Sung Joon in his role for White Christmas

Since EXO's Chen announced his marriage in January, there has been no shortage of actors and idols coming forward about their own relationship statuses. First-generation K-Pop idol Lee Jae Hoon of COOL announced he'd been married since 2009 and on February 9th, Crayon Pop idol Geummi announced her own wedding and pregnancy.

Actor Sung Joon also came forward on February 3rd to announce that he married his non-celebrity girlfriend before he enlisted and that they have a child together. He shared a handwritten letter with fans to share his happy news.

Sung Joon has been a part of many dramas and movies since his career began, most notably Shut Up: Flower Boy Band and The Villainess.

Sung Joon's statement says:

Hello. This is actor Sung Joon, and I’m greeting you for the first time in a while.

I’ve always been poor at expressing myself through words, and I thought long and hard about how well I could express my personal story before I made the decision to start writing.

I have been serving in the Korean military for approximately one year. Around the time of my enlistment, I went through big changes in my life and had happy things happen. I found someone I love and who I want to spend the rest of my life with. We were happily planning out our wedding when we heard that we’d be having a baby.

We were so happy, it was a miracle and a blessing. But I enlisted soon after, and I wanted to put the protection of two precious people in my life first. So we partook in legal proceedings to become a married couple as soon as we could, and we were unable to hold a wedding where we could greet many people. I believed that was the best I could do with my enlistment approaching.

One year has passed, and out of concern for my wife, who has to do everything on her own without me, I requested a change in assignment and have begun the remainder of my military service as a full-time reserve.

As a new head of my household who is still lacking, I wanted to be closer to my family to protect them, and I also wanted to take this opportunity to honestly share my personal story with you, though I may be a little late. Though it is happy and good news, I regret not being able to tell you immediately at the time, and I would be very happy if you could be understanding of my story and my desire to be a good head of the household.

I will diligently carry out the rest of my military service, and then return to you as actor Sung Joon, a stronger and more mature person who is also the head of a household.

With the new start of 2020, I am also anticipating changes and working hard. Thank you, as always.

I am honoured to share the happy news for Sung Joon, and I truly hope he and his wife and child are happy together. I hope that things have gotten better for him since his reassignment; he seems truly happy and confident in his love for his wife.

I have yet to discover his acting skills, but I will be doing so soon and am more than glad that this happy news is one of the reasons I discover him.
