The colours! The needless melodrama! The genuine emotions!!

I had the time of my life with this show, let me tell you.
At first it intrigued me by taking an age-old soulmate trope (age-old to fanfiction writers anyway - thank you for your service, gentlefolk), giving it a bit of spit and polish, and turning it into an actual TV show.
Then it entertained me with its wonderful, over-the-top teen angst. When you're young all of your emotions are just way too big for your body to contain, every moment of joy is magnified, every failure evokes utter despair, and love... well, that feels just a little bit like the end of the world.
Really good stories know how to lean into this and provide thoughtful, realistic portrayals of youth that audiences of all ages can enjoy. Best-selling stories know how to take these emotions to their extremes and that's how you get delightful abominations like Twilight.
This show, I thought, is going to be gay soulmate Twilight and I am here for every ludicrous second of it!

But then, finally, the series completely hooked me by somehow being none and all of the above at the same time.
The plot is indeed something straight out of a fanfiction, but the general tone, pacing, and writing make it all seem fresh and new.
The characters and their emotions are intense, dramatic, and utterly, disarmingly sincere. Forget being shielded by a thick layer of sheer mirth, this show punched its way straight through all my silly, goofy expectations and demanded I actually care about its characters.
Yes, the story is still somewhat ridiculous and over-the-top, there's unresolved plot-threads galore, and most of the angst could have been avoided if only everyone involved just went to therapy.
But the characters feel real and there is such genuine care, love, and humour woven into the script it actually makes you sit up and listen. Someone clearly had a vision for this story, they knew what they were making and they pulled it off exactly as planned.
But why, why this combination of deep care and utter ludicrousness?
Well, to me it all starts to make sense if you consider the show as a parable. And I don't just mean the clear thematic metaphors of queer love and homophobia, though lord knows there's those as well.
No, I mean the drama as a whole. The vast and unfamiliar world we're thrust into and expected to accept unquestioningly. The extreme highs and lows of emotions, the hurried pacing, the picture-perfect happy ending, the COLOURS.
It's a parable, and a damn effective one at that, about fear and desire and a desperate, clawing search for love.
It teaches us that, though freedom, love, and identity can feel overwhelming and all-consuming if you've been deprived of them, there is nothing more important than opening yourself up to them anyway and that, once you do, you won't be swept away by some uncontrollable force, no, life just sort of... continues. It becomes ordinary, beautifully mundane even.

Maybe I'm reading to much into it all, maybe this really is gay soulmate Twilight and if you enjoy it that way, that's fine too.
But to me this is a really rather clever little drama which uses a highly stylised format to incisively analyse the terrors of love and desire from a distinctly queer viewpoint.
There are honestly endless ways to enjoys this series so give it a try - watch it and see, maybe you'll get something entirely different and unique out of the experience.

ive liked the whole atmosphare that this show gave me. The Actors are well choosen & it was really something different so touching in every detail and ive learned due to the Show even more about colors. Such a well done and great working show. I hope this show gets a 2nd Season, its my Favourite Korean BL Drama ive seen for now ! Actually its my first Review ive ever wrote on MyDramalist so it really has to mean something, Its actually really interesting the whole Concept of Mono and probe. Ive never thought that it will catch me but i couldnt stop watching actually since Episode one ! But we really need to talk about something (TRIGGER WARNING) the selfharm was so sad that i legiit started crying because he didnt wanted to hurt Yoo Han, but selfharm is never the answer or help! I Loved how they focused about the relationship and not only on the news stuff how a mono has to be, but also would have loved to see more about the story of Yeon Woo's mother ! If there getting a Season 2 i really hope they focus on this abit more, Im So Happy about the Ending tho !!

A solid 10

I think this is one of the very few, if not the first solid 10 Im giving out.
Script, cinography, music, acting, costumes, everything was topnotch from first to last scene.
Every episode was full and rich.
It was a different topic, even in a school enviroment they made it exceptionally beautiful.

This was touching and so poetic. There was another and different level of intimacy I haven't seen in a long time.
The last episode made me weep and scream (or squeal) like I dont know.
Past last episode, it draw me to rewatch it again TWICE and it was just as magical as first time.
IT IS THAT GOOD imo.

A work of art!

I'm honestly stunned more people aren't watching this - I'm only up to episode 6 and have yet to see whether Korea are sticking to their new foray into the BL genre, but whether or not they do, this drama is already a must see! (I'll probably update this when it's all over).
The story and premise is fantastic, with a plot that moves sedately despite the 15 mins per episode. It has a slow build, but every moment feels well thought out and becomes something close to a work of art. Particular highlights come in the form of the 'rush' that occurs every time Yoo Han unmasks and the visit to the art exhibition in episode 5. It's beautifully written, acted and shot, to create a drama that has the makings of being one of the best BL dramas I have ever seen and with none of the usual tropes. This is fresh and beautiful so far, so get watching people!

The one that brings you color to your gray life

They say that you know true love when you see it. This story takes it to another level. You have a color-blind person in a world that can only another person can bring you color. But what if you are afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone?

The acting of the main characters makes you want more from them. Their movements and facial expressions are very delicate with a hint of exploration. At least, one knows that it has an upper hand on this new and unexplored relationship.

This story is very different with great visual FX. Unfortunately, the episodes are very short, but very tasteful.

Not your regular BL

The story revolves around the characters and there development. Although it's from Choi Yeon Woo's point of view, in the end the twist really takes the cake. It's about looking beyond your shortcomings and not giving in to the stereotype created around you. The love depicted in the drama doesn't come from someone's orientation but from the need. It's a one of a kind story that touches your heart.

The acting is not the best but not the worst.

The most beautiful lines were given to Goo Yoo Han's character but the actor fell short and flat expressing them. I wished he was a bit more animated and resonated feelings in his voice and face. The actor playing Choi Yeon Woo had his hit and misses too. Overall they could make me understood the story so I am not too mad about it.

I would recommend people watching it just for the story and development.

My honest review about Color Rush.

This is my honest review about Color Rush. For me Color Rush is one of the best Korean BL I’ve seen. Everything is totally nice and unique. The story line is so unique. Like it's my first time to encounter this kind of series like being a color-blind and a face blind. I'm totally amazed by it. If we talked about the chemistry about the two actors all I can say its epic. You may feel some awkwardness between them, it's because they only meet in a short time and after that they start filming, but you can't actually say they are awkward because they are both comfortable to each other.  What I didn’t like about the series is the series is short. Like for me, I'm not satisfied of some scene in the series. I already read the book of Color Rush and its pretty well amazing. If they could only make the series kinda longer it will be so nice. For me this BL is unique and epic. On the best so far I’ve seen in my life.

PS: This based on my opinion only.

i only watched this drama end this morning. but it has become one of my favorites .. this chemistry is just beautiful and you can tell that it sparked immediately. this story is just made so cool .. but I sometimes found this processing where he saw the colors for the first time was not so good I don't know that looked strange, in spite of everything it's such a beautiful bl and I think it's so beautiful that they were sweet from the start. One of them was a bit reluctant and tried not to like him, but nevertheless these moments were sweet .. you could tell that the 2 loved each other. they played it all very well !! it is definitely recommended

Don’t listen to bad reviews those ppl music be blind to how sweet this drama is! I loved the acting! And Hyunjoon (ex Hwall from the boyz) did such a good job with this being his first ever drama! I am so proud of him! I would do many things to be able to get a season 2 of this drama! I really love it! I could watch it over and over!

I LOVED IT

I loved how interesting and unique the plot was. I don't think there is any bl's like this one at all. It's why it is so cool to see Korea breaking out into the scene, because they're bringing in their really interesting and unique writing. I just wish they were longer. I honestly checked it out, because of the ex the boyz member, because I am an extremely casual fan of theirs. But I fell and feel HARD for Yoojun. I think he was truly the highlight of the series, an extremely good actor and honestly I like people who look like him visually (shallow I know). I think Yoohan was at sometimes a little pushy and overbearing of Yeonwoo, but the series helps to explain WHY near the end. The colors were visually STUNNING (I love bright colors I'm honestly a neon hoe in series). The soundtrack I actually noticed and liked while watching. Overall, I'm hyped for season two and hope we can find out more about the mystery surrounding Yeonwoo's mom.

Tw // kind of graphic suicide attempt near the end of the series.

I love this one an unhealthy amount but-

I can admit that the concept is what absolutely blows my mind the most with this extremely short drama!
There are no words to describe how much I love it. It is, in fact, so interesting and has so much potential for further development, that I'm willing to overlook a lot of the rather unfortunate issues this drama has.

It is a very short, very small (in more ways than one) drama that completely took me over.

The production was clearly tiny, there are about two sets and some outside locations, the cast is really only centered around two people and each episode if only 15min long.
However, those 15min carry a punch! The concept between Mono's and Probe's is fascinating, especially since Choi Yeon Woo's fear of falling hopelessly obsessed with the one person who can make him see colors in his so-far gray-toned world is juxtaposed with Go Yoo Han's complete willingness and desire to be obsessed over, since he in turn is already infatuated with Choi Yeon Woo - the only person who's face he can recognize.
It's such a great concept and even though Go Yoo Han's actor Hurhyun Jun is still a newbie who was somewhat flat in some scenes, Yoo Jun's acting hit it out of the park in every. single. frame.
He was absolutely fantastic as the extremely conflicted Choi Yeon Woo, who is terrified of becoming obsessed with his Probe and his assumption that such obsession can only lead to tragedy.

There are some issues with the story that can't be overlooked - Choi Yeon Woo's mother has been missing for years and this is a plot that is supposedly the framing device of the lovestory forming. However it gets relegated to the sidelines and later forgotten all together. Choi Yeon Woo's suicide attempt gets exactly ZERO reaction from anyone, not his aunt, not his supposed love interest. I liked the plottwist that instead of hurting Go Yoo Han, Choi Yeon Woo instead decided to hurt himself so he can never hurt his Probe, but that whole aspect of the story got no further development at all and it literally felt like his suicide attempt had never even happened. He is also left completely alone with his fear of obsession and nobody, not even his aunt, tries to explain to him that a tragic outcome for a Mono/Probe pair is not a guaranteed ending.

It felt like many aspects were underdeveloped, unexplored or just thrown in at the very end to fill some holes. All in all the biggest problem this drama had was it's limited timeframe.

Art.

The synopsis alone had me hooked and this didn't disappoint. I think it would have done really well as a longer series with more time to really explore his mother's disappearance as well as Yoo Han's life. Personally, I find that the first two episodes are absolutely flawless. The show as a whole isn't perfect but it's still really good and probably the best it could be for such a short series. They got me twice with twists and I loved it.
Yoo Han turns up and I'm like "woah this guy is cool" but then he turns out to be such a gentle soul and a sweetheart, I'm swooning.
The soundtrack, especially the music during Yeon Woo's color rush is so good and such a perfect fit for the aesthetic they went with, which is also really gorgeous.
