I don’t like anime generally but there are a few that I really loved.

  • Mononoke
  • Thermae Roma
  • Extra Olympia Kyklos
  • Wacky tv Nanana
  • Summit of the Gods (not strictly anime, but a French animated film based on a manga)

Now I’m stuck and don’t know what to try next. Hopefully this gives an idea of my tastes. Based on these can anyone give me any recommendations?

Try Attack on Titan. It's the only anime I've ever watched since I dont like anime either. I really shouldnt have watched it as my first anime because it set a high bar for me

Maybe some adventure?

or romance? Your Name: https://anidb.net/anime/11829

Except of Mononoke I don't know others, so I don't know what genres you like, but both these movies are beautiful.

@kardasx thanks. I guess it would have helped if I had given genres. Actually romance is not one of my favorites. Apart from “Mononoke” the other titles I listed could be described as quirky comedies. I recently saw the movie “Paprika”. So whatever genre that is, I like.

If you like the surreal animation of Mononoke, you might like other anime with surreal animation:

  • Kuuchuu Buranko (same director as Mononoke)
  • Kaiba and The Tatami Galaxy (both directed by Yuasa)
  • FLCL
  • Gankutsuou

FLCL and The Tatami Galaxy are also comedies, so they might be a good place to start.

If you like the story of Mononoke (investigating supernatural creatures), you might like Mushishi.

If you like Paprika, you'll probably like Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent (same director as Paprika), and maybe also Serial Experiments Lain.

According to your profile you like the historical genre, so I recommend The Rose of Versailles (set in 18th century France).

I think you should watch "Golden Times" from  guessing your taste.

Thanks everyone I will look for these.

Okay... then Konosuba: https://anidb.net/anime/11261 , it is comedy with crazy characters in magic world, but those characters are a bit perverted.

Suzumiya Haruhi: https://anidb.net/anime/3651 (school comedy with supernatural characters)

Thanks, I’ll try to check out all the rec.

@Baklajan  One of my favs  ::

The Heike Story

  • simply beautiful artistic style with fine lines & muted colors
  • based on the epic tale (which I'm currently reading) so the political and historical aspects of this anime feel very organic and riveting.

Thanks Zen Violet. It looks intriguing.
