How am I supposed to go on with my life now?

This series has been a huge surprise for me.
It started with a bang, keeping me glued to the screen and eager to watch the next episode every week.

The characters are interesting (maybe a tad bit toxic... yes, I'm talking about Segasaki), and even though it is not the most sexy BL I've ever watched (the manga is way hotter/explicit), it was still great to watch.
Both main characters are just handsome af. There's no other way to describe them, they are just aesthetically super pleasing in their own way.

If I have to find faults, I must say that the misunderstandings between the 2 are a bit odd at times, but still have sense, and after episode 6 the story took a slower pace. I expected much more from the last episode, but, again, I'm satisfied with it and I highly recommend the series. I wish there was a little more time to explore better their relationship, and maybe have more steamy scenes in some points (like the manga), but given they are also at their first experience with BL... they did great!
In the manga there was a lot more sex and smutty scenes, there were a lot more discussions and the development of their relationship was a bit more clear: This was absent in the drama.
Even though some things were "not said" but clear between the couple, communication between the 2 was not their forte, and I wished that the director took more time to develop their story and explain how they arrive at this point - I mean, it seems almost like nothing happened from the time at school and the present time.
Other than that, I enjoyed the show due to the mysterious aura of it all and the great visuals. (But after episode 6 I was a bit disappointed, cannot deny it).

I cannot emphasize it more, but I think the actor who plays Yoh (Mashiko Atsuki) is incredibly cute, and from some angles he resembles WayV's YangYang. While Higuchi Kouhei, with his super defined features, is like a statue.

Such a good show

This is one of those shows in which you really have to know the culture to appreciate properly. A lot of people watching it are watching it with a western mindset, which very much impacts the enjoyment of it. The importance that amae, as well as cultural interdependence, plays on this show is huge, and it needs to be in your frame of reference to understand some of the characters' more... questionable actions.

Now, I'm not saying that their miscommunication nor their more toxic traits were okay, but it is important to have the Japanese culture in mind as a reference while watching. If you want to go into more of a deep dive into this, I can suggest a post by notfreetoday on Tumblr (feel free to ask me for it).

Now, into my own reaction of the show: I loved it. This show reminded me of my early manga-reading days, when the only translations available were fan translations of really blurry scans. Both actors were amazing at portraying their emotions, and the chemistry between the two was off the charts.

Segasaki's insecurity whenever Yoh wouldn't treat their relationship as seriously as he did was portrayed wonderfully and expertly, and whenever Yoh couldn't pick up on the amae that Segasaki was putting out, you could tell how hurt Segasaki was. Conversely, Yoh's confusion about what their relationship is and his desire for Segasaki to be more straightforward with him was also beautifully portrayed.

I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and both of them growing and clueing in to what the other's communication style was (a bit, haha. They definitely still have work to do there). The last episode was very satisfying for their relationship, and made me wish for more episodes with them. However, I do think it ended very well and that the episodes they had were perfect for the story they were trying to convey.

I recommend this to those who watch a lot of Japanese shows and/or are familiar with the culture. Yes, there are some questionable aspects, but watch it more with an open mind! (Also, let's remember: this is fantasy! It's not a real relationship, so we're allowed to enjoy it for what it is.)

This has rewatch value because of the subtle clues.

We meet Yoh a stay at home, self confessed slave to the handsome Mizuki. Yoh is trying to become accepted as a manga writer so has very little of his own income and is dependent on Mizuki's wage. This was the deal offered to Yoh in exchange for all the domestic duties, sexual benefits and submission to Mizuki's requests.
The dominant Mizuki does not impose too many rules and as the drama unfolds depicting their daily interactions it becomes apparent that Yoh is very enamored with Mizuki and quite thrilled to be with him, although he hides this by acting gentle and submissive.
Mizuki also enjoys the power play and shows very little daily affection remaining aloof and somewhat inaccessible to Yoh.

Cracks appear in their love game when Yoh is fired from his current publisher and his feelings of unworthiness send him onto depression. Mizuki breaks his usual role and becomes the carer causing confusion for Yoh and misunderstanding. Yoh's reaction in wanting to prove himself and his worth creates confusion for Mizuki and brings out his insecurities and fear of losing Yoh.

Both have the type of personality where very little is spoken and they rely on actions, They seem incapable of opening up a dialogue to discuss or analyse their feelings. This is the drama aspect of this story and it has some sadly comedic elements; Yoh hiding behind a sheer curtain, buying additional sets of sheets to encourage more sexual activity and getting drunk and clingy. Mizuki panicking and then confessing in the rain, reacting dramatically when he thinks Yoh is being hugged by another man, binding Yoh's wrists in an attempt to discipline him.

Kudos to the director for this interpretation of a manga. Both actors do a terrific job and are convincing in their depiction of intense sexual chemistry.

So unique and fresh!

I love love loveee the vibe of this series! It's so unique!

And the chemistry between the actors? Honestly so smooth and real you can't get enough of it.
It's like from the very first moment you know they both care for each other but simply don't know how to show it and are not so good in communicating their own emotions.

Everything's wrapped in that very specific vibe to it and while some may hate it and feel like there's so many things in plot that are missing, I'm a big fan of it.
So many things left unspoken but shown by their actions.

Sometimes you don't need to say something out loud - you can show it in many other ways and I feel like this series is all about it. All about two people so misunderstood by words that they no longer trust them. They have trust only in actions and that's what they're doing. Showing love in this specific way that only they themselves can understand.

Groundbreaking

This is a sensitive exploration of DOM/SUB relationships with some hints of BD. It focuses on the core motivations of participants without resorting to the more sensationalist aspects. The couple are starting their first relationship seemingly unaware of their own interests, and discovering these aspects of their own identity as the series unfolds. As the series wraps up, you can see the beginnings of self-awareness in both of them. (Awareness of what each one actually wants from the other).

If we are generally observant, during our first relationships we become more self aware, more aware of what we like and don't like, of our weaknesses and strengths and what we find interesting, stimulating and erotic.
While most of us would not want a relationship like the one shown, it reminds us that each of us are unique and should develop a solid understand of our needs and our partners.

The BL genre relies on some combination of lack of communication and miscommunication. And, there is rarely anything "realistic" about BL. Some will hate this series because they won't be able to see themselves in it. Maybe watching will cause us to ponder what specific psychological needs we have in our relationships that maybe aren't exactly "normal"? Given the number of categories / tags for porn and various highly specific dating groups on Facebook, I don't think it is reasonable to dismiss the series because of a "toxic" relationship and toss it in the rubbish heap.

I thought it was brilliant, though occasionally difficult to watch. [Much easier for me to watch than the violence-oriented BLs such as KinnPorsche]

When “Sunny” takes on new meaning…??

I really enjoy this series. Japanese BL dramas hit different. On the surface they are often comical with the anime-like expressions and inner dialogues, but the depth of the characters in these dramas sucks you in before you know it. I love Yoh so much. He’ frustratingly adorable and clueless. Segasaki is the type of needy controller you wouldn’t mind dealing with…Especially those little smirks he gives.

Sometimes directors/writers put in too many flashbacks, but the ones added here really did give context to their initially confusing relationship.

I love the supporting bestie, Kanami. She offered just the right amount of support to both Yoh and the story. my fave scene is when she discovers who Yoh’s boyfriend is and Yoh gets drunk- Yoh drunk is the best. He’s so baby-core, all sulky and refreshingly honest about his feelings.

The kissing/bed scenes were done well, too (the first and last episode live in my head rent free). I had the appropriate amount of stomach drops and butterfly swarms to reel me in. 🦋🦋 The main leads have great on-screen chemistry. 🫠I hope I get to see them paired in future works.

Even though I’ve rewatched this series so many times, the feelings remain. I wish they’d do a second series.

A New Favorite

This is officially my favorite Japanese bl and I think it is going to be hard for others to compare. I loved how complex their relationship was and the writing was just amazing. I'm not even someone who likes to rewatch shows but I have a feeling I will rewatch this a lot because it was so enjoyable. At first I couldn't figure out how I felt about Mizuki but in episodes 6-8 I completely understood his character. You can tell he really cares about Yoh but just has his own way of showing it.

If we don't get a 2nd season I will sue

This bl is perfect for what it has to offer.

The chemistry, the acting, the characters its all perfect.
I found myself really liking both the fluffy and the NC scenes .

Watch it,
If you want to watch two idiots who don't know how to communicate, who are both totally different from others but adapt to society and its norms. The sweet way they like each other twords the end of the show, the way you can feel the lust and yearning for each other. The way everything is portrayed is perfect.

I am sad episodes range from 23-25 min and that (at the time of writhing this ) the show has only one season. I know I'm writing this review pretty late but I watched this show since the first episode aired. Ive always liked it. Even when in a few episodes we got nothing, no character development, no new story I still liked it.

I know this review might be pretty biased because this im im my top 3 most liked BL's I still hope this can explain the show better to some. The point of the show is just to portray the way of 2 people living together, going against society's norms and falling in love in the most weird and confusing ways. Even the characters sometimes get so confused about what they are doing.

Watch it. Just simply do. It was a nice break from depressing BL's and dramas. It has become my comfort show.

The drama is too good and I frankly love this drama it might be toxic but the drama is time worthy to watch. The boundaries between them was gone and I am love with them I need a season 2 to satisfy my self from this drama
A refreshing breeze in the world of BL dramas, this series skillfully blends heartwarming romance with genuine character development. The engaging storyline and well-crafted relationships make it a standout in the genre, offering viewers a delightful escape into a world where love knows no boundaries.

A handsome man doesn't mean you'll get just get a serving of cute and mushy feelings...

Firstly, the lead actor (playing the TV weatherman) is strikingly good-looking - it's not difficult to understand why his housemate has been compelled to draw him from when he first saw him in the cafeteria. Segasaki has a unique kind of beauty that draws not only Yoh, but also his friend Manju and the viewer too. This is one strength of the drama - what is such a man like in person? How does the outward image of a popular persona translate into his real personality when at home?

Secondly, to address the conflicting opinions around this drama and its storyline: I liked the couple and I do believe it takes all sorts to make the world go round. I guess my main frustration was simply this: how about a bit more direct communication?

Expected Just a little more

It was run of the mill stuff I suppose. I was hoping for a more intense dynamic and such but it turned into an attempted wholesome romance which is a bit hard to do with an inherently toxic premise. I genuinely think if they had gotten more into the toxic relationship and how messed up this situation is, it would've worked much better. What I'm saying is this wasn't messed up enough and that's a problem. There shouldn't be a wholesome romantic thing going on, this relationship isn't designed for that.

It should've leaned into thriller/psychological territory more. The acting was solid however and the spicy scenes hit good. I'll give them that.
