In contrast to the belief that tentpole films dominate the summer box office, the burning question arises as to which film will capture audiences' attention in the wake of the success of "The Roundup: No Way Out 3."

Director Ryu Seung Wan's comeback film, "Smugglers," announced its theatrical release on July 26. It has garnered high expectations as Ryu's directorial return after his film "Escape from Mogadishu" in 2021. "Smugglers" portrays a thrilling maritime crime drama unfolding as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity arises for people making a living by salvaging goods thrown into the sea. The film stars Kim Hye Soo, Yeom Jung Ah, Zo In Sung, Park Jung Min, Kim Jong Soo, and Go Min Si.

Director Ryu Seung Wan focused on the film's overall quality and enhanced the technical aspects to ensure a satisfying experience for theatergoers.

Following "Smugglers," "The Moon" (directed by Kim Yong Hwa) is set to be released on August 2. The film depicts the struggle between astronaut Hwang Seon Woo (played by Doh Kyung Soo), who becomes stranded alone on the moon due to an accident, and the former head of the space center, Kim Jae Guk (played by Sol Kyung Gu), who desperately tries to rescue him.

Anticipation is high for Kim Yong Hwa's return to directing after his successful "Along with the Gods" series (2017-2018). With the immersive portrayal of space in "Space Sweepers" (directed by Jo Sung Hee in 2021) and the addition of a story centered around a lunar exploration mission, curiosity arises about how the film will unfold. The combination of hyper-realistic visuals of the unknown space of the moon and the survival drama set between the Earth and the moon is expected to heat the summer box office.

"Concrete Utopia" (directed by Uhm Tae Hwa) recently released teaser posters and trailers, announcing its August release. The film combines the acting talents of Lee Byung Hun, Park Seo Joon, and Park Bo Young.

As a disaster film, "Concrete Utopia" tells the story of people who survive in an apartment complex after a massive earthquake devastates the city inside and outside the building. It is based on the popular webtoon "The Pleasant Neighbor" by Kim Soong Nyoong.

While the spectacle of disaster situations is important in disaster films, how the characters communicate and behave during those crises is crucial. Anticipation is high for Uhm Tae Hwa's message through "Concrete Utopia."

"The Informal Operation," directed by Kim Sung Hoon, has garnered attention as Kim's comeback film. Thanks to his previous successes with films like "A Hard Day" (2014), "Tunnel" (2016), and the Netflix series "Kingdom" (2019-2021), Kim Sung Hoon has established himself as a trusted director.

"The Informal Operation" is an action buddy film that depicts the friendship between Min Joon (played by Ha Jung Woo), a diplomat who travels to Lebanon to rescue his missing colleague, and Pan Su (played by Joo Ji Hoon), a local taxi driver.

Ha Jung Woo and Joo Ji Hoon have already showcased their strong friendship in the "Along with the Gods" series and the variety show "Bros on Foot" (2023), so it is expected that they will exhibit chemistry beyond that of mere brothers in this new film.
