Dear Diary, These Dramas Own My Heart (Rent-Free)

Dear Diary,
Welcome to my Kingdom of Tens, where only the dramas that captured my heart earn a place. They made me happy, emotional, and completely unwell in the best way. Some healed me, some made me cry, and every one of them still lives rent-free in my heart. šŸ˜šŸ’–

  • Boys over Flowers

    1. Boys over Flowers

    Japanese Drama - 2005, 9 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
THIS DRAMA STARTED EVERYTHING. I walked into Hana Yori Dango innocent and walked out with a Japanese drama addiction, a love for Matsumoto Jun and Oguri Shun, and apparently a lifelong commitment to watching rich fictional men cause problems. Out of every Boys Over Flowers adaptation, this is STILL my favorite. The drama? The chaos? The ridiculous rich people nonsense? I WAS SEATED.

The moment it became a favorite:
I WAS TEAM SECOND LEAD. LOYAL. COMMITTED. Domyoji could go kick rocks. Then this fool waited for Makino in the rain ALL NIGHT. At first I was still talking big: ā€œGirl, forget his ass. Let him marinate out there.ā€ But he kept waiting, and apparently my second-lead loyalty was water-soluble because the longer he stood there, the faster it dissolved. Then that idiot got sick afterward. IT WAS OVER. Sir, congratulations. You got me.

    The damage done:
Goodbye second lead. Hello Domyoji. Apparently all it takes to overthrow my allegiance is one stubborn man and terrible weather. Makino and Domyoji had me in a chokehold. I cried. I yelled. I wanted to personally kick several people. Every rough patch had me screaming, ā€œCAN WE HAVE PEACE FOR FIVE MINUTES?!ā€ Then I'd celebrate their reunions like I personally survived the relationship.

    Why it's forever:
This was my gateway drug into Japanese dramas. LOOK WHAT YOU STARTED! Hundreds of dramas later, Makino and Domyoji are STILL a forever OTP. Maybe it's nostalgia. Maybe it's Domyoji standing in that damn rain. Maybe my brain signed a lifetime lease and forgot to tell me. Either way: NO VACANCY. RENT-FREE STATUS: PERMANENT.

  • Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
    10

    What pulled me in:
THIS DRAMA WAS SO CUTE I WANTED TO SQUISH IT. It brought back all those fuzzy feelings from when I first fell in love with Japanese dramas. Simple, gentle, ridiculously wholesome — basically a warm blanket disguised as a BL. I was sitting there smiling at my screen like an idiot. Japan really said, ā€œHere, have some serotonin.ā€ THANK YOU.

The moment it became a favorite:
ADACHI. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. This precious cinnamon roll had me wanting to wrap him in bubble wrap and carry him around in my pocket for protection. Then Kurosawa showed up being the human embodiment of a green flag. He understands Adachi, respects him, supports him, and loves him so sincerely that I was like, ā€œOh thank God, somebody competent has custody of my baby.ā€

    The damage done:
I fell HARD for these two. Watching Adachi slowly gain confidence while Kurosawa stood on the sidelines like the president of the Adachi Fan Club had me ridiculously soft. No unnecessary macho nonsense. No ā€œI can fix him.ā€ Kurosawa basically said, ā€œI like you exactly as you are, but I’ll cheer while YOU grow.ā€ SIR?! WHO AUTHORIZED THIS LEVEL OF GREEN FLAG?! Meanwhile I’m over here grinning like their relationship personally lowered my blood pressure.

    Why it’s forever:
Cherry Magic didn’t need explosions, murder, betrayal, or somebody getting hit by Truck-kun to keep me invested. It just gave me two adorable idiots falling in love and somehow that was enough to turn me into emotional pudding. Sweet, funny, wholesome, magical — basically a BL fairytale. Years later, Adachi and Kurosawa still make me smile. 10/10 WOULD PUT THEM BOTH IN MY POCKET.

  • City Hunter

    3. City Hunter

    Korean Drama - 2011, 20 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
HELLO, LEE MIN HO FEVER. This was my first Lee Min Ho drama and apparently one was all it took. He came in looking cool, kicking ass, plotting revenge, and I said, ā€œYep. I understand the hype now.ā€ And I’m just gonna say it: I loved him MORE here than in Boys Over Flowers. SORRY, NOT SORRY. Give me Revenge Boi Lee Min Ho any day. The action, intensity, emotional stakes — I was hooked.

The moment it became a favorite:
When I realized I was literally biting my nails waiting to see how the revenge plot unfolded, I knew they had me. I WAS STRESSED. Every new development had me locked in… except there was one problem. Everybody kept yelling ā€œCITY HUNTER!ā€ and all my ears heard was ā€œSHITTY HUNTER!ā€ Once I heard it, I could NEVER unhear it. Here I am worried about revenge and survival while my brain is in the corner going, ā€œhehe… shitty hunter.ā€ GROW UP, BRAIN.

    The damage done:
This drama gave me EVERYTHING. Action? YES. Revenge? YES. Romance? YES. And somehow nobody let the romance hijack the revenge bus. THANK YOU, WRITERS. Even during the cute moments, Revenge Boi was lurking around the corner like, ā€œAhem. We still have people to destroy.ā€ The plot stayed focused, the tension stayed alive, and I stayed SEATED.

    Why it’s forever:
City Hunter didn’t just introduce me to Lee Min Ho — IT CREATED A PROBLEM. The man left this drama with permanent residency on my favorite-actor list. Years later, I still remember the action, revenge, romance, nail-biting tension… and unfortunately SHITTY HUNTER. My ears committed a crime and there is no appeal. Forever favorite.

  • Coffee Prince

    4. Coffee Prince

    Korean Drama - 2007, 17 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
OH COFFEE PRINCE, MY BELOVED. I had already watched plenty of ā€œgirl dresses like a guyā€ dramas, but this one actually had me believing it. Eun Chan wasn’t walking around looking like Miss Korea with a baseball cap while everyone screamed, ā€œWHAT A HANDSOME MAN!ā€ She genuinely looked like a soft pretty boy, and the whole story felt natural, warm, and ridiculously easy to fall into.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE ROMANCE. PERIOD. Watching Han Gyul go through the gay crisis of the CENTURY was hilarious, painful, and somehow beautiful at the same time. This man was fighting for his heterosexual LIFE. Meanwhile I’m watching like, ā€œSir… I regret to inform you that you are DOWN BAD.ā€ Then he basically reached the point of MAN? ALIEN? I DON’T CARE, I LOVE YOU and I was FINISHED. Folded immediately. Somebody scrape me off the floor.

    The damage done:
And then the Coffee Prince crew had to come along and make me love everybody too?! It was basically a cafĆ© full of lovable weirdos who accidentally became a family. I wanted a seat at that table! Give me an apron. I’ll wipe something down. Between the friendships and romance, the whole drama had this warmth that made leaving them feel RUDE.

    Why it’s forever:
Coffee Prince didn’t need some giant epic destiny to destroy me. It gave me a coffee shop, found family, and one man having an existential crisis because love showed up wearing the WRONG GENDER. And somehow that became one of the most sincere romances I’d watched. Years later, I still remember exactly how it made me feel. Coffee served. Sexuality questioned. Heart stolen. NO REFUNDS.

  • Deep In

    5. Deep In

    Chinese Drama - 2026, 12 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
ZHEN XIN AND ZHANG ZHUN BEING ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER. These two blurred acting and reality so badly that eventually I was like, ā€œDo either of you even know where the character ends anymore?!ā€ The intensity! The desperation! The I need this man like oxygen energy?! YES. FEED ME. And then the doctor Ɨ patient storyline had the AUDACITY to be addictive too?! WHY IS EVERY DEPARTMENT COOKING?!

The moment it became a favorite:
When I realized I wasn’t just waiting for episodes anymore. I WAS WAITING FOR THE WEEKEND. I’d watch the episode, rewatch it while the drama was STILL AIRING, then survive on edits until the next one. Friday and Saturday basically got renamed Zhen Xin & Zhang Zhun Day. At that point they weren’t living rent-free in my brain — THEY HAD CHANGED THE LOCKS.

    The damage done:
I became detective over every glance, confession, tiny shift, EVERYTHING. Episode ends? Straight to edits. New clip drops? SEATED. Finale approaching? Suddenly I’m negotiating directly with the drama gods: ā€œListen. We’ve come too far. DON’T GET CUTE NOW.ā€ Emotional stability was unavailable, but apparently I didn’t need it because I was having the TIME OF MY LIFE.

    Why it’s forever:
This drama reminded me why I love dramas this much. It gave me obsession, heartbreak, frustration, excitement, relief, and finally an ending that actually respected all that investment. When the finale ended, I didn’t feel ready to leave these people. I just wanted MORE. More episodes. More weekends. More THEM. FRIDAYS: HIJACKED. SATURDAYS: HIJACKED. BRAIN: OCCUPIED. EVICTION: DENIED. 10/10.

  • Devil beside You

    6. Devil beside You

    Taiwanese Drama - 2005, 20 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Devil Beside You was pure Taiwanese drama CHAOS and apparently that was exactly what I needed. Taiwanese comedy had its own special flavor back then — loud, silly, dramatic, and completely committed to the nonsense. I went in expecting a cute little drama and somehow ended up HOOKED. Logic occasionally left the building, but honestly? I was having too much fun to call it back.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE ROMANCE. I shipped these two so hard I wasn’t satisfied with the fictional relationship — I WANTED REAL-LIFE PAPERWORK. Their chemistry was ridiculous. And Mike He?! SIR. That man spent this drama personally attacking me with his face. Every smirk had me folding like a lawn chair. At some point I stopped watching responsibly and just accepted that Mike He had custody of my eyeballs.

    The damage done:
Now explain why I ended up rooting for a ā€œstepbrotherā€ to pursue his ā€œstepsister.ā€ HELLO?! If I remember correctly, he already liked her BEFORE their parents got married, so Brain Counsel reviewed the case and reluctantly approved the loophole. NO BLOOD RELATION. FEELINGS PRE-DATE PARENTAL NONSENSE. PROCEED. Because apparently chemistry this good will have me reading the fine print.

    Why it’s forever:
This drama was silly, messy, romantic, and completely unapologetic about it. EXACTLY MY KIND OF NONSENSE. The leads became a forever OTP, Mike He nearly caused a medical event, and somehow the Step-Sibling Technicality Departmentā„¢ survived judicial review. Years later, I don’t remember Devil Beside You for being perfect. I remember how much FUN I had. CHAOS DELIVERED. CHEMISTRY DELIVERED. MY SANITY DID NOT.

  • Down with Love

    7. Down with Love

    Taiwanese Drama - 2010, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
ANOTHER TAIWANESE DRAMA GOT ME. Jerry and Ella had ridiculous chemistry, but ELLA?! MY GIRL. She was so freaking cute in this role and absolutely committed to the Taiwanese slapstick nonsense. No dignity. No hesitation. Just ā€œYes, I WILL make this face for the joke.ā€ I adore her for it.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE PREMISE ALONE. This woman is pretending to be a lesbian while this poor man is slowly falling for her like, ā€œBut… she likes WOMEN?!ā€ Watching him spiral while his feelings refused to cooperate was COMEDY GOLD. Sir was out there trying to solve a romantic equation where every answer kept coming back ERROR 404: SHE DOESN’T WANT MEN. Meanwhile I’m on the couch having the time of my life.

    The damage done:
This drama confirmed something important about me: I LOVE TAIWANESE SLAPSTICK. Give me the exaggerated reactions. Give me the ridiculous situations. Give me Ella throwing her entire body into a joke. I WANT IT ALL. And somehow underneath all that foolishness, the romance stayed ridiculously cute. Then they added adorable kids?! EXCUSE ME. Now you’re attacking multiple emotional departments at once.

    Why it’s forever:
I’ve rewatched Down With Love multiple times and somehow the nonsense STILL works on me. I know the jokes are coming. I know the romance. I KNOW THE WHOLE OPERATION. And there I am again. That’s how I know a comfort drama has me permanently. Jerry and Ella still have the chemistry, the kids are still adorable, and apparently my Taiwanese slapstick tolerance has NO expiration date. REWATCH APPROVED. FOOLISHNESS STILL EFFECTIVE.

  • Full House

    8. Full House

    Thai Drama - 2014, 20 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
I love Rain, I DO. But Thai Full House walked into my house, took the Korean version’s chair, and said, ā€œThis belongs to me now.ā€ Mike and Aom had me from the START. Their chemistry was ridiculous — the kind where two people just look at each other and suddenly I’m leaning closer to the screen like I’ve been summoned.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE. ICE. CREAM. SCENE. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. Somebody explain why two people EATING ICE CREAM had me ready to fall out of my chair?! NOTHING WAS EVEN HAPPENING. And yet somehow EVERYTHING WAS HAPPENING. The tension?! The looks?! I was sitting there like, ā€œWhy is this ice cream scene rated PG but my eyeballs are reporting something entirely different?!ā€ SIR. MA’AM. IT IS DAIRY. CALM DOWN.

    The damage done:
I shipped them HARD. Not ā€œaww, cute coupleā€ hard. I mean ā€œSo when are y’all filing the real-life paperwork?ā€ hard. Every look had me investigating. Every interaction fed the delusion. At some point I was no longer watching responsibly. Mike and Aom had chemistry strong enough to make ICE CREAM scandalous. What was I supposed to do?!

    Why it’s forever:
The drama was fun, the romance delivered, but Mike and Aom were the EVENT. Years later, I can apparently still mention THE ICE CREAM SCENE like everybody should know exactly what historical incident I’m referring to. Put these two in another drama together and I’m there. No synopsis required. No trailer needed. CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT → PLAY BUTTON. That chemistry already passed inspection.

  • Goddess Bless You from Death

    9. Goddess Bless You from Death

    Thai Drama - 2025, 13 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
MURDER MYSTERY. Say less. Give me a body, suspects, clues, and questionable alibis and Detective Sere is CLOCKED IN. But then somebody added supernatural horror?! Ghosts? Spirits? Creepy things standing where creepy things SHOULD NOT BE STANDING?! I DID NOT ORDER THAT. I almost backed out, but curiosity won. Thank GOD, because apparently terror was the admission fee for greatness.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE MYSTERY WAS ACTUALLY GOOD?! I wasn’t grading on a BL curve either — the clues mattered, scenes had purpose, and the investigation had me THINKING. Then they gave me a beautiful romance and adorable chemistry ON TOP OF IT?! Suddenly I was spending my week waiting for Friday like these people personally had custody of my schedule. MURDER? ROMANCE? COMPETENT WRITING?! OH, WE’RE COOKING.

    The damage done:
Unfortunately, THE GHOST DEPARTMENT ALSO COOKED. I screamed. I jumped. I reconsidered every decision that led me to pressing play. Supernatural horror is my WEAKNESS and this drama apparently took that information as a challenge. Yet did I stop watching? NO. I was scared and still showed up every Friday like, ā€œOkay, demons, run me my episode.ā€ And somewhere between investigating murders and fearing for my life, I completely fell for the leads.

    Why it’s forever:
A supernatural horror BL becoming my #1 drama of 2025 was NOT on my bingo card. But this drama earned it: fantastic mystery, romance I adored, tight writing, great performances, and enough terror to shorten my lifespan. It crossed one of my biggest genre boundaries and had me THANKING IT afterward. DETECTIVE SERE: FED. ROMANCE GIRLIE: FED. HORROR GIRLIE: STILL DOESN’T EXIST. 10/10.

  • Gokusen

    10. Gokusen

    Japanese Drama - 2002, 12 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Let the record show: I AM A ROMANCE GIRLIE. If you tell me a drama has basically zero romance, my first question is usually, ā€œOkay… so what am I supposed to do here?ā€ And yet Gokusen somehow got me. No swooning. No OTP to obsess over. Just Yankumi trying to keep a classroom full of delinquent gremlins alive, educated, and pointed vaguely toward a future. AND I WAS SEATED?!

The moment it became a favorite:
The moment I realized I had completely STOPPED waiting for romance. That is when I knew this drama had performed witchcraft. I was too busy laughing, getting emotional, and rooting for these misfit boys like I had personally enrolled in their class. Every time Yankumi went to bat for them, I was like, ā€œTHAT’S RIGHT! THOSE ARE OUR DELINQUENTS!ā€ Suddenly I had joint custody of an entire classroom.

    The damage done:
These little troublemakers got me attached! Under all the comedy and chaos, Gokusen had genuine heart. The lessons actually landed without feeling like somebody dragged a motivational poster onto my screen. And HELLO, BABY MATSUMOTO JUN. So young! So adorable! Sir, I already knew Future You would cause me problems. Consider this foreshadowing.

    Why it’s forever:
Gokusen accomplished something VERY few dramas can brag about: it made me forget to demand romance. That is basically sorcery. I came for a drama completely outside my usual lane and left emotionally attached to a teacher and her collection of delinquent children. Heart, comedy, lovable characters, and Baby Jun as a bonus prize? ROMANCE DEPARTMENT CLOSED. SOMEHOW I SURVIVED.

  • Guardians of the Dafeng

    11. Guardians of the Dafeng

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 40 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
This drama got me WITHOUT using my usual weakness: romance. Instead, it handed me adventure, mysteries, friendship, hilarious characters, and Dylan Wang — MY FOREVER BOO — running around solving cases like Detective Boi Supreme. Apparently that combination was enough because I went from casually watching to ā€œWelp, guess I live in Dafeng now.ā€

The moment it became a favorite:
THE REWATCHES. I kept putting this drama back on until my FAMILY — people who do not even watch Chinese dramas — started recognizing it. Do you understand the level of exposure required?! At that point this wasn’t a rewatch. Dafeng had become household programming. And every single time I turned it on? Instant happiness.

    The damage done:
I LOVE THESE PEOPLE. His sidekicks? ADOPTED. His ridiculous family? ADOPTED. Yan Yan?! MY GOLD GUARDIAN. The world itself had me invested because everything felt like it mattered and I wanted to know MORE. The princess was adorable, the little romance we got was cute, and DYLAN?! Sir. The charm, confidence, comedy, detective work — he was having way too much fun in this role and I was having way too much fun watching him.

    Why it’s forever:
Guardians of the Dafeng is pure serotonin for me. I don’t even have to rewatch it — THINKING about it activates the Guardian theme song in my head. That’s how deeply this foolishness has embedded itself. Friendship, family, adventure, mysteries, a world I want more of, and Dylan being Dylan? SOLD. And after THAT ending, I need season two immediately. ROMANCE OPTIONAL. DAFENG REQUIRED. THEME SONG ACTIVATED. 10/10.

  • Hana-Kimi

    12. Hana-Kimi

    Japanese Drama - 2007, 12 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Japanese dramas really used to look at a completely unhinged premise and say, ā€œYep. Put it on television.ā€ A girl sneaks into an ALL-BOYS SCHOOL because of ONE BOY?! Girl, there had to be an easier way to help him. But Hana Kimi committed to the nonsense so completely that I had no choice but to come along for the ride.

The moment it became a favorite:
Honestly? THE WHOLE CHAOTIC FRIEND GROUP. The romance was cute, but these fools had me CRYING. Every episode felt like someone unlocked the asylum and gave everybody a school uniform. The jokes just kept coming, and somehow years later I STILL remember some of them. That is how deeply this nonsense infected my brain.

    The damage done:
OGURI SHUN. Cute, cool… and apparently one sip away from becoming a DRUNK KISSING MONSTER. Sir was handing out kisses like party favors! Then this drama introduced me to Ikuta Toma, aka MR. SAVING WATER FOR THE PLANET. If you know, YOU KNOW. Between him spiraling, the ridiculous school antics, and everybody sharing one collective brain cell, I was having the time of my life.

    Why it’s forever:
I've rewatched Hana Kimi and the foolishness STILL FOOLISHES. There have been multiple remakes, but this version has something nobody has managed to bottle again. Maybe it was the cast. Maybe it was the timing. Maybe Japan temporarily opened a portal to concentrated chaos. Whatever happened, IT WORKED. ROMANCE CUTE. FRIENDSHIPS ELITE. SANITY OPTIONAL. Forever favorite.

  • He's Coming to Me

    13. He's Coming to Me

    Thai Drama - 2019, 8 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
A GHOST Ɨ HUMAN ROMANCE?! Oh, so we’re suffering. GREAT. I went into He’s Coming to Me already preparing my emotional funeral because how exactly is this supposed to end happily?! One of you is DEAD. THE MATH IS NOT MATHING. But apparently the writers looked at the laws of life and death and said, ā€œMind your business.ā€

The moment it became a favorite:
Instead of the gloomy tragedy I ordered, these two started being CUTE?! EXCUSE ME?! Their relationship was so soft and sincere that somewhere along the way I stopped preparing for devastation and started rooting for the impossible. Every little moment had me like, ā€œOkay but hear me out… maybe Ghost Boi CAN have nice things.ā€ Logic had left. Delusion was driving.

    The damage done:
THE YEARNING. Two people falling in love while something as simple as TOUCHING is complicated?! RUDE. Every almost-touch, every quiet look, every fluffy moment had me emotionally compromised. I knew one of these men was literally deceased and STILL had the audacity to demand a happy ending. Death certificate? I DON’T KNOW HER. FIX IT, WRITERS.

    Why it’s forever:
AND THE CRAZY BASTARDS DID. I came prepared to file emotional damages and somehow left HAPPY. He’s Coming to Me took ghost Ɨ human — a premise practically wearing a TRAGEDY INCOMING sign — and gave me warmth, tenderness, chemistry, and HOPE. I’ve rewatched it and would happily do it again. DEATH TRIED TO BLOCK MY OTP. DEATH LOST. 10/10.

  • I Hear Your Voice

    14. I Hear Your Voice

    Korean Drama - 2013, 18 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
THIS DRAMA GAVE ME LEE JONG SUK. Do I really need more evidence?! My forever Korean fave. My ultimate babe. A man who could probably have chemistry with a LAMP if the director asked nicely. This was my first drama with him and apparently my brain immediately went, ā€œYep. Keep this one forever.ā€ And then the actual drama had the audacity to be GOOD too?!

The moment it became a favorite:
I’m pretty sure this was my first older woman Ɨ younger man romance, and initially I was like, ā€œMmmm…I don’t know about this.ā€ Then Mr. Chemistry-With-Everything went to work. Suddenly I understood. Suddenly I was INVESTED. Suddenly I was searching for more noona romances. AND THAT KISS?! If you know, YOU KNOW. Whatever objections I had were dismissed for lack of evidence.

    The damage done:
Then there was THAT VILLAIN. This man was genuinely terrifying. Not cartoon evil. Not ā€œboo, hiss, go away.ā€ I mean LOCK THE DOORS, CHECK THE WINDOWS, WHERE IS HE?! Every time he appeared, my anxiety clocked in for another shift. And THANK YOU, WRITERS, for not making him mysteriously lose 70 IQ points just so the leads could win. He stayed dangerous until the end, and when they finally got him? CHEF’S KISS. EARNED. SATISFYING. NO WRITER-INDUCED STUPIDITY REQUIRED.

    Why it’s forever:
I Hear Your Voice really came into my life, gave me romance, suspense, a terrifying villain, an earned takedown, AND introduced me to Lee Jong Suk?! GREEDY. Years later, that man is STILL my Korean #1, and this drama gets to proudly sit there knowing IT STARTED THE PROBLEM. One drama created a lifelong actor obsession. 10/10. RENT PAID IN PERPETUITY.

  • In Time with You

    15. In Time with You

    Taiwanese Drama - 2011, 13 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
These two could've spent an entire episode buying groceries and I would've been like, ā€œTHIS IS CINEMA.ā€ Their chemistry was THAT natural. No fireworks needed. No dramatic slow-motion entrance. Just put them in the same room doing absolutely nothing and somehow I’m staring at them like, ā€œYep. Those two belong together. Case closed.ā€

The moment it became a favorite:
It was the way their love felt like HOME. Not just ā€œaww, cute couple.ā€ No. This was my person, my soulmate, I’d find you in every lifetime territory. Every quiet conversation, look, comfortable silence — EVERYTHING screamed, ā€œThat’s your person, you idiots. PLEASE CONNECT THE DOTS.ā€ Meanwhile they’re terrified that crossing the friendship line might destroy what they already have. Understandable. Also: GET TOGETHER BEFORE I DO IT FOR YOU.

    The damage done:
The plot was simple because honestly, WHO NEEDED MORE?! I was already emotionally occupied watching two people who clearly belonged together spend forever being scared to risk it. Their kisses? HELLO. Their conversations? Inject them into my veins. Them simply existing beside each other? Apparently enough to keep me seated. Shakespeare could keep his tragic nonsense — I WANT THIS. Give me the person who knows me completely and STILL says, ā€œYep, that one. Forever.ā€

    Why it’s forever:
Some people thought In Time With You was too simple. MEANWHILE I WAS ASCENDING. It understood that love doesn't have to explode to feel enormous. Sometimes your grand romance is just the person who's been beside you all along, knowing your nonsense and loving you anyway. All you have to do is risk changing everything to finally choose each other. SOULMATE STATUS: CONFIRMED. RENT-FREE LEASE: LIFETIME.

  • Love between Fairy and Devil

    16. Love between Fairy and Devil

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 36 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
DONGFANG QINGCANG. Or more accurately: HELLO, DYLAN WANG. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! This drama introduced me to the man who would become my favorite Chinese actor, and apparently my fate was sealed immediately. Every time he appeared looking all powerful and ridiculously fine, my eyeballs were like, ā€œYes. We live here now.ā€ And then you add xianxia fantasy on top?! I DIDN’T STAND A CHANCE.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE LOVE STORY. Forbidden love already has preferential access to my heart, but these two?! Dongfang Qingcang went from terrifying Moon Supreme to DOWN HORRENDOUS for one tiny fairy and I ate up EVERY SECOND. And Orchid, my adorable little dense baby! Watching their relationship grow from ā€œwhy am I stuck with you?ā€ to ā€œI will challenge heaven and earth for youā€?! INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS.

    The damage done:
I have rewatched this drama an EMBARRASSING number of times. Four? Five? WHO’S COUNTING?! And THE OST?! The second that main theme starts, my hands go straight into the air like I’m at Sunday service. YES LORD, TAKE ME BACK TO CANGYAN SEA. Even the human-world bromance between Dongfang Qingcang and Changheng had me entertained. Enemies temporarily becoming bros?! THANK YOU FOR THIS BONUS CONTENT.

    Why it’s forever:
This drama caused PROBLEMS. It gave me Dylan Wang, made me fall in love with xianxia, gave me one of my favorite fictional couples, and apparently installed a permanent rewatch button in my brain. The cast delivered, Orchid was precious, Dongfang Qingcang was DREAMY, and that forbidden love owned me completely. MOON SUPREME ACQUIRED. XIANXIA ADDICTION ACTIVATED. OST HANDS: RAISED. 10/10.

  • Love in the Air

    17. Love in the Air

    Thai Drama - 2022, 13 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:

CHEMISTRY. Romance. These men actually convinced me they were couples, and I mean couples. It wasn't just the NC scenes either. It was the hugs, random pecks, kisses, cuddling, and casual affection. Those little moments made PayuRain and PrapaiSky feel REAL. And these were ROOKIES?! Excuse me?! Somebody clearly forgot to tell them. The pacing was also perfect for me. Not once did I feel like the story was dragging.

The moment it became a favorite:

Prapai and Sky. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE EVIDENCE. I was obsessed with them. PrapaiSky grabbed me by the collar and said, ā€œYou live here now.ā€ PayuRain took me longer. In fact, they were originally the reason I deducted 0.5 because I didn't love them as much as PrapaiSky. But after rewatches and seeing the actors together in other dramas, I finally boarded the PayuRain train. And now?! MOVE OVER, I NEED A WINDOW SEAT. I absolutely love them too. That original 0.5 deduction no longer makes sense. 10/10. APPEAL GRANTED.

    The damage done:

I HAVE REWATCHED THIS DRAMA SO MANY TIMES. BL drought? Love in the Air. Random rewatch mood? Love in the Air. Want ridiculous chemistry and romance? HELLO AGAIN. At this point, it's emergency BL supplies. And yes, there are red flags. We've already established that apparently I see certain fictional red flags and go: ā€œBut is the chemistry good?ā€

I KNOW WHO I AM. LET ME LIVE.

    Why it’s forever:

Because years later, I don't love this drama less. I LOVE IT MORE. PrapaiSky were always my babies, but now PayuRain are right there with them. I've watched plenty of BLs since, yet whenever the BL streets get dry, I can come back here and have a good time. Some dramas get worse when you revisit them. This one somehow talked me into raising its rating. Dear Diary, the 9.5 era is officially over.

Love in the Air has entered the Kingdom of Tens.

  • Love O2O

    18. Love O2O

    Chinese Drama - 2016, 30 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Love O2O was basically STRESS-FREE ROMANCE HEAVEN. No constant misunderstandings. No ā€œI saw you standing beside another man, so obviously you’ve betrayed me.ā€ Just two ridiculously attractive people falling in love while I sat there thinking, ā€œOh… so we CAN communicate like adults?!ā€ REVOLUTIONARY.

The moment it became a favorite:
XIAO NAI. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. Sir set the bar in ORBIT. He trusted Wei Wei, defended her, believed her, and never left her fighting nonsense alone. Then this man casually handed her his WALLET?! SIR??? No hesitation. Just ā€œHere, babe.ā€ I would've been standing beside Wei Wei like, ā€œScoot over, there’s room in this relationship for one more.ā€

    The damage done:
Xiao Nai and Wei Wei gave me exactly what I wanted: trust, support, affection, and PEACE. My blood pressure said thank you. Then Hao Mei and K.O. showed up being suspiciously couple-shaped. Censorship: ā€œThey’re just bros.ā€ Novel girlies: ā€œLOL. No.ā€ ME: ā€œEVIDENCE ACCEPTED.ā€ Apparently this may have been my first encounter with the ancient Chinese drama tradition of BL? WHAT BL? THESE TWO MEN ARE SIMPLY VERY DEVOTED ROOMMATES.

    Why it’s forever:
Love O2O proved romance doesn’t need twelve breakups and an evil mother with a checkbook to keep me entertained. Give me chemistry, trust, cute side characters, and a man who looks at his girl and says, ā€œObviously I believe you.ā€ THAT’S THE GOOD STUFF. Xiao Nai permanently damaged the boyfriend grading curve and I have no regrets. WALLET HANDED OVER. BLOOD PRESSURE STABLE. 10/10.

  • Love of the Divine Tree

    19. Love of the Divine Tree

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 40 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Okay. Fine. HIS FACE. I spent an unreasonable amount of this drama looking at the male lead like, ā€œSir, could you please be less beautiful? I’m trying to follow the plot.ā€ Every other scene my eyeballs were filing for custody. BUT I SWEAR THAT’S NOT WHY THIS IS A 10. Pretty Boi got me through the door. The actual story made me stay.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE ROMANCE. This man said rules? Expectations? Everybody else’s opinion? SOUNDS LIKE A YOU PROBLEM. When it came down to choosing her or pleasing the world, HE CHOSE HIS WOMAN. Every. Damn. Time. And you already know this is my weakness. Give me a man willing to look at the entire world and say, ā€œActually, I’m with her,ā€ and I’m GONE. THAT’S MY KIND OF BOI.

    The damage done:
And the CHEMISTRY?! Pretty Boi wasn’t carrying this alone. I loved HER too! She was fun, lovable, and gave him exactly the energy he needed. Together they had me completely invested. Every interaction worked, the devotion HIT, and apparently my eyeballs and my heart formed a joint venture because BOTH were having a fantastic time.

    Why it’s forever:
AND THEN CHINA GAVE ME A REAL HAPPY ENDING?! Not five seconds of happiness before credits. Not reincarnation eye contact from 40 feet away. Not ā€œmaybe they reunited, interpret it yourself.ā€ AN ACTUAL SATISFYING ENDING. I was SHOCKED. China, sweetheart, I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT NOW. The evidence has been submitted. PRETTY BOI ACQUIRED. WORLD DEFIED. WOMAN CHOSEN. ENDING ACTUALLY FINISHED. 10/10.

  • My Boss, My Hero

    20. My Boss, My Hero

    Japanese Drama - 2006, 10 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
A GROWN-ASS GANGSTER GOES BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL. That’s the premise. That’s what Japan placed on the table and said, ā€œTrust us.ā€ And apparently I did because somehow this ridiculous nonsense WORKED. Here is a man dealing with criminals one minute and then sitting at a tiny school desk worrying about HOMEWORK the next. CINEMA.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE CLASSROOM SCENE. The teacher starts picking students to answer questions and Gangster Boi immediately enters survival mode. His face is basically screaming, ā€œNot me. Not me. Dear God, PLEASE NOT ME.ā€ I HAVE NEVER RELATED TO A GANGSTER MORE IN MY LIFE. Every student knows that strategy: avoid eye contact, become one with the desk, perhaps the teacher will forget you exist.

    The damage done:
This drama had ZERO shame and I respect that. It didn’t try to make the premise less ridiculous. It said, ā€œActually, we can get stupider.ā€ And then DID. The facial expressions, absurd situations, school nonsense — everybody committed like their lives depended on the joke. I was laughing so hard my dignity had to wait outside.

    Why it’s forever:
My Boss, My Hero is one of those dramas I can throw on when life is annoying and immediately feel better. No complicated explanation needed. Sometimes I just want to watch a dangerous gangster experience the absolute HORROR of being called on in class. It committed to the foolishness and so did I. GANGSTER STATUS: FEARED. ACADEMIC STATUS: LORD HELP HIM. 10/10.

  • My Love from the Star

    21. My Love from the Star

    Korean Drama - 2013, 21 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
My Love from the Star had me almost immediately. Alien Boi who’s been stuck on Earth for centuries falls for an absolutely CHAOTIC celebrity?! SAY LESS. The romance had everything I wanted — swoons, drama, ridiculous situations, and chemistry strong enough to make me forget one of these people was technically not from this planet.

The moment it became a favorite:
CHEON SONG YI. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. I usually walk away swooning over the man, but this woman said, ā€œMove over, sir. SHE’S MINE.ā€ She was dramatic, ridiculous, confident, vulnerable, hilarious, and an absolute MENACE. I had a full-blown girl crush. Every time she did something unhinged I was like, ā€œYES GIRL! …Actually maybe don’t do that. TOO LATE.ā€

    The damage done:
And Do Min Joon pretending he didn’t care?! SIR, PLEASE. That emotionally constipated alien was DOWN BAD and everybody with functioning eyeballs knew it. Their chemistry had me swooning… while THAT VILLAIN had me checking the locks. Years later, I watched an interview where the actor casually dropped THAT health line and my soul immediately tried to evacuate my body. MY HEALTH IS FINE, SIR. EXCELLENT ACTUALLY. NEVER BEEN HEALTHIER.

    Why it’s forever:
This drama gave me romance, comedy, suspense, Alien Boi falling helplessly in love, one terrifying psychopath, AND Cheon Song Yi being Cheon Song Yi. What more did I need?! Years later, I still remember the swoons, the foolishness, and apparently the villain-induced medical anxiety. ALIEN ACQUIRED. GIRL CRUSH ACTIVATED. HEALTH STATUS: PERFECT. 10/10.

  • Nobuta wo Produce

    22. Nobuta wo Produce

    Japanese Drama - 2005, 10 episodes

    10

The moment it became a favorite:
When I realized there was basically NO ROMANCE and I DIDN’T CARE?! Who was I?! Instead, I was completely invested in these messy little humans trying to survive school and themselves. Even the popular kid didn’t have life figured out. THANK YOU. Finally, teenagers acting like teenagers instead of 17-year-old CEOs with a five-year life plan.

    The damage done:
THE FRIENDSHIP. Messy, awkward, funny, imperfect — exactly how school friendships actually feel. And then there was AKIRA. My lovable little weirdo! This man entered the screen operating on his own frequency and I immediately adopted him. AKIRA SHOCK! Why did that stupid little thing make me laugh EVERY TIME?! This drama also introduced me to YamaPi and Kazu-chan, so apparently it was handing out future favorites like party favors.

    Why it’s forever:
Nobuta wo Produce makes me nostalgic for a whole stage of life. No flashy twists. No romance required. Just friendship, growing up, figuring yourself out, and realizing everybody around you is probably winging it too. Years later, I still remember how it made me feel — and apparently AKIRA SHOCK still lives in my brain without paying a dime. FRIENDSHIP ACQUIRED. NOSTALGIA ACTIVATED. RENT: NEVER COLLECTED. 10/10.

  • Nodame Cantabile

    23. Nodame Cantabile

    Japanese Drama - 2006, 11 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
CONFESSION: I skipped this drama MULTIPLE TIMES because I thought it looked boring as hell. Every time I saw it I was like, ā€œClassical music? Mmmm… NEXT.ā€ Then one day I was bored enough to finally press play and apparently the universe said, ā€œOh, you think you know everything? WATCH THIS.ā€ I owe this drama a formal apology.

The moment it became a favorite:
NODAME. At first I was basically Chiaki! He looked at this strange little woman like, ā€œWhat the hell is wrong with her?ā€ and honestly? SAME. She wasn’t quirky. She was QUIRKY QUIRKY. Then slowly, somehow, her weird little self became adorable. And suddenly I realized Chiaki was falling for her… AND SO WAS I?! EXCUSE ME. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!

    The damage done:
These two snuck up on me! Their relationship grew so naturally that I went from ā€œWhy would he like her?ā€ to ā€œTHAT’S YOUR WOMAN, SIR. ACT ACCORDINGLY.ā€ And then the classical music got me too?! The SAME THING I thought would make this drama boring became one of my favorite parts. I came in disrespecting the orchestra and left like, ā€œTURN THAT SYMPHONY UP.ā€

    Why it’s forever:
Nodame Cantabile humbled me. I judged the cover, the premise, probably the font — EVERYTHING — and this drama proceeded to prove me wrong one episode at a time. It gave me comedy, romance, lovable weirdos, and a genuine new appreciation for classical music. The drama I kept rejecting somehow became one of my favorites EVER. JUDGMENT: TERRIBLE. DECISION TO FINALLY WATCH: ELITE. 10/10.

  • Operation Love

    24. Operation Love

    Japanese Drama - 2007, 11 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
This drama caught me at EXACTLY the right time. I really wanted to believe in second chances, and here comes Operation Love with a man repeatedly going back in time trying to fix things with the one who got away. Oh, so we’re attacking me PERSONALLY today?! COOL. I was emotionally compromised before this man finished his first reset.

The moment it became a favorite:
I understood him WAY too much. The regret. The hesitation. That horrible ā€œIf I could just go back, I would’ve said this… done that… NOT BEEN AN IDIOT.ā€ Watching him get another chance at moments he'd fumbled had me fully invested. Every reset I was basically his unpaid coach: ā€œOkay, Boi. We’ve been blessed with ANOTHER opportunity. PLEASE DON’T SCREW IT UP THIS TIME.ā€

    The damage done:
And naturally, he did not always follow my excellent advice. But that’s what made it work. Going back wasn’t some magical CTRL+Z button where everything instantly became perfect. He still had to grow, make different choices, and actually SAY THE THINGS. Sir, time itself is bending for you. USE YOUR WORDS. Every reset meant something because changing the past required him to change too.

    Why it’s forever:
Operation Love found me when I needed its message most: maybe regret doesn’t have to be the end of the story. I came for a cute time-travel romance and somehow got emotionally mugged by second chances, courage, and all the things we wish we’d done differently. I can’t separate this drama from who I was when I watched it — and honestly, I don’t want to. TIME RESET. HEART ATTACKED. PERMANENT RESIDENCY GRANTED. 10/10.

  • Pursuit of Jade

    25. Pursuit of Jade

    Chinese Drama - 2026, 40 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
THE ROMANCE GOT ME IMMEDIATELY. Every episode somehow gave me another reason to become more obsessed until suddenly I was counting down release days and recommending this drama like I was on payroll. Nobody asked? DIDN’T MATTER. HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT PURSUIT OF JADE?! At some point this stopped being casual viewing and became a daily appointment.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE MARQUIS WAS DOWN CATASTROPHIC. That man lost his entire heart to Chang Yu and I was CHEERING. But what made them elite was SHE MATCHED HIM. Chang Yu wasn’t sitting around waiting for her man to save the day — she was courageous, determined, and ready to risk everything for HIM too. MUTUAL DEVOTION?! MY FAVORITE FOOD. And their chemistry?! Somebody check the wiring because THE SCREEN IS SMOKING.

    The damage done:
Then came those damn VILLAIN BROTHERS. Sir. SIRS. Why are you terrible people walking around with this much CHARISMA?! And it wasn’t even about their faces! It was the AURA. The presence. The absolute nerve of being evil while this magnetic. I’d be watching them commit villainy while part of my brain went, ā€œā€¦but why did he do it so attractively?ā€ SOMEBODY TAKE ME TO A TEMPLE. MY MORAL COMPASS NEEDS CLEANSING.

    Why it’s forever:
Pursuit of Jade fed EVERY department: romance, chemistry, friendships, a heroine with agency, a man hopelessly in love, and apparently Villain Appreciation Servicesā„¢ against my will. I counted down for episodes, talked about it constantly, and it actually STUCK THE LANDING. MARQUIS: FOLDED. CHANG YU: QUEEN. VILLAINS: DISTURBINGLY CHARISMATIC. JUDGMENT: COMPROMISED. 10/10.

  • Reply 1997

    26. Reply 1997

    Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
WHO IS THE HUSBAND?! That mystery had me from the START. Forget casually watching — I was collecting evidence. Every look? EXHIBIT A. Suspicious interaction? EXHIBIT B. Reply 1997 turned a romance into an investigation and apparently nobody told them Detective Sere had entered the building. And YES, I GUESSED RIGHT. Naturally, I would like that entered into the official record.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE ROMANCE. Once those feelings started hitting, I was DONE. The chemistry felt so natural that every little moment mattered. And because I already had my husband suspect selected, I was watching like, ā€œTHAT’S HIM. I KNOW THAT’S HIM. WRITERS, DON’T PLAY WITH ME.ā€ Then the truth came out and I was RIGHT?! Oh, the satisfaction. Detective Sere collected her badge and went HOME.

    The damage done:
Then this drama attacked my fangirl DNA. I wasn’t even a teenager in 1997 Korea, but the boy-band obsession?! The screaming? The emotional investment like these celebrities personally knew we existed?! I KNOW THIS LIFE. Different country, different era, SAME FANGIRL LIFE. Then they wrapped all that nostalgia around friendship, family, and romance like they were trying to emotionally adopt me.

    Why it’s forever:
And HELLO, SEO IN GUK. Another drama, another man added to my favorites. This cast made everything feel REAL — the friendships, family nonsense, first love, fangirl insanity, all of it. Reply 1997 somehow made me nostalgic for an era that wasn’t even mine while reminding me of one that WAS. HUSBAND GUESSED. FANGIRL REPRESENTED. SEO IN GUK ACQUIRED. 10/10.

  • Reset

    27. Reset

    Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
THADA. Lord, I have seen what you have done for Armin, and I am respectfully requesting similar services. THIS MAN?! Green Flag Boi from head to toe. Supportive, patient, attentive, devoted — Armin could ask for something and Thada was basically already halfway there. I spent half this drama watching him like, ā€œSo… where does one order a Thada? Is there a waiting list?ā€

The moment it became a favorite:
Now, first we had to survive Episodes 1–5 because ARMIN AND THAT MOUTH. Sir, sometimes we can keep thoughts INSIDE our head! I was stressed! But once we cleared that obstacle course?! ROMANCE HEAVEN. Thada understood him, supported him, and kept choosing him without making his love feel conditional. At some point I realized I wasn’t simply enjoying them anymore. I WAS EMOTIONALLY COOKED.

    The damage done:
THE KISSES. I have replayed certain scenes an amount of times that will remain between me, God, and my browser history. The way Thada kisses Armin?! SIR. There was one particular kiss that had me hitting replay like maybe new footage would appear on attempt #17. And yes, I have genuinely prayed for this kind of romance. I SAID WHAT I SAID. Plus Veynai and Janine?! GIVE THEM A SERIES. I would arrive Episode 1 with snacks.

    Why it’s forever:
Reset gave me exactly what I want from romance: devotion, tenderness, chemistry, emotional payoff, and a man who made me reconsider whether fictional boyfriend applications should be accepted. And I am NOT finished with these leads. Whoever handles casting, please return them to me immediately. GREEN FLAG: SECURED. KISS: REPLAYED. PRAYER: SUBMITTED. REUNION PROJECT: REQUIRED. 10/10.

  • School 2013

    28. School 2013

    Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
A KOREAN school drama?! Japan was usually where I go for my school-drama fix, so I wasn’t expecting School 2013 to come in swinging like THIS. It was heavier, rawer, and way more emotional than I expected. I came looking for school drama and apparently enrolled in PAIN ACADEMY.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE BROMANCE. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. I did not need romance because these two had me invested like they were going through the most devastating breakup in television history. Their friendship was BROKEN broken, and watching all that hurt, anger, and history slowly unravel?! JUST MAKE UP ALREADY, I AM TIRED. When they finally started finding their way back to each other, I was rooting like their friendship personally affected my credit score.

    The damage done:
THE BULLYING?! Absolutely not. Several children had me mentally removing my belt like somebody’s exhausted older sister. LINE UP. WE’RE RESTORING ORDER TODAY. But that rawness is exactly why the drama hit so hard. These kids were hurting, struggling, screwing up, growing, and trying to survive school and each other. I cried. I smiled. I wanted to fight teenagers. A FULL EXPERIENCE.

    Why it’s forever:
School 2013 proved once again that apparently I CAN survive without romance when you give me relationships worth caring about. That friendship carried enough emotional weight for an entire love story. It gave me pain, healing, growth, hope, and two idiots finding their way back to each other. ROMANCE DEPARTMENT: CLOSED. BROMANCE DEPARTMENT: WORKING OVERTIME. 10/10.

  • Secret Garden

    29. Secret Garden

    Korean Drama - 2010, 20 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
HYUN BIN IN THAT DAMN SPARKLY TRACKSUIT. Whoever decided a rich, arrogant man needed to strut around looking like a bedazzled blueberry deserves compensation. Secret Garden was ridiculous from the START and I loved every second of it. Rich Boi attitude? Check. Unhinged comedy? Check. Tracksuit apparently worth more than my entire wardrobe? CHECK.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE AMNESIA. This man gets into an accident, forgets Ra Im, basically gets his entire relationship hard drive WIPED… and then FALLS FOR HER AGAIN?! EXCUSE ME?! New brain, same woman. When he still chose her, I was FINISHED. His memories said, ā€œWho is she?ā€ while his heart said, ā€œTHAT’S MY GIRL, MOVE.ā€ Somebody pick me up off the floor.

    The damage done:
Then we had the BODY SWAP. Watching these two try to operate each other’s bodies was comedy GOLD. Dignity? GONE. And OSCAR?! My ridiculous beloved. Between him, the body-swapping foolishness, and the romance, this drama had me laughing, crying, and swooning like it was rotating emotional shifts. PICK A DEPARTMENT, SECRET GARDEN. MY NERVOUS SYSTEM IS TIRED.

    Why it’s forever:
Secret Garden gave me magic, romance, comedy, heartbreak, lovable fools, and one sparkly tracksuit that achieved cultural immortality. But that love story got me most. You can apparently wipe this man’s entire romantic operating system and he’ll just reinstall RaIm.exe. MEMORY: DELETED. LOVE: BACKED UP TO THE CLOUD. 10/10.

  • Shut Up: Flower Boy Band

    30. Shut Up: Flower Boy Band

    Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
I KNEW. I went into Shut Up: Flower Boy Band already knowing there was pain waiting for me. The warning signs were posted. The emotional hazard tape was UP. Did I turn around? Of course not. Apparently I saw the train coming and said, ā€œMmmm… maybe it’ll go around me.ā€ Spoiler: IT DID NOT.

The moment it became a favorite:
JU BYEONG HUI. THAT MAN WAS MY EVERYTHING. And the worst part?! I already knew Lee Min Ki wasn’t the actual male lead. I had this information BEFORE pressing play. My brain had the evidence and my heart said, ā€œIrrelevant. That’s my man.ā€ I fell HARD. My fictional soulmate! My beautiful chaotic baby! And then… THEY TOOK HIM FROM ME. I cried so much I basically filed bereavement leave from the drama.

    The damage done:
I STOPPED WATCHING FOR WEEKS. Not hours. Not ā€œI’ll continue tomorrow.ā€ WEEKS. I needed to GRIEVE before I could look at these people again! But when I finally returned, those boys got me. The bromance, their friendship, their grief, watching them keep going together — THAT sold the drama. And somehow, after emotionally assaulting me, it even got me invested in the romance. THE AUDACITY.

    Why it’s forever:
This drama broke my heart and then made me stay long enough to watch everyone put theirs back together. I loved these boys. I loved their friendship. I loved the romance. And apparently Ju Byeong Hui permanently moved into the section of my brain labeled FICTIONAL DEATHS I HAVE NOT FORGIVEN. Years later, I’m STILL bringing him up as evidence. TRAIN SPOTTED. WARNING IGNORED. EMOTIONAL DAMAGES: PERMANENT. 10/10.

  • Sungkyunkwan Scandal

    31. Sungkyunkwan Scandal

    Korean Drama - 2010, 20 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Historical setting, interesting story, romance — YES, YES, VERY NICE. But then this little group of misfits found each other and suddenly I was like, ā€œOh no… I’ve adopted another friend group.ā€ They were all so different, yet somehow together they just WORKED. Give me lovable weirdos slowly becoming each other’s people and apparently I’ll sign the adoption papers immediately.

The moment it became a favorite:
GOO YONG HA AND MOON JAE SHIN. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. Listen, the romance was GOOD. I have no complaints! But these two came strolling in and stole my attention anyway. Their dynamic?! The banter?! The loyalty?! Every time they were together I was basically sitting there like, ā€œYes, yes, main plot. We’ll get back to you. WHAT ARE THESE TWO DOING?ā€

    The damage done:
I became ridiculously invested in the whole group. Their friendship had everything — teasing, loyalty, chaos, and that quiet ā€œI’ve got youā€ underneath it all. They genuinely felt like people who had become important to each other, and I LOVE that. Especially Yong Ha and Jae Shin. Put those two fools in a room doing absolutely NOTHING and apparently I’m still watching. Plot optional. Chairs provided. I’M SEATED.

    Why it’s forever:
Honestly? Give me season two with nothing but these people existing together and I’m THERE. They can solve problems. Cause problems. Eat lunch. I DON’T CARE. The friendship was that good. Sungkyunkwan Scandal gave me a romance I enjoyed, but it was the found family and bromance that stole permanent custody of my heart. ROMANCE: APPROVED. BROMANCE: STOLE THE WHOLE DAMN SHOW. 10/10.

  • TharnType

    32. TharnType

    Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
RED FLAGS. RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE. Let’s establish this immediately: neither Tharn nor Type was winning Green Flag Boi of the Year. These two were a MESS. Did that stop me? Unfortunately, the chemistry entered the room before common sense could file an objection. The tension was ridiculous, the emotions were intense, and I was seated like, ā€œThis is probably terrible for them… continue.ā€

The moment it became a favorite:
THARN AND TYPE WERE DOWN BAD. Not cute little ā€œI have a crushā€ down bad either. These men were emotionally compromised. The push and pull, jealousy, obsession, fighting, loving — EVERYTHING was at 100. They were exhausting individually and somehow made perfect sense together. Please keep this relationship contained between the two of you. Nobody else needs this.

    The damage done:
And THE CHEMISTRY?! This was Mew and Gulf’s first time working together and they came out swinging like somebody forgot to tell them they were new scene partners. I had QUESTIONS about plenty of things happening on my screen, but whether these two had chemistry was NEVER one of them. My eyebrows could be raised while my eyeballs remained completely invested. MULTITASKING.

    Why it’s forever:
Would I recommend Tharn and Type as relationship counselors? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Do I think they were the perfect fictional disaster for each other? YES. TharnType was messy, problematic, intense, addictive, and ridiculously romantic in its own chaotic way. Sometimes fiction gives me a green flag. Sometimes it hands me two red flags with nuclear chemistry and apparently I say, ā€œFine. Keep them together for public safety.ā€ 10/10.

  • The Edge of Horizon

    33. The Edge of Horizon

    Thai Drama - 2026, 11 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
I came for a historical Thai BL and somehow ended up emotionally invested in class, duty, family, monarchy, social change, AND two men desperately trying to love each other through all of it. Tin and Phob pulled me straight into their world. And then there was ONGSA. I already knew that man was beautiful, but apparently I had been UNDERREACTING. ā€œHe’s gorgeousā€ became Mona Lisa comparisons, Statue of David comparisons, and me finally understanding why Zeus kept snatching beautiful humans up to Olympus. I GET IT NOW, ZEUS.

The moment it became a favorite:
I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHEN IT HAPPENED. One day I was watching normally. The next, Saturday had become ONGSA DAY. I loved Phob while simultaneously fighting with that man like his decisions affected my taxes. Meanwhile Tin would appear and I’d forget the argument because LOOK AT HIM. Somewhere between the yearning, secret house, rings, separation, and weekly emotional warfare, this drama moved into my brain and changed the locks.

    The damage done:
I CRIED. REPEATEDLY. This drama had me rooting for people, fighting people, forgiving people, and preparing legal action against writer. By the finale, I was ready to exile it to the prestigious ā€œ10/10, amazing, NEVER TOUCHING THIS AGAIN because you hurt meā€ department. The emotional whiplash was CRIMINAL. I had suffered enough. WHERE WAS MY COMPENSATION?!

    Why it’s forever:
AND THEN THE WRITER PAID MY DAMAGES. After all that pain, turbulence, and me threatening everybody involved, the story STUCK THE LANDING. I went into that finale terrified I’d leave heartbroken and instead finished crying for an entirely different reason — I WAS HAPPY. Every tear suddenly felt worth it. No deliberation required. SATURDAYS: HIJACKED. ONGSA: MY MONA LISA. EMOTIONAL DAMAGES: PAID IN FULL. WELCOME TO THE KINGDOM OF TENS. NO APPEALS. 10/10.

  • The Greatest Love

    34. The Greatest Love

    Korean Drama - 2011, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
PURE RANDOMNESS. I didn’t know the cast. The plot sounded fine, I guess. Expectations? Somewhere around the FLOOR. I basically pressed play because ā€œeh, why not?ā€ And then this supposedly average little drama had the AUDACITY to be fantastic?! Excuse me, where were you hiding?! I thought I picked up a random pebble and somehow came home with a DIAMOND.

The moment it became a favorite:
THE ROMANCE GOT ME. I expected cute. Maybe enjoyable. Instead, I was being swept off my feet like I had personally entered the relationship. The writing knew exactly when to make me laugh, when to make me swoon, and when to come for my feelings. At some point I realized, ā€œWait… why is this drama doing EVERYTHING RIGHT?!ā€ My little random pick was showing off now.

    The damage done:
THE CHEMISTRY WAS DRIPPING OFF THE SCREEN. Fun, romantic, intense, effortless — I ate it UP. The characters had layers, the cast was fantastic, and then there was the male lead. Sir. Where did this unexpected DADDY ENERGY come from?! I didn’t even know this man when I pressed play and suddenly my eyeballs had developed a personal interest in his career. SURPRISE INSPECTION: PASSED.

    Why it’s forever:
The Greatest Love is exactly why I occasionally let Random Drama Rouletteā„¢ make decisions for me. No expectations. No familiar cast. No hype carrying it. This drama had to win me over ALL BY ITSELF — and it DID. Beautiful romance, hilarious moments, fantastic chemistry, lovable characters, and apparently one unexpected Daddy Boi. EXPECTATIONS: ZERO. CHEMISTRY: ILLEGAL. RANDOM PICK: JACKPOT. 10/10.

  • The Untamed

    35. The Untamed

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
I genuinely don’t know how to explain what The Untamed did to me. This wasn’t just my favorite drama of 2019. THIS DRAMA OWNED 2019. My brain? Occupied. My emotions? Repossessed. My free time? DONATED. I knew early that something had gone terribly wrong because I wasn’t simply watching anymore. I LIVED THERE.

The moment it became a favorite:
WANGXIAN. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. China could censor the romance out of the adaptation, but my eyeballs still had functioning vision. Call the screen version ā€œbromanceā€ all you want — I KNOW WHAT I EXPERIENCED. The devotion?! The longing?! The sacrifices?! These men didn’t need kisses to have me screaming. Lan Wangji basically spent the drama looking at Wei Wuxian like that man personally hung the moon. SIR, YOUR FACE IS SNITCHING.

    The damage done:
THE TRENCHES. This drama put me THROUGH THEM. Love, loss, betrayal, sacrifice, loyalty — apparently peace was never on the schedule. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo became Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji for me. And WEN NING?! MY BABY. Protect him immediately. Meanwhile Meng Yao had me mentally preparing a launch trajectory directly into the SUN. Everybody was getting an emotion out of me. NOBODY CLOCKED OUT.

    Why it’s forever:
The Untamed proved you could censor the obvious and STILL fail to hide the emotional core that made WangXian hit me so hard. The source material gave me the context; the drama gave me the longing, devotion, and chemistry — and my imagination handled the paperwork. Years later, I still remember how completely this story consumed me. 2019: HIJACKED. CENSORSHIP: NICE TRY. WANGXIAN: PERMANENT. 10/10.

  • Top Form

    36. Top Form

    Thai Drama - 2025, 11 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
AKIN. That’s it. Review over. I genuinely don’t remember ever being this obsessed with a male lead. This man appeared and my brain immediately became AJSHDHDKSKSJSJ?! And the PLOT TWIST?! I’m usually a seme girlie! Somehow this beautiful UKE came in, snatched my attention, and said, ā€œYou belong to ME now.ā€ Apparently I did. No appeal filed.

The moment it became a favorite:
When I realized Akin had completely hijacked my brain. Every scene: LOOK AT MY BABY. And thank GOD they changed the toxic source material because Jin hurting Akin?! Absolutely not. RETURN TO SENDER. Drama Jin adored that man, and THAT’S what I wanted. His devotion was so soft and sincere that I could comfortably hand him custody of my baby. JIN, YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED. TAKE CARE OF HIM.

    The damage done:
THE CHEMISTRY. These two were one electrical malfunction away from setting my computer on fire. I loved them together — the romance, devotion, tension, EVERYTHING. And then came THE HONEY SCENE. I’m sorry, honey was an innocent household product before Top Form. NOW?! I’ve seen things. Winnie the Pooh and I are no longer discussing the same substance. FAN. ME. IMMEDIATELY.

    Why it’s forever:
Top Form gave me a romance I adored and an uke who somehow overthrew my entire usual bias system. Knowing these two leads won’t act together again makes this drama bittersweet now, but it also makes what we got feel even more precious. Akin remains permanently lodged in my heart, Jin treated my baby RIGHT, and honey has been ruined indefinitely. SEME BIAS: DEFEATED. AKIN: VICTORIOUS. COMPUTER: OVERHEATED. 10/10.

  • You're Beautiful

    37. You're Beautiful

    Korean Drama - 2009, 16 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
A girl disguises herself as her TWIN BROTHER so she can take his place in a BOY BAND?! I heard the premise and immediately said, ā€œOh, this is going to be foolish. PLAY.ā€ Secret identity + idol boys + one woman desperately trying not to get exposed? There was absolutely NO WAY these people were going to behave normally, and thankfully, they did not disappoint.

The moment it became a favorite:
JEREMY. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THE EVIDENCE. I loved the whole cast, but Jeremy?! MY BABY. Sweet, hilarious, adorable — I wanted to put him in my pocket immediately. Every time he appeared, my mood improved. This man could’ve been standing in the background holding a sandwich and I’d be like, ā€œLOOK AT JEREMY! ā€ Favorite status: SECURED.

    The damage done:
The romance was cute, the comedy COMEDIED, and watching her stumble through idol life while pretending to be her brother was exactly the kind of nonsense I signed up for. Every near-discovery had me like, ā€œGIRL, GET YOUR STORY TOGETHER BEFORE SOMEBODY CHECKS THE FAMILY RECORDS.ā€ And somehow between all the foolishness, the drama still had me swooning. My fangirl department was FULLY STAFFED.

    Why it’s forever:
You’re Beautiful never needed to be serious. It understood the assignment: give me romance, lovable weirdos, ridiculous situations, and enough idol chaos to keep me entertained. Sometimes I want emotional devastation. Sometimes I want a woman infiltrating a boy band while I adopt Jeremy from my couch. IDENTITY: QUESTIONABLE. LOGIC: ON VACATION. JEREMY: MINE. 10/10.

  • You're My Pet

    38. You're My Pet

    Japanese Drama - 2003, 10 episodes

    10

    What pulled me in:
Let’s establish the truth: MATSUMOTO JUN GOT ME HERE. Because somebody said, ā€œWoman hires grown man to be her PET,ā€ and my eyebrows immediately relocated to my hairline. EXCUSE ME?! I would’ve kept scrolling, but there was Jun looking adorable, so apparently I said, ā€œFine. Explain yourselves.ā€ I came for my man. The questionable life choices were complimentary.

The moment it became a favorite:
Then somewhere between ā€œMa’am, why do you have a human pet?ā€ and me wanting to put Momo in MY house, this ridiculous drama got DEEP?! These weren’t just two weirdos making bizarre domestic arrangements. They were two lost people creating a safe little world where neither had to perform for everybody else. WAIT. WHO AUTHORIZED EMOTIONAL DEPTH?!

    The damage done:
Suddenly Human Pet Dramaā„¢ was teaching me LIFE LESSONS. It basically said, ā€œWho decided your life has to look like everybody else’s?ā€ Career checklist? Relationship checklist? Society’s little cookie-cutter box? RETURN TO SENDER. I’ve always marched to my own beat, so that hit me HARD. I came looking for Jun and left reconsidering the rules people blindly follow. RUDE. I DIDN’T REQUEST PERSONAL GROWTH.

    Why it’s forever:
And yes, for approximately five minutes I wanted my own human pet. LORD JESUS, LET ME CLARIFY. I wanted MOMO. Specifically Jun-shaped Momo. But underneath all the adorable weirdness, You’re My Pet gave me something I kept: your life belongs to you. It doesn’t need to make sense to everybody else. Live it your way. CAME FOR JUN. STAYED FOR THE EXISTENTIAL CRISIS. 10/10.
