LOL so damn true. So SO DAMN TRUE! Btw can I repost that somewhere else?

Probably that's how my face looked when I watched the ending. Geez! Why did it have to end like THAT!
Isn't that Kazuya Kamenashi. Btw, after reading everyone's posts here, I think I'm not going to invest my time in this drama. To be completely honest, I love dramas with happy endings. Fantasy ones with happy endings are also the best. Like Secret Garden, Who Are You?. My girlfriend is a Gumiho, etc.
After seeing how upset most people are..... :(
Also, I just wanted to point out that ilsamc had the 49th post in this thread. :p

Yeah I totally felt robbed. Everything that you, graphicfighter, has said has ran through my mind, but I'm too lazy to type it out lol. Although... I was ok with the Scheduler passing on - maybe it's because I'm a guy and not a fan girl. This makes me so mad at the writers that I want to write them and tell them that that I've decided to kill myself because of the last two episodes. I'm not seriously thinking that, but I wanna be like "Message received - life sucks." This and Inception are the only 2 endings that have made me this mad, and it's because both of them were absolutely amazing for the majority of the show/movie but instead of giving us a satisfying conclusion, they decided to be "unpredictable" and replace our satisfying conclusion with a stupid message that nobody cares about! I didn't this show to be preached too. I watched it for the adventure.
And someone mentioned the whole, we jumped 2 years foward just for a flashback. I was laughing at that too.
Any way, I'm going to do the same thing I did with Inception. I'm going to imagine that Ji Hyun woke up and didn't remember anything, but Kang's love for her caused her to remember - happily ever after. And I do admit that the redemption of the bad characters was good, so we could keep that too.
All in all, I don't think I could recommend this to anyone because I don't want them to feel robbed like me. Maybe they'll make an alternate ending on the dvd.
OMG so true! (especially about Inception). On the whole I agree with majority of what you had to say...The flashback didn't feel like a flashback (probably because it was only 2 years if they had picked a longer time period I think they could have had a better ending) - it was definitely a lost opportunity. The writers could have easily used it to their advantage! I wouldn't have been disappointed if they gave us a concrete resolution of all the couples even if the partners weren't the ones we were expecting. They sorta did it for Min ho and In Jung so why not the main leads?? The fact that the fantasy bubble was completely shattered was the most disappointing in my opinion (that's what compiled me to watch it in the first place). I liked this drama so much that I think I would have been happy with the tiniest scene of the afterlife with Ji hyun and Yi Soo and what their roles were now...That said, I would still recommend it because if they were going for "facing reality" in the last two episodes then, they DID achieve it and do a good job at that - It just wasn't what we all were hoping for or expecting I guess.

Just finished it and came here to read what others thought about it and to share my two cents. Honestly, I’m not sure what to think of it. After reading your posts I feel like I partly agree with everyone! :)
First of all, I am not in ultimate shock because I was never that emotionally involved with this drama. I guess the main reason is that I never came to love any of the characters. I thought the storyline and setting had some very interesting elements, but nearing the end everything became a bit too melodramatic and I found myself only mildly interested in it.
About the ending then. I admit, I didn’t see it coming either and I was a bit surprised. I, too, felt that the drama had misled me. Personally, I like happy endings. I do know real life is unfair and usually I don’t want to me reminded about that when I’m escaping reality by watching drama or movies. However, I don’t think that mixing fantasy and “realistic” sad ending is a bad thing always. To give you an example, I liked Harry Potter books quite much and I think the story was better because some of the characters died although it made me sad and angry. In this case, I kind of felt that it wasn't fair Ji Hyun died but on the other hand, I probably wouldn't have fully liked a totally-happy-sugarish-miracle ending either. Can't really put my finger on it but for me this drama just lacked "that something" and that's why whatever ending was okay by me.
Overall, I think this drama was quite interesting and entertaining. It wasn’t waste of my time. Still, it left me with little feelings of any kind and I think it means that this drama just wasn’t my cup of tea. Nevertheless, everyone has their own views and likings and I want by no means belittle the feelings of anyone who really loved this drama.

Yeah, what would have made it best IMO is if the scheduler passed on and Ji Hyun lived because that would make where not everything worked out happy fluffy ending, but some things did work out - good ending.

I agree, that could have been a good ending or an ending that many people were (or at least I was) expecting - and that way it wouldn't have been so shocking.
Something 49 Days did very well was present us with a very real story within the premise and set up of a fantastical framework. I feel the writer and in turn the actors, did a wonderful job telling this story. Did it end with a perfect â??textbookâ? happy ending for the main couples? No. Did I want it to? Yes. But even though the last two episodes were hard ones for me to watch, I still find myself glad I watched and happy with the tale I was told. It was original. It was cleverly told. It didnâ??t pander to the masses by wrapping things up in a nice neat bow. It was smartly written and didnâ??t dumb down its themes for its audience. And I donâ??t know about you but I like watching a story where the writer and director give their audience full credit to keep up, understand and appreciate where the story is taking them.
When I think back on the 20 episodes of this drama; how the story played out episode after episode, the character development, the twists and turns, the layout of each characters self discovery and push and flow forward of the narrative to its conclusion, I am more than satisfied.
This Drama was such a well rounded and full human tale. But full human lives always have tragedy. They always have life, love, betrayal and death. All of these things are experiences that make our lives richer. They teach us lessons about life and how to appreciate what we have. How we should not take our own life and the lives of our loved ones for granted. They make us smarter and more self aware. For me, this is the central message of 49 Days and I feel it was told exceedingly well.
Ji Hyun: The fact is, for good or ill, she lived in a pampered world where she sort of skipped through life at an easy pace. Every road in life was paved for her by loving, doting parents. She was kind, sweet and loving. But she saw things through narrow eyes and those narrow eyes made her unknowingly selfish. Her 49 days opened her eyes to what was going on around her. Her best friend and fiancéâ??s betrayal, her fatherâ??s company and health woes, her motherâ??s feeling of being left out and a little left behind and her childhood friend Han Kangâ??s long, deep buried love for her. All of these things would have been a little clearer to her in life if she wasnâ??t living in a pampered bubble. She was so changed. She knew how to love in a deeper, richer way. She was unafraid, wiser for the wear and ready to accept her fate.
My conclusion is her 49 days were never meant to only be about her. Look at all the lives that were changed because of them.
In Jung: She was a bitter twisted girl who tried to replace the lack of love from her own family with that of Ji Hyunâ??s. When it didnâ??t work out according to plan, she selfishly tried to destroy her friend and the family that took her in. (You knowâ?¦I have a best friend and we have been like sisters for years and years. As close as we are and as much as I know her family loves meâ?¦They are her blood, not mine and there is a blood closeness line that cannot be crossed. I know my role. And so does she with my family. This is unspoken. Blood is thicker than water.) In the endâ?¦In Jung learned are hard lesson. A lesson she needed to learn right quick and never would have without those 49 days.
Min Ho: Crazy mess. All I can say is he learned to regret! He learned to feel shame and he learned to love. But his learning to love came with a lesson ~ your path was evil and wrong. Ji Hyunâ??s 49 days stopped him in his tracks and gave him a dose of guilt and shame he sorely needed to knock him to his knees.
Yi Kyung: She was living in a world of pain, loss, self pity and loneliness every day for 5 years. She felt abandoned by family, her love and by life. She was stuck in an endless daily and yearly cycle of mourning her loss and attempting to take her own life. She had no reason to live. She was a walking corpse. Ji Hyunâ??s 49 days woke her up, shook her up and put her back together. Her character development was huge! Iâ??d argueâ?¦even more than anyone else in this story, even Ji Hyun. These 49 days were an unselfish gift to her more than anyone else. They marked the beginning of her re-discovery of life and they were given to her unknowingly by her sister. (I know people have problems with this and I do too a little bitâ?¦But I forgive it because while this element of the story should have been have been presented earlier in the narrative to give us, the audience some frame of reference, it ultimately makes Ji Hyunâ??s sacrifice even more poignant.) The lesson for her was to accept Yi Sooâ??s death and value her own life. A great gift.
Yi Soo: While I feel Yi Soo would have gotten his chance to come to Yi Kyung without Ji Hyunâ??s 49 daysâ?¦I feel those 49 days and his Scheduler connection with her was his â??Yellow Brick Roadâ?. It was his preparation and his path to do it RIGHT. Having that connection with Ji Hyun eased his way for his memory to come back and her friendship help lessen the blow of the intense sadness upon re-discovery of their tragic parting.
Han Kang: He was finally able to â??come back for the girl he loved.â? He was able to pull the stick out of his bum and loosen up and learn to express his love. He was able to really be there for Ji Hyun; to give her the love he felt in his heart and finally receive that love back from her. He was able to have some resolution about his feelings toward his Mother and find closure. He was able to get moving. Ji Hyunâ??s 49 days gave him that gift.
Ji Hyunâ??s Father: Her 49 days saved his life
Ji Hyunâ??s Mother: Her 49 days helped her understand her daughters love was there, present and very real.
Every life connected to herâ?¦every life that will continue has changed for the better. Some got what they deeply needed and some got
what they so richly deserved.
I understand how some really feel a â??What was the whole point of her 49 days when she just died?â? But I think it goes deeper than thatâ?¦The whole concept of how each one of us can touch anotherâ??s life and we just donâ??t understand how meaningful that may beâ?¦is a common literary theme. It is also explored in movies time and againâ?¦ a sort of â??Itâ??s A Wonderful Lifeâ? tale of real, common and universally human truths told in a fantastic setting. I came away from this story feeling fine with its conclusion. The writer told a great story and I respect the bravery of ending it the way he/she did. Certainly we are all going to die. It certainly would be nice to know weâ??ve touched so many lives in a positive way and possibly even ease their forward path before we go.
