In 2011, he enrolled in the Continuing Education Division at Hsing Wu University, where he studied for seven years without graduating. This situation led to speculation that he might be using his studies to avoid military service. The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of China also cited him for allegedly delaying his enlistment under the guise of continuing education, which was seen as undermining the fairness of the military service system.
In December 2013, he received a military service exemption due to a spinal condition diagnosed as spondylolysis.
On June 3, 2017, he announced on Facebook that he had married and that his eldest daughter, Mei Bao, was born in February in the United States. His wife is not a public figure. They welcomed their second daughter in August 2020.
