so fluffy with cringeworthy moments, but nonetheless, I had a lot of fun watching it. Having watched a lot of intense and suspense-packed dramas recently, I needed something lighthearted and cheesy and Koi Wa Tsuzuku Yo Doko Made Mo was a very pleasant break. The story is very cliche and predictable, but it did have a few heartfelt moments and when a cliche is made right, it can be very fruitful.
I loved the acting and the FL made the show so much more cheerful to watch.
I probably won't rewatch it because of how simple the drama is, but I feel like many people definitely will rewatch it for the exact same reason. The supporting characters could have had a better and stronger storyline which was the only place I was disappointed.
Definitely worth a watch though.

I wasn't originally planning on watching this title, but decided to give it a go, and happily watched the entire show. It's a light, fluffy rom-com, with some medical drama thrown in.
The chemistry between the two leads was great, I loved it, and the two leads were likable in their own ways. Sakura was a bit of a cringy ditz sometimes, but not enough to overly irritate me and I liked how eventually she moved away from the goal of simply getting the guy, and invested more into being a nurse.
I think what disappointed me a bit was the side characters and how their own endings were rushed. Little investment saw little payoff.
Plots like meeting families was a rush job, but I find Japanese dramas like this never delve too deep into certain story lines, so I didn't bring my star rating down.
Overall, a quick binge weekend show.

I came across this Japanese drama through a fan-made video in YouTube. I immediately fell in love with the chemistry of the male and female leads, including the story itself. The drama is really similar to another Japanese drama (e.g. Mischievous Kiss); however, there were some parts that were different.

Honestly, I was a bit worried about whether this drama was going to be extremely cheesy. This drama does have some cheesy scenes though, but I didn't mind them too much! It was super cute. Throughout my time watching this drama, I was fan-girling and squealing over every single scene that the leads had together. I was way too addicted with this drama like to the point I was rewatching fan-made videos of them. The acting of both Kamishiraishi Mone and Sato Takeru was amazing in this drama. Overall, this drama was really fun, and I was satisfied with the flow and ending. Would I watch the drama again? Yes, on days when I'm feeling a sweet romance drama.

I have enjoyed this so much that I really felt the necessity of writing a review. First of all, I think this drama is not for everyone. If you like romantic and funny light/simple dramas to disconnect, laugh and have a wonderful time this is definitely for you. Its not the biggest discovery because there is nothing new at all but if you like these kind of dramas, this drama precisely will make you smile and have fun and you will potentially end up loving it!

Story - I really liked the story. Is not a new plot at all, however, I have to admit that I usually really enjoy this kind of simple romantic stories with no weird/complicated plots that sometimes tend to be too much. In fact, I have read the manga and I think this story is much more better (less complicated and more "real"?). I also liked the fact that the writers made an effort to add medical cases and not focusing only in the main leads story. The only thing I may dislike is the story between the ML's sister and the nurse. It felt incomplete/not well wrapped up.

Cast - I am a Sato Takeru fan and in this drama he was amazing. He really brings to life the ML! Even though he plays a poker-face character, I think he managed to transmit the ML feelings, background, reasons he acts in a certain way, etc. very well. The actress playing the FL also did a good job. She portrays the typical cute lovable FL, however, I do think she did well transmitting her nervousness when the ML was close to her. But definitely Sato Takeru's contribution is what made this drama so enjoyable and hello? Those kisses? OMG I didn't expect that at all (-_-) I think I have just felt in love again.

Music - I had dreams with that song, imagine how much I liked the main song in my subconscious. Plus, what the hell, that song really fitted the majority of the situations!

Rewatch value - I have watched this already 2 times (blame the quarantine), so yes, definitely 10/10.

This drama took me by surprise - I found it randomly after I had written my review on another drama and saw that someone had given it an amazing review. I was stuck trying to find something to watch and didn't want to commit to something super long as well as a quick watch in the meantime to give another on-air drama some time to come out with more episodes before I started. Little did I know, that this drama would become one of my all-time favorite j-dramas and make my favorites from my 2020 list.

The plot wasn't super original, but I also have never watched a "hospital drama" and I think this was a good intro. This was about a high schooler named Sakura who during an important time in her life, ran into Tendo, a resident at the hospital, that introduced to her new passion in life - winning over his heart and studying to be a nurse to get close to him. And throughout this drama, Sakura is still motivated by her love of Tendo and trying hard to win over his heart, but also come to find out that she has a knack for being a nurse. Maybe not in the "traditional" obvious way of physically healing someone that only seems to matter to Dr. Tendo, but realizing that "emotional" healing is very important as well. Yes...it did pain me seeing Sakura being only really good at blood draws and messing up everything else, but once she found her groove, she realized that she did have her own motivation at her job and added her unique flair to the position. In the process, she was "emotionally healing" Dr. Tendo's heart, which broke years prior, unintentionally.

Dr. Tendo's character was the obvious, not super original, brutting doctor who is all about work and healing everyone by any means. Which is good, but he was so wrapped up in healing people physically, he never thought about the person as a person - except for the one outlier, Anrie.

I loved how both characters went through classic character development but in two different ways. Dr Tendo needed to learn how to trust in other people and listen to other's insights, as well as learn that it isn't all about "saving everyone" but helping people live, so they can "die the way they wish." There was this whole scene. Sakura needed to learn to be her own motivator as well as learn that sometimes it isn't enough to just try your best, but the be your best.

But I think my favorite part in this whole drama was the slow-burning romance on Dr. Tendo's side. I felt bad for Sakura for the most part because she already knew what she wanted, and she stayed put, waiting. Dr. Tendo, on the other hand, needed a little more time, which is fine given his situation, but I enjoyed the slow-burning romance because Dr. Tendo needed the time to get to know Sakura and fall in love with every piece of her. And when he did...OMG....his smile was worth the wait. The secret little half-smiles he tried to hide in the beginning were everything. He also never faltered when he was just getting to know her or started to like her a little. He was in completely when he wanted to get to know her. Given, I was a little skeptical in the beginning because of his little put-downs, but I think it was the first thing he fell in love with - her determination and spirit.

I loved the stories of the different people who came into the hospital, that she helped out. The way they helped Sakura grow in her position as well as show her coworkers and Dr, Tendo that she was an asset.

I think the reason why I couldn't give this a full 10 though, was because of the side romances. I felt that Dr. Koichi's "romance" if you can call it that, was random, and was only put in because they wanted everyone to be happy. Not only that, but Nishi Ryusei's crush that turned into romance was also a completely different story or spinoff that could have been executed better. I feel like I didn't know him as a side character enough to root for him. Also, the whole time, I felt that this hospital that everyone worked at, was full of age gapped relationships. Which is fine...but we didn't have a single romance with two people that were close in age. All the doctors wanted to date nurses and it felt a little overplayed that I didn't too much about the minor characters.

Other than that, I felt like the relationship between Tendo and Sakura wasn't rushed nor laggy. One part of their relationship did seem very random and fast, but maybe it was a way for Tendo to tell Sakura that he wanted to pursue her, and no one else, and only thought of one way to do that.

I almost feel bad saying this because, despite the very cliched story (I mean this is based on a manga after all), I did enjoy it. Would I watch it again? Nope. Maybe the extra 15 minutes story added after each episode because those were fun.

As for the characters. I don't know why but the lead female, Sakura Nanase, irks me so much. To me she doesn't feel like a real character nor is she interesting. She is in every way a Mary Sue. Her faults are not really faults, everybody's lives seem to revolve around her, and her incompetence is often overlooked. The other characters give her way to much credit than she deserves and frankly in a real-life hospital, she would have been fired ages ago. It seems like her "quirks" were intentionally written to make her endearing. Endearing to some but not a fully fleshed-out character. She is a flat and boring character in every sense (or maybe that's how the actress plays her). Maybe if this character were given to a better-skilled actress, it would have been better. Which is sad because this show has a lot of really great female characters who are underused but have potential. Ruuyuko and Sakai are two good female characters that have so much to offer to their storylines. Ruuyuko is a woman who feels out of place in the world she is in so she turns to all forms of escapism. Sakai, the very capable nurse, is burdened by the shadow of her former nurse mother. I feel like these two female characters were much better than Sakura. As for the male characters, for what he's given with Satoh plays Dr. Tendo very well but his character suffers because his storylines revolve around Sakura. It's a shame that he doesn't get much but he still does it and gives the character a whole lot more depth. Satoh could lead a whole series as we've seen in The Emperor's Cook. Lastly, I liked the ensemble cast here. I'd love to learn more about the other nurses, doctors and side characters. Too bad most of it is focused on the lead female who is dull as a rock.

Misogynistic trite

I understand that one has to put up with cultural differences in everything one watches, but it is 2021, and Viki and the like are still purchasing licenses for series that put down women from the start to the end. The message is of accepting and normalising that a woman can and should be happy with being called idiot absolutely non-stop. That bullying behaviour is shown as acceptable and desirable. Young women would watch this and think that this is ok. Men would watch this and be reinforced in these kinds of behaviours and beliefs. This is how it becomes normalised for women to be bullied and harassed at work, and to be subjected to pay inequalities. This is how women’s confidence and self-esteem are destroyed on a daily basis. This is how women become victims of violence.
As I said, it is 2021. It doesn’t matter if this is still accepted in Japan, but as Viki and others broadcast this kind of content, Viki and others are responsible for disseminating misogynistic beliefs and behaviour worldwide. As a company, Viki and others should urgently reconsider their ethical and moral code, and stop supporting and contributing to normalising the abuse of women in any way, shape or form.

Firstly, the reason why I decided to watch this is because of Satoh Takeru. As for Mone, I'm a little new to her but I think, I saw her a lot in other dramas or movies. But as the story goes on, she became adorable to watch. This drama, for me, is like Itazura Na Kiss. A romance story between a doctor and nurse, and the personality is quite the same. The male lead is serious type and the female lead is easy going & stupid. I'm always excited to watch the next episodes because the chemistry between Mone and Satoh is really lovable. You will be curious on how their relationship will grow. The lesson I got from this drama is even you are struggling on any aspect of your life, you will surely be fine if you remain true to yourself and perseverance! Additionally, you all must listen to the OST, "I LOVE..." by Official Hige DANdism! Can't get over that song! It fits the drama and scenes! Anyways, I'm truly recommending this drama to watch!

The relationship was unbalanced and weird

I went into it thinking that this would be a wholesome and fluffy drama that wouldn't be too dark. I was wrong. In the very first two episodes the ML was a huge a-hole, the FL was a pushover, a little girl tried to commit su*cide, and a patient the FL became friends with just died all of a sudden. So yeah, not very wholesome in my books.

The thing that bothered me the most in this drama however were the leads and their relationship. I normally don't have a problem with age gaps, if both people in the relationship are consenting adults that don't have a big difference in maturity. In this drama's case, "difference in maturity" is a key term. If I counted correctly, the ML and FL had at least 5-8 years age difference, AND THAT DEFINITELY SHOWED. A lot of the time the FL looked and acted like an actual child, even though she was supposedly 23 years old, which is basically my age. And even to me the FL was very childish, a human door mat and even really annoying at times. She made a huge life altering decision to become a nurse just because she had a crush on a random guy she met ONCE??

And don't even get me started with the ML. From the very beginning pretty much to the last episode he was really cold and did not express any other emotion than annoyance or indifference. That didn't really change as the drama went on, his character development was absolutely nonexistent. I literally snorted and said "B!tch WHERE" when he said "She was the one who changed me." about the FL, because he was literally the same person at the beginning and the end. It took 9/10 episodes before that useless dude got the words "I like you" out of his mouth, and at that point they had already "dated" for several episodes?? Even the way they started "dating" was absolutely ridiculous, he just basically said "OK fine I'll be your boyfriend" out of nowhere and that was IT?? Not to mention that he even proposed to her after knowing her for like what, a few weeks, or a few months tops? That's so stupid. Also the squinting thing the ML did with his eyes all the time to supposedly look somehow "cool" or "mysterious" just made him look ridiculous. So yeah, TLDR: the ML was cold and uncharismatic for the entire drama, and the FL was a childish doormat who let the ML walk all over her and pretty much thanked him for it afterwards. Also I can not fathom HOW on earth did not just one or two but FOUR men all fall for Sakura?? She was so annoying and childish it didn't make any sense to me. Unless the thing they all liked about her was that she was very child-like... but that's a whole other creepy suitcase to unpack and I don't really wanna go there.

Overall, to me the relationship between Sakura and Tendo didn't feel natural, healthy or balanced. Sakura was absolutely obsessed with Tendo for 5 years, and she was very vocal about her feelings, and the energy that Tendo gave to Sakura wasn't even close to what Sakura was giving to him. They started dating but it didn't feel like it at all because it was handled in such a weird way. Tendo did not say a word to Sakura about liking her before like the second last episode. Also Tendo was clearly more experienced in relationships, which also made their relationship unbalanced. Their whole relationship felt very weird to me and I didn't think they were a good match at all. I also didn't feel a lot of chemistry between them, I think mostly because Sakura was so childish and Tendo so cold. So yeah needless to say I did not enjoy this drama, if you did, fine, but it was just not my cup of tea at all.

EDIT: Ohhh I just checked the lead actors' profiles and Sakura's actress was 21-22 at the time this drama aired, and Tendo's actor was 30, no wonder I felt iffy about them together :/ I'm literally the same age as Sakura's actress, we were born on the same year, and even a thought of having to kiss a man in his 30s creeps me out even if it was just acting.

An enjoyable drama

This was a one damn good drama, the leads are pretty (which is an important thing Lol), The story plot was smooth with no serious misunderstandings or conflicts, the comedy was good and their acting is on point, I liked how they expressed the definition of doctors and nurses, I liked the teamwork and the cherishment of lives, and a very important point; the number of episodes is just right and the length of each episode isn't long which makes it un boring since I've suffered lately from the extra unnecessary no. of episodes in my dramas, it could've gotten a 9/10 but no because of the dumbness of the FL and the kind of rudeness of the ML (your typical Jdrama) but they had a good growth of character throughout the episodes so it wasn't annoying like other similar themed dramas. in conclusion, it was a delightful enjoyable show.

100% Worth rewatching

This is one of a few dramas that I would rewatch again even If I already finished it not too long ago. If you're into a sweet and fun romantic drama where the ML is a tsundere while the FL is energetic and happy , then this drama is for you!

Not only the chemistry between the main couple is great, but the chemistry with the other characters, especially staffs at the hospital, is also great! It makes the drama even more enjoyable to watch.

// Small spoilers
Nanase is really energetic, bubbly and determined, but doesn't really have a big tendencies of being stupid even if she makes a few mistakes. Kairi definitely look cold and stoic outside, but he can be sweet and affectionate sometimes, even if it looks like he has no emotions, for example when he patted Nanase's head in front of the staffs saying she's his girlfriend in a very chill way(one of my favorite scenes, still fangirls over this part!). It's refreshing actually to see that. In a drama, don't want to see a female or male lead who acts too energetic to the point of commiting multiple stupid acts and a male or female lead who is emotioneless 99% of the time.
The only thing I dislike the most about it is the constant interruption by Ryuko almost everytime Nanase and Kairi kissed. Well it's also Nanase's fault like lock your door girl!
I really like the seond couple Ryuko and Ryusei. They are so cute together. I just hope there's way more moments with this couple. Well, I just wish there's more episodes. //

Overall, I'm really satisfied with the drama, definitely worth rewatching!
