  • Blood

    1. Blood

    Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes

    7.0

A unique twist on the vampire genre. The lead couple had great chemistry, but the ending really ruined it for me. There was no closure; it was like completely starting over from the beginning.

  • Can You Hear My Heart

    2. Can You Hear My Heart

    Korean Drama - 2011, 30 episodes

    7.0

An emotional rollercoaster of a drama. The overall plot is predictable and straightforward, with the relationships between the characters and their childhood traumas being the main focus. The characters are all selfish and immature but improve just enough to be likable.

  • Love Cuisine

    3. Love Cuisine

    Taiwanese Drama - 2015, 22 episodes

    7.0

I enjoyed watching this drama, but I really disliked the FL. Her constant whining and complaining got old very quickly and she made dumb, impulsive decisions because she’s almost as immature as her high school students. The ML was dreamy boyfriend goals, though, and their students were just too cute.

  • Mary Stayed Out All Night

    4. Mary Stayed Out All Night

    Korean Drama - 2010, 16 episodes

    5.0

This was one of the first Korean dramas I ever watched.

The leads are immature and selfish because of their unstable childhoods, but they do gradually improve. Somewhat. By the end, they're still pretty annoying. Their parents, however, are infuriating. They've traumatized and manipulated their kids to the point that they don't even know what a healthy relationship looks like, but they still have power because their kids are desperate for their attention.

It's a great example of the effects of bad parenting, but it did test my nerves at times.

  • The Perfect Match

    5. The Perfect Match

    Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 22 episodes

    7.5

The plot and romance were...okay. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. The one thing that kept me watching was the friendship between the ML and his best friend.

  • 9 Seconds: Eternal Time

    6. 9 Seconds: Eternal Time

    Korean Drama - 2015, 7 episodes

    8.0

It started out beautifully, but the last episode was bittersweet and disappointing. The cinematography was gorgeous, the music was great, and the acting was spot-on...but that ending! I loved both the leads, especially the charming ML, and their cute relationship...BUT THAT ENDING!

  • The Happy Loner

    7. The Happy Loner

    Korean Special - 2017, 2 episodes

    9.0

A relationship between the traumatized children of divorced parents who have hidden behind their own insecurities for years and must be forced to see their own bad habits. The ML was hilarious and his acting was fantastic. The FL wasn't bad, but she was very stiff and unemotional. I didn't really feel much of a connection with her.

  • Legend of Yun Xi

    8. Legend of Yun Xi

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 48 episodes

    6.0

My first wuxia! "Legend of Yun Xi" is very slow-paced and I skipped all the dramatic goings-on in the palace, but I loved the main couple. I was disappointed that all their scenes together were very short while the unnecessary family drama involving the king lasted forever. The FL was independent and held her own as a genius poison expert, while the ML hid his personality behind his need for revenge. Every now and then, though, we’d see his gorgeous smile.

In the last few episodes, the show began falling apart. Everyone's sanity began to crumble, most of them were killed off, too much miscommunication, and the ending was just beyond stupid. I didn't feel any real closure and it left so many questions unanswered.

  • Daytime Shooting Star

    9. Daytime Shooting Star

    Japanese Movie - 2017

    9.0

This movie was very refreshing. The female lead deals with her broken heart very maturely and doesn't let it control her life. There's very little unnecessary drama, her male classmate is a gentleman with her best interests at heart, and I think the ending was almost perfect - overall, a very good movie, but one that you'll probably be satisfied with only watching once.

  • Only Side by Side with You

    10. Only Side by Side with You

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 40 episodes

    6.0

"Only Side by Side With You" is a confusing and overly complicated mix of betrayal, lies, manipulation, guilt, scheming, and broken relationships. At the end of each episode, I was exhausted from trying to interpret each character's agenda, what they were really thinking and feeling, and how everyone's secrets seemed to somehow be conveniently connected. All the main characters had tragic backstories that added to the overall dark theme, but I think most of it could've been cut out without affecting the plot.

I really liked the characters, though. They were strong, independent, and motivated. They didn't cry and throw temper tantrums in every episode. When they encountered a problem, they fought back without question. It was a refreshing change after watching so many Asian dramas with baby-faced kids who make immature, stupid decisions throughout the drama.

  • Love Me If You Dare

    11. Love Me If You Dare

    Chinese Drama - 2015, 24 episodes

    8.0

Very intense, never a dull moment. It was actually pretty exhausting to watch. The romantic relationship between the leads felt too forced - I think they would've been better as friends. There were also many inconsistencies, such as the Americans' odd accents,  Simon speaking to them in Chinese even though he's fluent in English, and everyone miraculously understanding each other.

I also think they made Simon too dramatically intelligent and perfect. He had a supernatural vibe to him (like a vampire or something) and acted more like a special forces soldier than a professor.

  • My Dear Desperado

    12. My Dear Desperado

    Korean Movie - 2010

    7.0

A quick and simple movie about a middle-aged gangster who threw his life away for people who never actually cared about him and a young woman fresh out of college. The ML is rough on the outside, but he's actually a softie and it was pretty fun watching him bicker with the FL.

  • Kiss Me, Kill Me

    13. Kiss Me, Kill Me

    Korean Movie - 2009

    7.0

Very strange, but likable. The comedy style isn't laugh-out-loud-hilarious, but I definitely chuckled a few times because of the awkward situations the characters are thrown into. I would love to see the BTS; it must've been difficult for the actors to keep a straight face.

"Kiss Me, Kill Me" is a weird movie, but a well-written, enjoyabe weird.

  • Age of Youth

    14. Age of Youth

    Korean Drama - 2016, 12 episodes

    9.0

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of this drama.  It doesn't have any overused clichés - it was actually a unique story that kept my interest from start to finish. Every episode was suspenseful, bittersweet, and emotional. The actresses (and actors) played their roles perfectly. Honestly one of the most well-written and intense dramas I've ever watched.

Personally, I'm not a fan of long heart-to-heart conversations and so the slow, casual pacing was boring at times.

  • Age of Youth Season 2

    15. Age of Youth Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2017, 14 episodes

    4.0

Very disappointing sequel. I sped through it because their normal, everyday problems had taken a turn for the dramatic and unrealistic. Plus, I lost interest in the old characters, who were still very immature and selfish. The ending left many questions unanswered. The new Eun Jae was also totally unlikable - bratty, constantly complaining, and her creepy obsession with her ex-boyfriend overshadowed everything else.

  • Kahogo no Kahoko

    16. Kahogo no Kahoko

    Japanese Drama - 2017, 10 episodes

    7.5

A beautiful story about a family supporting each other during rough times. Kahoko is the most adorable human being I have ever laid eyes on and I love her to death! I couldn't help rooting for her as she grew from a sheltered kid into a strong woman. She and Hajime are definitely an OTP, although I don't think his character got enough screentime.

Bad points: The lovey-dovey conversations with her family overshadowed everything else and sometimes dragged on for way too long. Kahoko's mother is selfish, stubborn, and treats her husband like a sperm donor who's obligated to support her financially.

  • This Is Not What I Expected

    17. This Is Not What I Expected

    Chinese Movie - 2017

    9.0

A cliche story that's bolstered by hilarious characters and beautiful scenery, this movie was definitely named correctly. It's nothing groundbreaking - just a cute, silly movie to pass the time - but I still found myself totally absorbed and laughing at all the shenanigans. The actors did an amazing job of transforming stereotypical characters into unique personalities that stole the show.

  • Poison Berry in My Brain

    18. Poison Berry in My Brain

    Japanese Movie - 2015

    7.0

This movie starts out as your typical silly rom-com, but it's actually a masterfully written and clever slice-of-life movie. The idea of her personality being split into different people, who argue with each other about her decisions, is something I've never seen before and I was really impressed with all the subtle details.

My only qualms are that it's a bit long at two hours and that I didn't really like either of the men she was choosing from. One is selfish and has a history of unhealthy relationships and the other is a self-pitying, woe-is-me nerd. I think the FL deserves much better.

  • Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo

    19. Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo

    Japanese Drama - 2013, 16 episodes

    9.0

Of all the versions I've watched, this one is my favorite. The FL is still immature and goofy, but she has moments of maturity that really make her a likable character. I also liked how the actors used subtle facial expressions to show their character's emotions instead of having too much internal dialogue and long rants. The ending was too abrupt and left many things unsolved and unsaid, though. I would've liked at least one other episode to really wrap it up.

  • Be Melodramatic

    20. Be Melodramatic

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    6.0

I watched this drama because I was curious about the mixed reviews. On the one hand, it's a nice, wholesome show with funny, unique characters. On the other hand, calling it slow-paced would be the understatement of the century. If it weren't for all the philosophical rants that were annoyingly self-righteous, I probably would've enjoyed it more and wouldn't have clicked the skip button so many times. Very predictable storyline. It was the characters who made the show.

  • You Are My Vampire

    21. You Are My Vampire

    Korean Movie - 2014

    5.0

"You Are My Vampire" is such a bizarre movie -- a mixture of innuendoes, eccentric characters, and a variety of camera angles. It's pretty weird and not all that well-written, but I think that's why I enjoyed it. Even the ML's horrible, cringy acting was somehow endearing.

  • Oh! My Sweet Liar!

    22. Oh! My Sweet Liar!

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 29 episodes

    6.0

A typical hate-to-love romance with a drawn-out storyline and side characters that have more screentime than the main couple. Overall, it was cute and uncomplicated, but I started getting bored around the halfway point. I think if it was 5 or 6 episodes shorter, it would've been much better.

I absolutely loved the sassy ML and his heartwarming family. The FL was tolerable, but her immaturity really tested my patience at times.

  • My Love Story!!

    23. My Love Story!!

    Japanese Movie - 2015

    6.0

Story-wise, this movie is a mess. No one bothers to tell the ML that the FL is interested in him, so he spends the majority of the movie feeling depressed. However, the ML’s character is hilarious and his relationship with the equally adorable FL was fun to watch. In other words, this is a cutesy movie without a serious plot.

  • Drama Special Season 7: Pinocchio's Nose

    24. Drama Special Season 7: Pinocchio's Nose

    Korean Special - 2016, 1 episode

    9.0

For just an hour-long special, I was impressed with how a complex, emotional story was squeezed into a such a short timeframe without neglecting all the raw emotions involved in a murder case. The acting was excellent and the overall pace of the story kept my interest from start to finish.
