[Discussion] Miss Ripley

BUT if she's already showing more of her calculating side I might keep watching to see where it goes.

I really want to see a different kind of woman in dramas, especially if she's the main lead. I'm kind of tired of these nice, selfless girls. *sigh*

Definitely agree that there was way too much back story in the first episode. If I had total directorial control, I would have started off Jang Miri's story at the moment she blows up her pimp's club. That would have been such a bad ass introduction for our heroine, and would have provided the perfect bait for the viewer to actually want to get to know her story. Her life as a call girl and her family history/adoption could have been revealed later on at more precise moments, such as when the pimp comes looking for her in Korea with the photo of her dolled up or when she bumps into Hee Joo. I think it's better to have that revealed in the early stages of the story because it sets up an interesting dynamic concerning the morality of the drama: it allows the viewer to sympathize for and root for a character who willingly breaks the law. They just revealed it too soon and so sloppily that it almost fell into camp territory, and not the fun kind of camp like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Ah well, what's done is done.

It sure did look like she might die at the end. I mean, the angelic music, the dream-like atmosphere, the frolicking through the Elysian-like field, the whole "I truly loved her, argh-the-angst!" voice overs from our male leads points to only one conclusion in my mind. Again, this falls into the whole "car crash I can't look way from" aspect of the show---I have no idea how forging credentials to land a work visa could result in her death, but dammit I want to find out regardless of how morbid that sounds.

If you haven't seen the second episode yet, definitely give it a shot. It has the same problems with its music, the cheap camera work, and the really uninteresting hotel drama, but the characters are really starting to come through and the acting is solid.

Did I mention that sexy hotel director man is sexy? LOL I'm already camped out on the banks of the river in anticipation of the fireworks to come between him and Jang Miri.

I'll admit that if all that nostalgic/melodramatic intro was just misleading and she isn't dead, the only thing that will keep me from completely disliking the ending is that she truly is the master of manipulation and disappeared from their lives without a trace. Ya see, now that you've planted that seed into my head, I'd be really disappointed if she did die. The more I think about it, the more I'm beginning to realize that her dying at the end would play well into the narrative of her victimization that was established in the first episode. Hm, or I guess it could be seen as retribution? I wouldn't want that either though. =/ But I'm jumping ahead of the story here. Who knows how I'll feel after fourteen more episodes... Right now I just need more con woman, less victim please.

Well, let's see how it develops. And complete agree with needing "more con woman, less victim", because that is the reason I decided to start watching it in the first place.

Well... The drama isn't annoying at all. Lee Da Hee's acting is very good, sometimes she makes you hate her because of her attitude and the way she is playing with the feelings of two men, but I don't jude her very hard. :D Those two men have an endless love for her. I feel sorry for them. There's also a naive character, the friend of Lee Da Hee's character. She is totally pitiful.
The OST isn't so good but you can't rate a drama by the Ost- it's not fair.
It is still early to consider it to be in top 3 kdramas of this season. Maybe after I finish watching this drama I will make an opinion. :)

Yoochun's character so far has been the one of a innocent boy in love and who does not care about others say or think.
The short hair gives a different feeling presenting him as a more mature man. Also the stills reveled show a new side of him with a more serious expression.
A new haircut usually means a change in the character or the story line of a drama but there are not details revealed yet.
If you want to know why he is starting to change on the outside, and probably the inside do not miss the next episode that is set to air on Monday.

Ok so I haven't started this drama even though it looks very good for fear of a very depressing ending. I'll wait until it finishes and I can get a vibe from everyone's reactions as to whether or not I'll really start it. I don't think I can really handle a depressing ending at this point.
