I read a fan translation of Da Mo Yao after watching Sound of the Desert a while back and enjoyed it. If you know of any good romance novel translations available online, I'd love to get your recommendations. They don't have to be novels that have been adapted into movies or dramas, but that would be a bonus.

try looking throw these websites:

NovelUpdates: https://www.novelupdates.com/

Bookshushengbar: http://www.books.shushengbar.com/

Wuxiaworld: http://www.wuxiaworld.com/

they're like big directories that link you to where novels have been translated

I am pretty sure that 90% of Chinese dramas these days are adapted from a novel of some sorts, so you can do some searching on those websites I linked or through a search engine. If nothing pops up, then there probably isn't any translation for the novel you're searching for.

From your completed list, here are cdramas that are adapted from a novel (to my knowledge, I may be missing some):

  1. a love so beautiful
  2. lost love in times
  3. love o2o
  4. my huckleberry friends
  5. princess agents
  6. once upon a time (ten miles of peach blossoms/eternal love)
  7. the imperial doctress
  8. princess weiyoung
  9. when a snail falls in love

krystalsoojungs, your post is amazing! It looks like there isn't a translation of the Imperial Doctress novel, so I think I'm going to start with PWY even though I've heard the novel is pretty different from the drama.

Thank you so much for this!

actually, after a careful search on Baidu, I don't think Imperial Doctress is adapted from a novel (I mixed this one up with a different doctress novel set in the Tang Dynasty. Instead it is based on a real-life female physician from the Ming Dynasty. Sorrrryyyy :((

PWY novel is definitely very very very different from the drama lol personally haven't read it but I heard it's pretty good??

And no problem, my pleasure. Enjoy~~

Ah that makes sense. Thank you for looking into it :)!

Boss and Me which I recently finished is also based on the novel Shan Shan Come and Eat. I watched the drama while reading the novel. Like most adaptations, they have some glaring differences but the gist of the plot and even some of the dialogue are retained.

I really enjoyed Love O2O the drama, which I believe is based on a novel by the same author as the writer for Shane Shane Come and Eat, but for some reason I couldn't get into Boss and Me. Maybe the novel will be more to my liking? Thanks for the recommendation :)
