This song narrates a different story of Saint Basil (Santa Claus). In this song, Old Billy heard a call of him being the Saint of the weak, poor, and downtrodden, and he had the power that night to win against the Evil King and return what he had stolen.
He answers the call, and he challenges the Evil King on an epic card game gamble! The stakes are high, and he beats the King, taking all his goods and riches as well as his castle.
He has a plan to return all the riches to the people, so he awakes all the bakers to make cakes. Inside the cakes he puts gold coins, and just before midnight (the year's end) he sends them to all the poor people's houses. In that way, he gives back to the common people what they got stolen by the rich and powerful, so they and their families won't get hungry again! (This is also similar to the origin of the Greek tradition of making "Vasilopita" (=Saint Basil's Pie) for the New Year's Eve, a cake where we put a coin inside, that will bring luck for the new year on whoever finds it.)
The song ends with a remembrance that the 1st day of the year is upon as, and we should reflect on Old Billy's night and the confidence it can lend us to stand for our dreams, and for what is right, as he stood and punished the villains to protect the weak.
