Family drama mixed with supernatural and reincarnations really good but needs patience

Where do I start ?? At the beginning I was going to drop it first two or three episodes ,, it wasn't my type of drama with all the blood and monsters but then they went to modern era and it began to interest me more and more
it dragged a bit in few episodes trying to build the connections between the characters ,, to be honest the casting of the female lead wasn't the best choice ,, I love her in other dramas but in this one she made me feel detached and not rooting for her at all
with her messy style and weird colored cloths ,, her clinging to the male lead ,,it was really odd and annoying to be honest
the writers filled the drama with family moments really good connections that I loved very much
I fell in love with Do Yoon the kid he gave so much feelings for his character and made me cry every time he got hurt like he was a lost puppy ,, he looked like a lost puppy most of the time to be honest LOL
the other characters were okey
the most interesting character of them all was the evil Eul Tae WOW !!!!! he got the best style ,, the best script ,,, the best acting skills and the best evil vibe ,, he did an amazing job the whole drama may be more than the male lead
The drama didn't disappoint in matter of keeping me intrigued to watch more ,, I was waiting every week for it's episodes but it underwhelmed me at the ending a little ,, I expected that ending half way through the drama and they copied a scene from Goblin drama at the ending ,, the ending it self ,, I hoped they would give them a chance in this life time but no
The ending was a forced happy ending ,, it was rushed and so many un answered questions were there
Over all I recommend the drama because it was really good and enjoyable watch ,, I may binge watch it again in the summer to see how I feel about it as a whole not waiting every week with anticipation

Lee Joon: The villain

Horror is the last genre I pick for entertainment, I get scared easily with all the blood and ghostly immortal creatures. It had a dark aesthetic world full of monsters and Bulgasal (Immortal Creatures) which haunts, reincarnations, and curses that runs from ancient to the present.

Bulgasal has an interesting plot, full of fantasy thrillers with the unpredictable story. The history is written pretty nicely with all the characters intertwined with each other but the present story writing is quite stretched and lacking. Every episode is interesting and has a twist but sometimes the questions that arise with the twist remain unanswered in the Plot loops and I watched the next episode expecting to find those answers.
Every scene of the drama is cinematic with the color palette and lights in perfect proportion. Every episode has flashbacks, monsters, and immortal confrontations with humans. Many of them feel having the same expression with all the makeup.

Bulgasal (Kwon Na Ra) is like a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued. She has unconventional beauty which resembles immortality. Her role matches that of a solemn, optimist, and resentful lady of the past. She does a very good job.

Well, Lee Joon villain saves the day for me. He literally is my show-stealer. His villain characterization with bold wardrobe is exemplary. I picked this drama solely for LEE JOON, for I had started admiring him for a few months after watching his extensive range of acting in My Father is Strange. He is an excellent ick for the antagonist character and for the first time I am more into villain than Leads.

music is fine with my favorite is "If You Cant Forget". I really like the intricate BGM.
I would rewatch the drama to watch of course Lee Joon.

If you are a fan of fantasy, mystery, and thriller dramas, BULGASAL is a must-watch.

A MASTERPIECE

I loved every second of this kdrama. Unquestionably worth watching. The acting, the plot, the flashbacks from the past, they were all beyond perfect. I absolutely loved how they blended the past with the future. AND THE CINEMATOGRAPHY *chef's kiss*!!!!

Many are comparing this to Goblin, I can see the resemblance, but Bulgasal was in my honest opinion 10x better. Goblin was more of a romantic kdrama, whilst this was much more intense and focused on family dynamics. But It definitely surpassed Goblin.

A tale of love that span a thousand years

Loved it. I liked the switch from paranormal traditional drama to modern day paranormal drama.

The backstory was so engaging it made me hooked to the show. Their stories and histories are complicated and a bit convoluted. I think that's normal, if you're trying to tell a thousand years of history..

I was on the edge of my seat almost all the time. The show gave me the thrill, the adventure, the mystery, a few laughs, a heart tugging tears and an epic love story.

The last episode almost threw everything to the drain, the only saving grace was the consolation of a happy ending.

There are some plot holes, but are forgivable. Cast were great. OST too, they set tone of the scenes beautifully. And I would very much likely to rewatch the show.

Mindblowing Bulgasals

First of all I really enjoyed the series and how the plot is very unpredictable, I love the never ending plot twists from the beginning till the very end and honestly I did not stop watching this since you will get your attention on what's next, you will be curious in every episodes that's how I felt watching Bulgasal: Immortal Souls.

I also love the friendship and family of the leads how all of the characters are connected in the three timelines and I felt sad for the other characters but amazed on the other hand when in the next life they met again, literally in other life I would be your girl~~~ hahaha that's all

Prepare to be spellbound by Bulgasal: Immortal Souls – a gripping drama that weaves together elements of fantasy, mystery, and revenge in an epic tale spanning centuries.

At the heart of the story is Bulgasal, a man-turned-immortal who has endured six centuries of torment and anguish. Consumed by bitterness and rage, he sets his sights on a woman with a mysterious past and present, believing her to be the source of his curse and the key to his salvation.

From the very first episode, viewers are drawn into Bulgasal's world of darkness and despair. His quest for revenge is fueled by centuries of pain and suffering, making him a complex and compelling anti-hero.

But it's not just Bulgasal's story that captivates – the woman he targets, with her enigmatic past and present, adds layers of intrigue to the narrative. As their paths intertwine, secrets are revealed, alliances are tested, and the true nature of their connection becomes increasingly clear.

What sets Bulgasal: Immortal Souls apart is its rich tapestry of mythology and lore. Drawing inspiration from ancient legends and folklore, the series creates a mesmerizing world filled with supernatural beings, mystical powers, and ancient prophecies. The production values are top-notch, with stunning visuals and breathtaking cinematography that bring the fantastical elements of the story to life.

But it's the characters that truly shine in Bulgasal: Immortal Soul. Dan Hwal, portrayed with intensity and depth by Lee Jin Wook, is a tragic figure torn between his desire for vengeance and his longing for redemption. And the woman he pursues, with her own secrets and hidden agenda, keeps viewers guessing until the very end

Special mention must be made of Lee Joon's portrayal of the villain. His character, though antagonistic, evokes a sense of pity from me. Lee Joon brings a nuanced performance to the role, making the viewer feel the depths of his character's suffering and despair.

Quality Dark fiction which tickles our binge watching genes

Due to the plethora of shows with 'fiction' tag thrown at us, it is nearly impossible to actually find one that we would enjoy and re-watch later. This is one of them.

What hooked me to this series was the overall storyline and how events unfolded keeping the suspense till the last episode, with a perfect ending, giving the viewers full closure. The actors have done a fabulous job especially the villain in giving life to their respective characters'. OST was well balanced to the plot and moments.
Even with 16 episodes this one tickles our binge watching genes.

Overall a great drama to invest our 16 hours in.

Bulgasal: A Mesmerizing Blend of History and Fantasy

It’s rare for a show to pull me in so completely that I watch it in one sitting, but Bulgasal: Immortal Souls achieved just that. The unique mix of historical drama and supernatural elements, combined with a talented cast, instantly captured my attention.

The cinematography was a standout feature—every shot was beautifully crafted, enhancing the mood and immersing me in the story. The plot unfolded in a clear and deliberate way, maintaining tension and flow without ever feeling confusing. This made it easy to stay engaged and enjoy the series fully.

Admittedly, there were one or two episodes that felt a bit clichéd, but the show avoided the shallow or predictable traps common in modern dramas. It kept its intelligence intact, delivering a story that was as enjoyable as it was gripping. The beginning was especially strong, drawing me in immediately, while the ending, though slightly predictable, felt satisfying and well-rounded.

What impressed me most was the show’s consistency. It never faltered in pacing or tone, maintaining its momentum from start to finish. The visuals were stunning, but it was the soundtrack that truly elevated the experience, perfectly complementing the emotional depth of the story.

Ratings:

Story: 7.5/10

Visuals: 7.5/10

Soundtrack: 8.5/10

Personal Enjoyment: 10/10

Overall: 8.5/10

If you’re curious about Bulgasal, you’ll know by the first or second episode if it’s for you. For me, it was an unforgettable experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rewatch it.

good points?
lee joon's acting
do yun's pretty face c:
seeing hwal's hairstyle change over the years
ost, gosh I love 4men's voices
seeing a family form

bad points?
...quite a lot, gosh I really wanted to love this one
the repetitiveness and I mean this in all aspects you can think of
that damn light they shine everytime hwal and sang un are in the same frame. this is, funnily, my most hated aspect lol
the 2d characters
...the romance :/

honestly the drama started a bit strong but it went downhill maybe from episode 6 or so. as with so many other dramas, it was unnecessarily stretched. 10 episodes would've done it more justice but it is what it is.

Tormentous but intense, romantic tale of posssessive love

The ending was good...better than I expected.
My only complaint is that the female lead was not upto par with the male lead when it comes to sensitivity. And the male lead wasn't that bad at all. After all, the humans made him that way 1000 yrs ago. The female lead should've understood that & forgiven the male lead 1000 yrs back itself. From what I see, she was one of the main source of all complications & messed up fate of the main male lead. The male lead had too much faith in her for his own good. Such a pity. But the ending made up for what was lacking in the their initial backstory & the plot as a whole --- somewhat.

The backstory of the main leads 1000 yrs ago ( minus the sidekicks) had huge potential. Such a pity all of that got erased by a poorly designed plot.
The story could've been made thousand times better and rosier--- not moodier!

Hope there will be a season 2 with a more epic but simpler, rosier story revolving around the male lead and the same, but wiser, more sensible female lead with no unnecessary side stories and convoluted complications. Only then, will I as a viewer be completely satisfied.
