Is it normal for Japanese actors to have lots of credits under their names?

My only exposure to Japanese dramas are through BL series. It's always fun checking the actors' page because you get to scroll almost endlessly because they have so much dramas and movies credited under their name. Is it normal for a standard actor in Japan to get to play to lots of dramas and movies in their entire career?
