Recently it has come to my attention that something like "villainess stories" are becoming (already are) quite popular in anime and manga/webtoons/etc. (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Usf5AHfF9xA)

Sounds like something i would love to watch! Has this story trope trickled down to dramas? I havent been really watching dramas these days so i wouldnt know! Im looking for a story where the main lead is a villain. Redemption arc in the story is inevitable but let the lead have her villain era first :)

The only titles i can think of that maybe fit (but not really because it is good women transmigrating into  villainess' body) are The romance of tiger and rose and Till the end of the moon.

Hello can you give more details about what is a villainess? Someone who's cold and will walk on anybody to get ahead? Or someone who will commit crimes, maybe even violence?

Lost Romance - this is very similar to the webtoon stories. The fl writes a story, where she uses the ml'
s irl persona as a character for her book. Something happens and she ends up in her story as the villain. Now she tries to protect the heroine from all the problems but that makes her unintentionally even more the villain to the people that love the heroine. Untillllll.......... Anyways it is really having ll the characteristics of the typical villainess storylines.

Just recently made a list for this: https://mydramalist.com/list/320qEMW1

The one that's probably the closest to the webtoon villainess trope, where the FL is literally a villain archetype in a fictional universe, is Night of Love With You or Fortune Writer. That's also the case in Unexpected but here the ML is more the protagonist/focus of the drama than the FL.

you know... villainess is.. for a lack of a better word a /bitch/. NOT to be confused with /that bitch/ or /a bad bitch/ or simply "strong female lead" lmao. im looking for a character who is the opposite of the usual good/righteous female lead. shes a bully, maybe spiteful, etc etc. i think the video i linked before is more eloquent in explaining the whole concept. what i forgot to say - im mostly looking for romance adjacent stories :)

Thanks! I will put a good use to that list :)))

For me, the webtoon villainess trope is not the most important but honestly im struggling to describe what im actually looking for and this /is/ part of im looking for. Ill definitely check out the dramas you recommended :)

I really like this trope and I’m looking forward to the recs

https://mydramalist.com/19276-beautiful-accident a movie. Very much what you're looking for. Also a Korean version. Both versions are good. The Korean version might be better production and more upbeat.

https://mydramalist.com/5184-cheongdamdong-alice she starts off good, then strives to become a villain. It's an older drama.

https://mydramalist.com/22066-game-sanaeha Thai drama. She acts a lot like the spoiled 2nd FL.

https://mydramalist.com/759-get-karl-oh-soo-jung she's a golddigger but I couldn't help rooting for her. It's an old drama.

https://mydramalist.com/15090-i-have-a-lover perfect fit! She would (literally) walk over a dead body to get a little bit of success. Then things happen and lead to her redemption.

Please Don’t Spoil Me - writer enters her own story just when her character wanted to kill ML. She has to find a way how to follow the story and also survive bad ending.
