Kim Hyun Joong
- Name: Kim Hyun Joong
- Native name: 김현중
- Also Known as: Kim Hyeon Jung
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: June 6, 1986
- Age: 38
He made his debut in June 2005 as the group's leader, main dancer, vocalist, rapper and face of the group with their first EP, "Warning". In 2007, they entered the Japanese market with the single "Kokoro", which debuted at number five on the Oricon chart. The following year, they became the first South Korean artists to win the award for Best New Artist at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. The group was represented by DSP Media (DSP미디어).
He made his acting debut in 2008 with a role in "Boys Over Flowers". As the show was immensely popular, he became widely known and even received two Popularity awards, at the Seoul International Drama Awards and at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards.
In 2010, his contract with DSP expired and he signed with KeyEast (키이스트). As all members signed with different agencies and no company wanted to take them as a group, they decided to go on an indefinite hiatus in late 2010 to focus on their individual activities.
He made his debut as a solo artist in 2011 and in Japan in 2012. However, he became involved in controversy when an ex-girlfriend filed lawsuits against him in 2014 and in 2015 claiming he was pregnant with his child and physical and mental abuse.
He decided to enlist in his mandatory military service on May 12, 2015 and was discharged on February 11, 2017. While serving, his ex-girlfriend was found guilty of attempted fraud and tampering with evidence and was sentenced to jail and fined 5 million KRW (approx. 4,600 USD) in February 2018.
In 2018, he founded his own label, HENECIA and left KeyEast in early 2020. He has focused on his acting career.
In February 2022, he married his non-celebrity girlfriend. The couple welcomed their first child in mid-2022.
The group has confirmed they will reunite at some point in early 2025 to release a Japanese album to commemorate their 20th anniversary.
