Hyun Su is waiting to take the position of the security manager of a dam located in the remote village of Seryung. On a foggy night, he gets lost on his way to check out the company residence that he and his family will soon move into. As he struggles to find his way through the thick fog, he runs over a girl who jumps out of nowhere. Panicked, Hyun Su makes the wrong decision and dumps the body in the lake.
The village is turned upside down by the child gone missing. When the girl’s body is found in the lake, Yeong Je, the girl’s abusive father and a major landlord in the village, is enraged and begins his own search for the killer and plans an elaborate plot to take his revenge.

The film is less secure in its unnecessary supernatural elements, which begin as an intriguing scene from the scene as Seung-Hwan learns from a co-worker that the lake was nicknamed. Seung-Hwan is an experienced diver and his initial underwater excursion lends the process an eerily mysterious dimension, but Choo exaggerates it by having a local shaman peripheral complaining about ownership and including several ghostly encounters. Choi's traumatic visions are also distracting, creating flashbacks in flashbacks that distract from the main storyline and add unnecessary levels of coercion to an already anxious morality move. Suggestions that these characters and the surrounding community are under some sort of curse are inconsistent with the movie's theme of accepting responsibility for someone's actions.
