AKB48 (short for Akihabara48) is a Japanese Idol Group. The group has their own theater, located on the eighth floor of the Don Quijote store in Akihabara, Tokyo. The 1st generation members were announced in October, 2005, debuting on December 8, 2005. The debut single of the group, Sakura no Hanabiratachi, was released on February 1, 2006.

I recently went from watching Yutori desu ga Nani ka to going crazy over Shimazaki Haruka to watching alot of AKB48 variety to listening to their songs etc.

"after watching it for some time, I think this PV pretty much represent AKB48's center spot history so far, it started with AKB48's GM Takahashi Minami (2005), then to AKB48's Forever Ace Maeda Atsuko (2006 - 2012), then to SKE48's Matsui Jurina (2012), then back to AKB48's Shimazaki Haruka (2012), as you can see then came AKB48's Shinoda Mariko, see how she's NOT holding the bag, but help and lead instead, it represents how she is NOT the center, but more of a mentor for both Paruru and Mayuyu, interestingly then came AKB48's Itano Tomomi and Oshima Yuko, both holding the bag too, I think this represent the part where AKB48 kinda lost their track after Acchan's graduation, where they had 4 members fighting for center spot, and as the PV shows, it ends with Mayuyu's victory, after that the bag briefly handed to HKT48's Sashihara Rino (2013) and AKB48's Kojima Haruna (2013) as the center spot, then the bag once again returns to AKB48's Watanabe Mayu where she share it with HKT48's Miyawaki Sakura as the double center of this PV (2014). "

I know the above song isn't necessarily like this, but I find AKB48 songs too cutesy, and generally lack musicality, like it's more about selling the idols to the audience than the music.

However, I did like one of their sub-units, namely 'French Kiss', their music has more a melodramatic tone which is what I prefer, also helps that there's less voices overlapping with each other.

Still not very good music but it's my weakness. Lemme know if there are other akb48 songs like this.

Since you like AKB48, you might also want to check out E-girls, I have the same problem with them though, don't really like the main group but one of their sub-units is amazing: FLOWER

Haha.  We have different tastes in music. I really like their upbeat catchy tunes and I love the lyrics. I think their composers are genius because they write these songs where there is frequently a component for wotas to accompany. I personally think there is only one song genre/type superior and that is the duets in cpop, especially when it is a harmonizing duet. those tunes are fantabulous and obviously ridiculously hard to write.

and of course Aki P writing really fantastic lyrics. romance, love, innocence, strength, courage, hope... etc. love it.

thank you. i will check out your recs!
