Suzuki graduated from the Nikkatsu Academy of Arts (日活芸術学院) in 1979. He worked as an assistant director at production companies such as Telepack (テレパック) and Kyodo Television (共同テレビジョン), where he worked under directors Wakamatsu Setsuro (若松節朗) and Fukumoto Yoshito (福本義人). In December 1994, he moved to Fuji Television. He made his directorial debut in 1999 with the film "Great Teacher Onizuka." In April 2018, he was promoted from Head of the First Production Room to General Director.
