Also known by Gui Lai and Love for Eternity.
History is, in a way, simple. A couple is separated during the Cultural Revolution in China. He even tries to escape, but it does not work. Decades later, at last loose, returns home. Only his wife suffers from a psychological blockage and can not recognize him. Even worse, she remains waiting for her beloved, who promised to come on a train trip. That is, every day she will wait for him at the station and return desolate home.Coming Home is based precisely on this overwhelming effort to retake a love still present but absent due to psychological issues. It is true that at certain moments the film skips to melodrama, but it is still a touching love story. Much thanks to the work of its two protagonists and also of Yimou, that conciliates technical quality to a narrative that values the feeling as few filmmakers do in the present time. Very good, watch, you will like it.
