Just perfect!!
There isn't a single thing that was bad about this drama. Everything was executed so well. The production really did an amazing job. The story was complete, it had everything you could ask for in a drama.The visuals and cinematography were stunning, the music was beautiful.
The acting was amazing, i really hated those two evil brothers and that means that their acting was on point.
The mains had so much chemistry and their kisses were good, that bathtub scene was great!
It is one of the best Chinese drama's i have seen and i will definatly watch this more times in the future.

A must watch drama
Here is the thing it has been long time i was so invested in a historical drama...a lot of dramas started as very interesting but end up getting bored or couldn’t feel like following the story line but this one is worth it... I love zhang linghe and tian xiwei a lot before this drama but in this drama i fall in love with the villain deng kai...I'm not into toxic or forced relationship but in this whole drama i felt he deserves love and his ending made me cry😭and for my lovely ml & fl, what can i say else! They are so perfect... They portrayed the emotions so well...I absolutely loved their entries, so magnificent🤌The aura was too mighty to ignore..i felt giddy and goosebumps while watching the episodes..In case of the mystery it was good but not very unexpected.. Weirdly i felt sorry for almost all the villains and couldn’t hate them..The visuals was very good...The connections and bondings was so loveable. Loved how the fl goes from a butcher girl to a mighty female general amd how the ml supported her and protected her throughout the whole journey even when he was not in love. And finally it was a happy ending🥰🥰. So It's a must watch even for those who are not into historical dramas..it made me feel to time travel to that era to see all these with my own eyes🥹Was this review helpful to you?
Gorgeous production and cast, and an absolutely riveting storyline.
The actors and actresses were all visually stunning, and the cinematography of this drama is an obvious step above anything I've seen. They are gorgeous!Romance is a slow-burn but with high chemistry and intensity, and I wish there were more spicy scenes but it's good enough.
Plot and pacing is perfect. I haven't given many shows 10/10 but I really think this one takes the cake and everything tied well together. All the main AND side characters are incredibly striking and reprised their roles well.
The real MVP though, is definitely the director Zeng Qingjie and the makeup and hair team. Everyone looked SO good.

this is a love story. it cannot be compared to another with a different theme. it sparked and ignited our tender hearts as we shared YZ's & FCY's joys and sorrows along their journey. and it's amazing how a simple love story can then melt our hearts and become a memorable masterpiece for us drama fans to cherish. kudos to the director and as many had described, the aesthetic shots and editing he brought to life and wonders. yes, the storywriting wasn't ideal; i was so disappointed with episode 30 it dug a hollow space in my heart for awhile. a lot of deux ex machina unfortunately toward the end of the story. the first half was good and oh yes, i absolutely love the comedy. the side characters are so wholesome and awesome; particularly the little girl, ning mei mei is the true jade for me :) this series has the complete package- i love every single bit of it; both its strengths and weakness.

A Drama You’ll Wish You Could Watch Again for the First Time
This drama is one of those rare gems that makes you wish you could erase your memory just to watch it again for the very first time.The cast was perfection — every glance, every line delivered with such emotion that it felt like they were living those moments, not acting them. The OST wrapped itself around the story like a heartbeat, amplifying every tender scene and every heartbreak until you were completely immersed.
The plot had everything: palace intrigue, betrayal, redemption, and a romance so beautifully written it felt timeless. The romance wasn’t just love; it was destiny unfolding in front of us, the kind of connection that makes your heart ache and soar at the same time.

A good watch
I don't want to say much, as there are many reviews already. I wanted to also give it a 10/10 to increase the rating. I think it was one of the best period/historical cdrama I ever watched, if not the best. Second best would be The Prisoner of beauty, the Double (although not so much romance there) and Love in the Clouds (although this is fantasy).Enjoy the watch!

I kept waiting for it to get worse and it never did.
In episode 10 I was incredulous at how good it was, and once I reached episode 20 I just kept waiting for the ball to drop but no, I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. Just goes to show how good the source material was, I guess.Changyu hooked me in from the start, I love her. She flew into my top 3 favourite heroines within the first few episodes. Her frankness, kindness, strenght.. ugh she is AMAZING. This show had incredible cinematography and every shot left me in awe. The main pair was so beautifully wonderful and I enjoyed every second. I binged this show in 4 days, that's how GOOD it was. I have to admit, I've been underestimating Chinese dramas because the few I started watching years ago were with weak female leads and overall lacklustre plot, and therefore I never tried again but my god am I glad I did.

the drama that defined your current taste.
I went into Pursuit of Jade expecting a historical romance, but I left with a story that was much more than that.What surprised me the most was that this drama was not built around a simple love story. It was about two intelligent people with their own scars, responsibilities, and struggles, slowly learning to trust each other and choosing to stand together despite everything trying to tear them apart.
The biggest strength of this drama is its characters. The female lead is not someone who simply waits for someone to save her. She is intelligent, resilient, and capable of making difficult decisions. She knows how to survive, protect what matters to her, and fight for her own future.
The male lead is also more than just a powerful figure. Behind his strength is someone carrying his own burdens, expectations, and wounds. What I loved about their relationship is that they were never portrayed as two incomplete people searching for someone to complete them. They were already strong individually, and together they became even stronger.
Their romance felt like a true partnership — built on understanding, respect, trust, and slowly earned affection. It was not about grand declarations from the beginning, but about two people who gradually became each other's safest place.
Beyond the romance, I appreciated the political conflicts, family struggles, and themes of survival, loyalty, and the consequences of past choices. The story showed that sometimes love is not about escaping the battles of life, but about finding someone willing to face those battles with you.
The chemistry between the leads, the character growth, and the emotional payoff made this one of the most memorable historical dramas I have watched.
Pursuit of Jade reminded me that the best romances are not always about someone saving the other person — they are about finding someone who will stand beside you when the entire world is against you.

🌿 From a Small Village to a Vast WorldOne of the things I loved most about Pursuit of Jade was how naturally the story expanded. It begins in a small village, with seemingly ordinary people living ordinary lives. The drama takes its time introducing the villagers, their relationships, and their daily struggles, allowing us to become genuinely attached to them.
What starts as a local story gradually grows into something much larger. The world expands alongside the heroine’s journey, moving from a small community to political intrigue, larger conflicts, and wider responsibilities. The transition never feels forced. Instead, it feels like we are discovering the world together with the characters.

The village massacre was one of the most difficult moments to watch.
Not because it was shocking for the sake of being shocking, but because the drama had already invested so much time in making us care about the people who lived there. By the time tragedy strikes, these are no longer background characters. They are friends, neighbours, mentors, and family.
As painful as it was, the event felt necessary for the story. Had everything remained peaceful, the heroine would never have left her village and embarked on the journey that ultimately shapes her destiny.
It is a rare example of tragedy being both emotionally devastating and narratively meaningful.

The world fears him, but not her.
That single idea perfectly captures why I adored the main couple.
The male lead is a man whose reputation precedes him. People fear him, misunderstand him, and often judge him before getting to know him. Yet the heroine never sees him as the monster others imagine him to be. She sees the man beneath the legend.
Their relationship develops beautifully throughout the drama. The heroine begins as an independent and capable woman who relies primarily on herself. As the story progresses, she gradually learns to trust the male lead and lean on him when needed, without ever losing her own strength.
Even better, the male lead actually communicates.
Instead of endless misunderstandings or unnecessary emotional walls, he openly expresses his feelings and makes it clear how much he loves her. That alone felt incredibly refreshing.
The chemistry between them is excellent and their emotional connection remains one of the strongest aspects of the drama.

🎭 A Masterclass in Nonverbal Acting
The male lead delivers one of my favourite performances in recent C-dramas.
His nonverbal acting is absolutely phenomenal. So much emotion is conveyed through subtle expressions, body language, and fleeting glances. There are moments where a single look says more than an entire page of dialogue ever could.
Whether he is worried, heartbroken, protective, jealous, or deeply in love, you can read it immediately on his face.
His performance adds tremendous depth to both the character and the romance.

The heroine is fantastic.
She is strong, intelligent, and independent, but also allowed to grow emotionally throughout the story. Her development feels natural and believable.
The supporting cast is equally memorable. I became particularly attached to the village ruffians and thoroughly enjoyed following their individual journeys. They bring humour, heart, and a sense of found family to the story.
On the opposite side, the villains are wonderfully infuriating. Their performances are so convincing that they genuinely make you want to reach through the screen and strangle them yourself. That is always a sign of effective antagonists.

Visually, Pursuit of Jade is stunning.

Many scenes feel carefully composed, creating a drama that is as pleasing to look at as it is to watch.

Adapted from the web novel Zhu Yu by Tuan Zi Lai Xi, the writing is genuinely impressive. The plot is logically structured with intertwined threads that offer genuine surprises instead of predictable tropes. The characters are well-rounded and given the time they need to evolve. Changyu is hard-working and deeply caring, making her a lead you can’t help but root for. Zheng is a man wrapped in mystery with a razor-sharp mind. Their bond moves at a perfect pace—from an unsteady alliance to a protective, unbreakable connection.
2. The Performances
Zhang Linghe shows incredible versatility, commanding scenes even when he has almost no dialogue. He displays profound emotional depth where a single micro-expression tells you exactly what he’s feeling. Matching this intensity is Tian Xiwei, who infuses Fan Changyu with vibrant warmth and unwavering devotion. She brilliantly captures a character who is street-smart and grounded, ensuring her inner strength is always felt beneath her bright exterior.
3. The Production Design
The production design perfectly mirrors the narrative journey, using a visual language that evolves with the characters. The settings seamlessly shift from intimate, rustic village spaces to grandiose, imposing courts and battlefields as the stakes rise.
Final Verdict
Pursuit of Jade is a rare triumph. It excels in writing, performance, and aesthetics, and it carries immense heart. It is well worth your time and easily ranks as one of the best in the genre.

A great drama, nothing less expected from the director.
The actors wren't my favorites but surprised me and I loved their performance and chemistry (again thank you Zheng shu)The first half was so relaxing and cute, I really enjoyed the time in the village, the middle was cool and adventerous wich I love when the fmc is a fighting badass and goes on an adventure and finds loyal male friends XD. But here, the focus shifted only on her, we saw seldom the male lead and so their chemistry dwindled a little bit.
The last third of the drama was stereotypical "lets find out the treason plot a few years ago and get revenge" wich was actually a bummer for the vibes but I still liked it. I generally like familiar themes in dramas :)
