GL Drama Lovers Club

Filipino GL movie "Rookie" premiered at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2023 yesterday. No news yet on international release, but past precedent looks reassuring. 

This volleyball-set romance is produced by Project8 (Suntok sa Buwan; Drag Den), ANIMA (Like in the Movies; LSS), and video-sharing and social-networking app Kumu.. The openly queer director of this film, Samantha Lee, is behind several Filipino lesbian productions: Sleep With Me, Billie and Emma, and Baka Bukas. 

It stars Aya Fernandez (Love Bites 2: Stand In Love) and newbie actress Pat Tingjuy. It also stars long-time actress and personality Agot Isidro.

Hi girls, I spent 6 months last year making English subtitles for The Message, a Chinese drama based on a WW2 spy thriller where the female lead is canonically gay (in the novel, though of course it was toned down in the adaptation). The show stars Janice Man and Lulu Xu, and was very popular on TikTok / Douyin when it was released in 2020.
