Wheeww... Finally done with this. At first, I was angry with the ending. But after I've had some time to sit with it, I realized it's not so bad. I think many of us are angry with the ending because of the way the writers told the final arc leading up to the ending... The writers lost their way...The story lost itself...

But first, I want to say, LXY and WJY did an EXCELLENT job with what they were given(which wasn't much). But they made so much out of it!!. So even if I'm annoyed at the overall story, I appreciate their work. They made it enjoyable to watch them. I will definetely rewatch some of my favorite episodes!! (Ep 1-18).

This show has 4 arcs:
----The first 12 episodes was one arc.(lol the toxic meeting and joining hands, character establishment arc) -Episode 13-18 (fall in love, spend time together arc, continue to plan revenge)
---Episode 19-24 (carry out "revenge" arc).
---Episode 25-32 (final arc, ending)

The story started losing its way in the third arc. The writers spent the first two arcs building these characters one way. Then spent the last two arcs making the characters behave out of character. So a lot of the characters essence got lost in the ether. The third arc was all over the place leading the final arc to be very jumbled and unnecessary, leading to the ending we got.

When I think about it, the ending itself is not that unsatisfactory. It's the build up to it that's very unsatisfactory, which robs off on the ending. The writers lost their way. Bad writers of this show should be condemned. Whoever wrote this should NEVER be allowed near a script again

I don't think it will plummet that much. But...if it does: it doesn't matter. This drama has so much value and meaning. (Even if it doesn't end exactly how I would have liked).

Agree, it's a wonderful drama. I even loved the ending because they meet and recognize each other in the afterlife.

They stayed together. There was no miraculous solution. There was a realistic taste of life, but something poetic and hopeful at the same time.

I’m in mourning. Admittedly it was a beautiful story. I’m just freaking tired of blood spitting and eternal poisons! Why would writers and producers feel we would go for this?
Why should I follow a story to be ended tragically? Love of Nirvana was the same.
Maybe it’s me picking the wrong ones. ?‍♀️

Yes, that's the problem. And the immortal flower thing was forgotten. (Don't worry, it can't kill me. They always said that.) The story didn't have an overall unity.
      PS:
But... despite all that. I felt some satisfaction in watching it. It's joyful and melancholic. It's real and poetic. I wouldn't call it tragic. But I feel a sense of hope.

Even though I only watched the very last episode I do have to say that the SE was very well done another one well done this year after snowy nights. It was poetic and beautiful. I still have to watch 27 through 32 but I really do like the way it was done. It does not take away from the story at all. I did not like 23 through 24. It was getting a bit too depressing and I’m skipping 25 and 26 just because they look pretty useless but starting from 27 onward I will watch and I do appreciate a good SE. This is in no way shape or form a comparison to AJTL. And well written SE’s are much more remembered than HE’s. The actors really did a good job. I can’t say anything about that. I will most likely write and review tomorrow, but I can say that just from that last episode I’m happy with it.

Finished the drama. Stellar acting from LXY for last 5 episodes. The pain he went through was heartbreaking and touching. My eyes are swollen from all the touching scene btw LXY and Wu Jinyan. He deserved some kind award like WXY from the Double. Looking forward to see Moments like Forever ?

Liu Xueyi's crying scene in the Spring Flower Flame is fragile, broken, desperate, helpless, crazy, lost soul, aggrieved, forbearing, remorseful, crying with joy, relieved, really various! Why is he so good at cryingIt doesn't matter what the plot is, as soon as Murong Jinghe cries, my tear ducts will automatically open!

It's a HE. The final scene is their rebirth and everyone who died appears alive in the scene. MJH and ML start a new life, without the mistakes of the past life. MJH didn't know ML before the fire, but in the final scene they met in a new moment (this scene doesn't exist in the series, the fire was the beginning of it all). So, without a doubt, it is the new life they mutually promised each other. (The opening song of the series talks exactly about rebirth).

@eliteles1 Wonderful, my friend, I agree with you and feel like you. Although I truly believe in what I wrote, I think that, as an ordinary person in the world, producers should be more considerate of the public. I have noticed that invariably, cdramas invest in dubious endings, in others that are clearly sad and discourage us. Behind the screen there is a worker and all kinds of people who leave home early and return later exhausted, in need of a fable to overcome the sufficiently harsh side of life. This worker lifts the country and fills the pockets of entertainment producers. Social networks reflect what we feel and think and they watch us, they know what we feel and yet they continue to frustrate their audience. We have a vocation for happiness, we are half heroes, half villains, we look for this identification in stories. We want to experience the Master of the Shadow, ML's martial arts, on the other hand we want to be the happy pair MJH and ML, in the cake shop or in that Arcadian, bucolic field. But it's certain that there's a convergent point that everyone wants to live: happiness. We have a strong platonic relationship with the characters, we feel love for them. There is an emotional exhaustion on our part: the tears we feel on our faces are real, of salt, both for sad and poetic scenes. The image on the screen is stronger than our ability to imagine an ending that pleases us. I was also melancholy. We don't want to make interpretative efforts, we need certainty, because that is our nature. We pilgrimage with them. The trip is over for them, not for us. It will still take a while for the procession of images and our attachment to MJH and ML to fade... We'll have to abandon them, because we need to continue with our dreams and hopes...

Hide SpoilerYes, there are many heroic scenes. I love the scene of them throwing themselves off the cliff. They seem to fly, and it's so beautiful, to find themselves in the lake, alive and in love. (But nevertheless: I cried because of the tears on Morung Jing's face when he said "But I couldn't save Mei Lin". (That's so realistic), and yet so many fantasy scenes in this drama with them. (But still frustrating at some points, there are so many beautiful and interesting scenes in this drama that I want to watch it again later, not now.

I cried a lot too.. It wasn't the desired end, we wanted to see them for a long time in the "same" life we are in. I have no doubt that the final scene is their rebirth without the mistakes of their past life, what reinforces this thesis is that they didn't know each other before the fire. In that scene, they meet at another moment. But we're only human and we wanted their happiness even “in this” life, as a reward for all the disagreements. But Let's keep the final scene with that bright morning in Qingzhou, where everyone who had left was there, reborn, enjoying the prize of a happy life.

I understand. They didn't follow the line of thought they created in the first half of the plot. I feel like they fired the writers of the first few episodes. The immortal flower analogy: I'll never forget this analogy (and Jing He explaining it to Luo Mei). There should have been a moment where he told Mei Lin this immortal flower analogy too.

8.3/10

This was a drama with an intriguing premise and strong acting performances especially from the leads. While it falters in pacing and character development, the chemistry and visuals save the day. Recommended if you are looking for a mix of romance and a bit of vengeance and power struggle, though be prepared for a story that might not meet all the expectations.

Episode 32. Well here we are at the end at last.
I knew we were going to end up here. ?The opening song Flame pretty much tells us what's going to happen. Why am I surprised. ?
Liu Xue Yi ?? Damn he does these emotional scenes so well! I miss the morally grey ML from the first couple of episodes though. He was so much fun! And cute little Ba too. Emo ML is cool too but....
Will she live until the wedding? It's getting close. ?
Love the ML dressed as the bride ? How sweet, peacock feather fan, flower in his cap, and big smiles ???
Yeah, they lived long enough for the wedding and wedding night!??
And now I'm broken ??
Little fantasy/alternate world sequence is cute. What if...I love their meeting.
The End. But wait....
Look how big that red berry bush grew ?
Where did he get a nephew from? He didn't have any other siblings did he??
Wait, was that it? I thought there was more to the end than that. I was waiting for the story where everyone is still alive that I've read about. Was that all? Darn.

But I think fate was so cruel to them that's make me sad ...

    Yeah, fate did them dirty

The fact of rewatching it again or not (even for the scenes or episodes that we liked the most), it can be rewatchable. But... the idea changed from the first to the second episode (and the audience accepted the change), somewhat against their will (but the writers), were unable to maintain the rhythm of the plot that they created (it's as if they started a story) and didn't conclude it and started another story. But still, there are memorable scenes and episodes.

The drama english title kill me love me lived up to its name , I was trying to convince myself that it would have a different ending but it didn't .
I felt that this drama has different parts :
part 1 was dark and the relationship between main leads was poisonous and unequal , part 2 : the life in the village , it was like a spring in the main leads lives ,
part 3: the ending of the revenge story ,
part 4 : SML and FL story in xiyan , then ML comeback with the good governor outfit + some hopeless romantic moments
part 5 : main leads happy reunion , war +deaths
part 6 : two different endings : a sad one and a happy one
I personally enjoyed this drama and It is one of the best dramas of 2024.
FL was the type of character that I want to see in other dramas , she was strong , smart , good in martial arts and she shows her emotions in a terrific way , she is my best character of 2024 .
Also ,ML did a great job and all the leads were really phenomenon .
For the ending , I would like to believe that ML and FL met in parallel world or they got the rebirth and I would like to believe that their fate was stronger than their tragedy so they had happy ending in different universe or in different time.
Honestly , there were some dragging and I believe that some people were disappointed because they were expecting a story like bloody romance or my journey to you ,but I feel that even though the story shifted from dark to classic historical drama , the changes served story .
My rate for this drama is 9/10 and I highly recommend this drama with the double of course .

I was really disappointed about this inconsistency. Basically all this symbolism about the undying flower was only meaningful for ML‘s situation in the first few episodes, but meaningless for the story as a whole. I love consistent symbolism.

    • eliteles1  VIP

The symbols of a story cannot be lost throughout the plot. It is in this drama that there is an inconsistency in this essential symbol of the plot (if they took it to the end, how beautiful it would be and also coherent with the end of the book. (But...still the drama is worth watching), because there are interesting things in this drama, like this analogy.
