With a group of teenage friends who have difficult lives (Drugs, mental illness, gender or sexual identity, heartbreak etc) and are trying to maintain their friendships anyway
No matter the country but a preference for Japanese dramas and with little or no romance

Sorry I don't have any Japanese shows for you. The only one I could think of was pretty heavy on romance. All of the shows down below have some romance but they focus more on friendship.
